The U.S. Navy prepared for decades to potentially fight the Soviet Union, then later Russia and China, on the world's waterways. But instead of a global power, the Navy finds itself locked in combat with a shadowy, Iran-backed rebel group based in Yemen.

"I don't think people really understand just kind of how deadly serious it is what we're doing and how under threat the Galactic Empire continues to be," Cmdr. Cassio Tagge of the Death Star told the AP on a visit to his moon-sized battle station currently cruising away from the (former) Alderaanian planetary system.

"We only have to get it wrong once," he said. "The Rebels just have to get one through."

What shall the poor, innocent Galactic Empire do???

The navy didn't take Grenada. That was Clint and Mario van Peebles.

We have to know where every single one of the rockets are launched from. What's the problem? Collateral damage? That's why we don't win wars anymore. WW2 was the last one. The fire bombings of Dresden and Tokyo couldn't occur today, let alone Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

We have to know where every single one of the rockets are launched from.

Probably not. The launchers are mobile and the targeting radars are tucked in the mountains all over the place.

Yeah there is nothing like putting an "Expert on Russia" in charge of ME operations. The leather-booted ------- in front of the troops is a thing of legend.

Mobile launchers?

You're just another jackass who thinks that there's something easy about war.

Now that you've made the US Navy another MAGA campaign issue, why don't you burn it to the ground along with everything else?

Jackass.

#10 | POSTED BY WILLOWBY

You're arguing to bring them back. Not a question; a statement.

Simple brutality doesn't win wars. Hate to break that to you.

But you do illustrate the MAGA approach to EVERYTHING. Stomp on it, scream at it, threaten it, burn it.

What the Hell happens in your homes at night once the doors are locked?

Brutality is the definition of war.

The most brutal wins.

You live in a fantasy land.

WW2 showed only extreme, complex brutality can force the collapse of fanatical political organizations.

Nazis didn't fold until Russians were destroying Berlin. Read the civilian primary sources, because that's the price of victory.

This is also why the US hasn't won a war in the GWOT. People like zed imagine war can be sanitized.

It's too soft.

The CCP won't have this problem.

Thousands of years of pent up frustration will be unleashed.

What Yemen is and has always been is a stalemate. The Houthi can't come out of Yemen and attack the House of Saud. The Saudis tried to invade Yemen, it went very poorly, they are not a competent military force and can't be one because their culture is incompatible with the needs of modern warfare. There is currently no solution other than anti-missile escort duty.

and the US occupying 33,000 square miles of mountains? We don't have sufficient troop per square mile density required for that occupation.

For as much as we celebrate D-Day, it's 100 miles from Portsmouth to Omaha Beach. In the Pacific theater it was 6000 miles from LA to the Solomons.

Yet we "won" the Cold War

Btw how did extreme complex brutality work out for nazi germany?

#32 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-06-17 09:47 AM | Reply

We're still fighting the Cold War in Ukraine. Afghanistan 2.0.

For Germany and Japan it went great until they opened separate 2 front wars their economies couldn't sustain. Germany's inability to take violence across the channel into UK is why they never closed that front out.

it worked extremely well as long as ah listened to his generals ... didn't read his history and went into Russia.
if he'd stayed in/concentrated on Europe and GB who knows where we'd be today
War only has, and rightly so, one goal ...to win

You think "Around the clock saturation bombing and low level strafing" the mountains of Yemen is going to produce a victory?

You'd be losing a lot of low level strafers, for one thing. How many scud launchers did they take out in Desert Storm? I think it was none.

By "we" you mean boomers.

We're still fighting the Cold War in Ukraine. Afghanistan 2.0.

And the next 2 generations behind the boomers went and "lost" it again. Because it sure doesn't look like we are winning atm. And it's really hard to tell who will be the ultimate "winner" in the end.

Korea and Vietnam Navy vets might disagree. My dad was on the Essex when a fighter crashed during landing, two bulkheads from where he was manning a targeting radar.
I bet the guys on the Pueblo thought things were pretty intense for awhile.
Brown Navy in Vietnam had balls of steel and the blue Navy launched thousands of strikes.
