I experienced skyrocketing prices caused by tariffs myself in the past week.

Two items I bought at Home Depot last month had more than doubled when I bought two more this week.

Trump's tariffs are about to hurt everyone's pocketbooks and put businesses out of business.

Small businesses won't survive the Trump presidency.

#1: Hi American Unity: TV mobster Tony Soprano learned that one of his capos, Vito Spatafore Sr, was gay, which to the mafia is an infamia. But Tony was reluctant to whack Vito because he was the top earner in the Soprano Crime Family. If Trumpf was a capo in a crime family and destroying business like he is with the US economy, the Dotard would be snuffed without question. Link: youtu.be

Trump's the opposite of an "earner," isn't he? He's now costing all of us more.

Americans are about to find out just how bad he is for consumers. The linked article has images of receipts with added tariff charges.

A local supermarket typically sold a dozen (imported) roses for $19.99 until this week. They were $34.99 yesterday.

The whole spectrum of goods American consumers buy are skyrocketing in price.

#4: Trumpf is an "earner" for the elites, insider traders, crypto-currency grifters, real estate moguls, and Russian oligarchs, so he hasn't been iced. But for the American people, Trumpf is certainly no "earner." I hope Republican voters are delighted to have the Idiot-in-Chief literally taking food off their tables. My wife and I sold a farm we owned a couple of years ago. We're SO glad we did. The man who farmed it for us for years (and bought it from us) is now dealing with skyrocketing prices on everything from fertilizer to parts for equipment. I feel badly for him over that, but with a sigh and a head shake because he supported the dotard and got what he voted for.

#6: 'Tis quite difficult to be sympathetic to a racist who voted for Trumpf, isn't it? The ballot your farmer cast on 5 Nov 2024 was really a bullet he fired at his own foot or head, splashing economic bloodshed everywhere.

- got what he voted for.

There's a lot of that going around. It may be harder in future to deny ever being MAGA than was to deny being a Bush Republican, after he destroyed the economy... after he killed masses of people in his war.

Just calling yourself a, 'Libertarian' instead ain't a' gonna werk this time!

Anyone with 'sticker shock' is the reason why the American economy is where it is today because they prioritized buying cheap imported crap over employing Americans. Further, the liberals crying about paying more for tariffs while also lamenting how 'there are no good jobs' are a symptom of the deeper problem with America today. Shipping manufacturing to Mexico and China devastated the US middle class. That is why college 'educated' liberals can't find jobs now and are also crying about their inability to repay their loans. The reality, those liberals CAN'T EVEN AFFORD THE CHINESE CRAP - they should simply be adjusting their lifestyles to something sustainable. As the economy fixes itself and more employment becomes available in the US, hopefully some of their 'education' will actually be put to productive use.

I will give you the alternative path the US COULD HAVE TAKEN from the 1980's until today. Rather than import low wage illegals or ship jobs to Mexico and China to pay pennies on the dollar in labor costs - companies invested in R&D and automation in the US. Thus, the jobs would have never left but our factories would have become higher tech needing a more educated workforce to design, build, and maintain them. As a result, it puts the company on a permanent track of lower overall production costs and more goods available to consumers at lower prices.

But, the US chose a different path to temporarily lower costs vs. investing in America. Trump is finally fixing that problem and the US will be way stronger in the future as a result.

A simple question for the board:

Do any of you honestly think offshoring production to China was a good idea?

If you answer no - then you are just whining that Trump was the one to fix the problem. If you answered yes - then never complain again about wages or your poor economic situation as you are supporting it continuing.

It was COMPANIES who started moving manufacturing overseas to save a buck and enrich themselves and shareholders.

Reagan ushered in the "Greed Is Good" and union busting. The two Bush tax cuts even provided tax benefits for moving factories lock, stock, and barrel.

Don't pretend it was consumers yearning for cheap goods. After major industry from textiles to steel to you-name-it started manufacturing overseas, wages started to fall as good paying American manufacturing jobs moved one by one and companies reaped the benefits. Until then, a man without a college degree could support a family.

" Do you honestly think offshoring production to China was a good idea?"

Do you honestly think offshoring production to China was a Democratic idea?

Do you honestly not know Republicans incentivized offshoring via the tax code?!?

Who do you blame?

"It was COMPANIES who started moving manufacturing overseas to save a buck and enrich themselves and shareholders."

It was companies that moved and you dipshits that bought the products that they exported back into the US because the price was cheaper. And after you did not punish the first company for doing it, all companies were forced to follow the lead.

"Reagan ushered in the "Greed Is Good" and union busting. The two Bush tax cuts even provided tax benefits for moving factories lock, stock, and barrel."

No factories left under Reagan dipshit. This was a process started by NAFTA (Clinton) and fully embraced by the Democrats as you turned your backs on union workers.

"Don't pretend it was consumers yearning for cheap goods."

If a company produces a good and no one buys it - will the company keep producing it? Nope - it was you dipshits looking for deals and laughing at the midwest as its factories closed up.

"After major industry from textiles to steel to you-name-it started manufacturing overseas, wages started to fall....Until then, a man without a college degree could support a family.

Yep - and here YOU are - fighting tooth and nail against the only man in the last 40 years that is actually trying to reverse the trend vs. telling you goobers to "learn to code".

Again - I ask because you are not explicit - was moving production to China a good thing? If not, why are you trying to continue it?

The dipshit that signed NAFTA was Clinton. After that, the whole Democrat party got on board which is why we can still find clips of Pelosi wanting tariffs on China. That was before you sold out your unions for the big donor democrats.

Also, blaming 'Republicans' from the 1990's as if it is even remotely the same party in 2025 is laughable. Those Republicans from the 90's - guys like McCain, Romney, McConnell is exactly who MAGA kicked out of the party. The corporate GOP were kicked out of the party and they are now the ones driving the Democrats.

What proof? Here YOU are fighting against Trump trying to reverse the trend and supporting open borders - 2 policies the Democrats from the 90's would have kicked you out of their party for supporting.

The dipshit that signed NAFTA was Clinton.

It was authored by a Republican Congress and regardless of whether Clinton signed it or vetoed it, it would have passed.

Regardless, who cares.

Clinton was a major shift in America's political landscape.

Democrats became republicans and republicans became Talibaptists.

NAFTA had already passed shortly before George HW Bush left office. All Clinton did was sign it.

We've been trading with China since Nixon.

There are ways to end our dependence on their exports. Going cold turkey isn't it.

In the end. None of Trump's actions have anything to do with American independence. And all to do with a major tax cut he's desperate for.

Apparently when it came to NAFTA Clinton's veto power evaporated.

#26 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-05-11 01:40 AM | Reply

1) Congress can override a presidential veto with a two-thirds vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. This allows Congress to enact a law that the President has vetoed.

2) NAFTA was signed by President George H. W. Bush on December 17, 1992, and approved by Congress on November 20, 1993. The NAFTA Implementation Act was signed into law by President William J. Clinton on December 8, 1993.

It was going to be passed because half of the senate Dems supported it. The GOP could not have overcome a veto - but they didn't need to as Clinton actively campaigned on passing it. The only one against it was Perot - and his views more or less align with MAGA today.

During this time, MAGA was either voting for Perot or holding their nose and still voting Democrat. The GOP was religious nuts and corporate GOP. It is like the modern Democrat party - religious nuts (earth worship and woke worshipers - only the religion changes) and corporate Dems. Unions and working people now are all MAGA.

There were 3 presidential candidates in 1996 and 1 surely did not sign up for any of those. The GOP supporting NAFTA is why all them have been stripped of power in the party and MAGA has taken over. The GOP was an evil party when promoting McCain and Romney and W Bush - all of whom are now seen as heroes of the Democrats.

The effects of the tariffs are starting to be noticed, if not yet in the stores, it's manifesting itself in other ways...

Our oldest son, and some of his family, drove out from Texas about 10-days or so ago, via the Palm Springs area and eventually ending up in Monterey, CA to visit their oldest daughter and family. They then stopped and spent a couple days with us and then stopped again in the desert to visit our daughter-in-law's sister. They then left on Thursday arriving back in Katy, TX, late, this past Friday evening.

They've driven this same round trip from Texas, perhaps not the Monterey portion, but at least the Irvine, via Palm Springs, route many times over the years.

Our son said that on the way out here he noticed that truck traffic was a bit less but not really that noticeable if you didn't stop and think about it. However, on their way back to Texas this past Thursday and Friday, he said it was like night and day. He had never seen the roads so empty of big rigs. He said it was almost eerie, like some scene from an apocalyptic movie. What really got his attention was that they had driven that same route, at least between Katy and Palm Springs, only a week ago and in that time, things had totally changed.
