Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, July 04, 2024

A Washington Post-George Mason University poll released this week contains good news and bad news for the Biden campaign. First, it shows that Biden has made substantial progress in convincing voters that democracy is indeed on the ballot. The survey of voters in swing states found that 61 percent say "threats to democracy" are extremely important to them. Unfortunately for Biden, this same poll shows he is failing to persuade people that voting for him is the best way to preserve and/or improve democracy. Forty-four percent of surveyed voters in those states say that they believe Trump is best equipped to deal with threats to democracy, compared with only 33 percent who favor Biden to do so. The news gets worse for Biden if we focus just on "undecided" voters

The point of the Opinion piece is that Biden is right, Trump is an enemy of democracy, but Biden should talk more about... democracy.

Something about persecuting political opponens (not just Trump, pro lifers, whistle blowers, parents, Catholics, etc), ignoring the courts when smacked down, rewriting laws like Title IX in a way that is contrary to how they were written ... .it makes people think the current administration is the bigger threat.

Do you still have phone spelling dementia?

Trump was convicted by a Jury of his peers under laws that have been used 10k times in that state alone.

And his other upcoming trials? All completely justified; prosecutors wouldn't be doing their jobs had any one of these cases not been brought.

The Trump Persecution Complex is just another Trump Product sole to nave buyers, just like his $1000 dollar flags and his election was rigged lies.

Not just you. The Trump magats seriously believe that fascism is "democracy" because "democracy" to them means they get all they want and fkkk everyone else. Jeff believes that 100%.

All this poll shows is that MAGATS all believe that lie.

It found that "A strong majority of voters (68 percent) ... are not happy with the way democracy works in our country. While one would expect Republicans (79 percent) and Independents (73 percent) to be unhappy, given their lack of power in the White House and Congress, even most Democrats (56 percent) report being unhappy with the way democracy is working."

I am extremely displeased with the way "democracy" is working here. Look at what the conniving scum McConnell and Trump have done to our nation. Look at what the most corrupt SCOTUS, the Sharia Six, the "pay me later, so it's just a gratuity" laughingstock of right-wing "justices" have done.

This republic is sick. It's poisoned by Trump and the GOP. It is dying because of them. And now they point at it and say it's everyone else's fault when it's their actions that are indisputably responsible.

I don't see how, it'll take constitutional amendments to fix the immunity and dobbs and a constitutional amendment is essentially dead in the water.

MAYBE, possibly a few generations down the road we can restore the SC to sanity and possibly undo this stuff but i don't see it happening for a LONG time.

BTW the Project 2025 is well underway in case people haven't noticed-the SC's power grab and many of the recent decisions are paving the way for the radical, fringe, minority rule that they want.

#49 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-07-04 08:49 PM | Reply

Well, you COULD strike you as liking mature women

OR

You could listen to what he says

www.theguardian.com

www.vox.com

After watching a youth choir sing carols, Trump asked two of the girls how old they were. When they said they were 14, Trump, who again was 46 at the time, said, "Wow! Just think " in a couple of years, I'll be dating you."

When Trump was asked whether Tiffany looked more like him or Trump's then-wife Marla Maples, he said Marla, and added that Tiffany was "a really beautiful baby." But the first specific feature Trump mentioned wasn't anything in her face " it was her legs.

"She's got Marla's legs. We don't know whether or not she's got this part yet," Trump said, miming a pair of breasts over his own chest, "but time will tell."

Now, somebody who a lot of people don't give credit to but is in actuality very beautiful is Paris Hilton. I've known Paris Hilton from the time she's 12, her parents are friends of mine, and the first time I saw her she walked into the room and I said, Who the hell is that?' At 12, I wasn't interested ... but she was beautiful.

Trump has said more than once that if his daughter Ivanka weren't his daughter, he might be dating her. He's made repeated comments on Ivanka's physical and sexual appeal (Deadspin has a good rundown of those), and he didn't bat an eye when Howard Stern called her a "piece of ass" on air.

Something tells me you will ignore the facts

In advance of the 2020 general election, Mississippi's Republican trifecta enacted a GOP-sponsored law allowing mail-in ballots postmarked on or before Election Day to be counted for up to five days after the election.

Why are Republican suing over a law that THEY passed?

Truth,

Absentees ballots have always been a strange issue counting them.

Why the issue didn't matter was because there were relatively few.

2020 mail-in ballots were much larger numbers so the same issue was compounded.

Go back to pre-covid voting where there were fewer problems.

Securing Utah's Elections

... Elections in Utah are transparent and secure. In the links below, you will find how these four topics come together create a complete picture of election security. Learn what safeguards are already in place in areas like voter registration, voting equipment, ballot processing, and individual voter responsibilities. ...

Table 18: States With Mostly-Mail Elections
www.ncsl.org

...In mostly-mail elections, all registered voters are sent a ballot in the mail. The voter marks the ballot, puts it in a secrecy envelope or sleeve and then into a separate mailing envelope, signs an affidavit on the exterior of the mailing envelope and returns the package via mail or by dropping it off.

Ballots are mailed out well ahead of Election Day, and thus voters have an "election period," not just a single day, to vote. Mostly-mail elections can be thought of as absentee voting for everyone. This system is also referred to as "vote by mail."

Eight states"California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont and Washington and the District of Columbia -- allow all elections to be conducted entirely by mail. ...

OK, so what is your concern with mail-in ballots again?

And, maybe, you may want to talk with the election officials of the states noted above regarding that opinion.

Please let us all know how that conversation turns out.

thx.

Dan,

8 out of 51....it that what you said?

I've said repeatedly it was the wide scale usage in 2020.

Of the states you mentioned only one had close election results.

As I said, absentee ballots have always had problems and the wide scale usage of mail-in ballots across the entire country compounded the problem.

Mail-in ballots become a more serious when elections results are close for a state.

The whole issue of legititmacy (not just simply counting them) becomes a factor.

That can anger voters and they might even rally at the White House if they suspect the election was unfair and people harvested votes that might have tilted the election.

Republicans who lose an election need something to blame. Bill Johnson is no exception.

There's not a single report of any fraud, mail-in, in person or illegal immigrants, that would change the outcome of the election.

And, in case he's forgotten, the few cases of fraud were all committed by Republicans.

Not long ago, the REAL fraud was committed by Republican appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy when he sent people round to dismantle sorting machines. Who, incidentally, is NOW under a court order to never try to pull a stunt like that again . . EVER!

Because there's a finality to truth. And life moves on.

Lies do the exact opposite. Lies are used to create derision and destroy truth.

One small example is to look at the paid trolls who inhabit this site.

Another big historic example is how a whole country was Nazified. It was all lies and scapegoating.

Very similar to what is happening in America right now. All lies being force-fed to a gullible public by a nazified political party that uses scapegoating.

Unfortunately, it works. Hitler was elected by a large margin which resulted in WWII and the eventual destruction of the country who made the mistake of electing a monster control freak who was half-crazed with an insatiable need for power.

Sound familiar? Is history repeating itself? Is America going to make the same sad mistake Germany made? Is Trump going to be America's Hitler? Is Trump going to join Russia and drag America into WWIII.

If you are interested in widening your perspective there are a number of articles that go into detail about chain of custody.

There are other questions about the 2020 election such as ballot harvesting. Some states have revised election laws because they recognized the problem in 2020.

My whole point is I hope the 2024 election doesn't have all the questions 2020 did.

We need a clear winner and loser this election.

Who won has never been my focus. I've never suggested Trump actually won.

It's public perception. We need to have confidence in the system as a country.

It took court cases and extensive recounts to figure this out which is unacceptable.

We need a clear winner and preferable on election day.

" If you are interested in widening your perspective there are a number of articles that go into detail about chain of custody."

None of them back your theories. And serial numbers with watermarks help enormously.

If your theories were true, folks will be coming out of the woodwork by the thousands. Instead it's almost 4 years later, and not a soul has come forward claiming they lived your theory.

You keep claiming there are major problems, yet there are a half-dozen entities with over a quarter century of dealing with mail in ballots, while claiming no major problems.

Theories without proof are wishes.

For example, mailing your family's ballots after they've given you permission, isn't against the law.

But if you're really talking about ballot harvesting, there would be dozens of folks (at least) coming forward with tails about their ballot being taken by someone else, and their fear of vote was registered against their wishes.

Instead, four years later and (checks notes ... ) Zero have come forward.

Redial,

"Bill manages accounting software"

My experience is setting up networked accounting systems from ground up since the 90s back when integrated accounting software was in its infancy.

I obtained my MCSE 25 years ago and have a wide range of experience. I don't simply manage.

The human factor is always the wild card. I can setup computer systems that run well and create reliable information.

It's the people using it that create a lot of the errors. Some dishonesty but mostly negligence or careless mistakes.

You build in processes to cross check numbers.

I'm no expert but if you're good enough (and I'm good) you develop an attitude for finding problems.

The 2020 election barely squeaked by deciding who won.

That's not good enough.

Sorry if people don't see it.

" You build in processes to cross check numbers."

Yet you are pretending the voting process has no such crosschecks or balances; nothing could be further from the truth. There are serialized numbers and watermarks, to name just a few of the safety aspects. There's also a system for detecting "returned" ballots which were never requested.

Anyone who was actually trying to game the system might be able to get in a vote or two, but anything at scale defeats itself. There is no way a large scale operation trying to fill in for non-voters is going to have a 100% success rate. Meanwhile, 99.9% success will get you tossed in jail for the rest of your life, after hundreds if not thousands of paper trails lead right back to YOU.

In Bill's world, LOTS of people had their mail-in ballots taken from them, but not a single person has come forward, even in the wake of a contentious election.

After four years, and ZERO backing for the BS theory, you'd think a sensible person would jettison the embarrassment. But not Bill!

It takes someone either woefully ignorant, or woefully lacking in morals, to amplify the lies. Especially after four years, and zero proof.

Generic Democrat? Does he/she have a social security number?

You fail to take into consideration the damage that a month or 2 of intra party fighting will do, the incredible risk it is to put someone up for nomination who hasn't been thoroughly vetted, nor the challenge of getting a bunch of ignorant deadheaded voters to even know who the new candidate is, nor the lack of funding that candidate will have to begin with. Did 2016 not teach you ANYTHING?

It is too late for remorse, it is time to take the fight to an eminently beatable turd

In 1776 colonial patriots put their lives and fortunes on the line to throw off a dictatorial monarch.

In 1861 millions of American patriots put their lives on the line to save the Union and defeat slavery

In 1941 millions of American patriots put their lives on the line to defeat fascists from taking over much of the world

All that is being asked of you is to vote for the single solitary person who can stop a fascist takeover of our country.

So put away your selfishness, put your big boy pants on and realize life is hard and made up of difficult choices. Vote and support the one man who stands between you and the brownshirts
