Can you imagine the uproar if the school had brought Muslim students on a field trip to a barbeque?

No.

Beef is still king at the BBQ.

And Muslims, and Jews, are all aware that the rest of us eat pork.

It's funny how some people think pork is some kind of Muslim Kryptonite.

The parents maintain that school officials "knew or should have known of the recurring nature of the challenged field trips, the foreseeable risk that students would be exposed to religious activity and ideological messaging during those events, and the risk that student images would be captured and publicly disseminated in a religious context."

What imagined "risk" exists from First Amendment protected free exercise of Speech and Religion?

I agree that sharing pictures of the students without consent is wrong, but children don't have rights in our society so I'm not sure it matters, and when you're in a public place you have no expectation of privacy (see: Flock).

Aren't parents required to sign permission slips in order to allow their children to attend field trips?

I remember that's how it worked when I was a kid.

What???

This reminds of when conservatives were freaking out about student doing yoga. Claiming it was exposing them to a foreign religion and ideology.

Conservatives can always figure out a way to make themselves a victim.

Thanks for your ignorant opinion. Worthless as always.

When I was in elementary school we were taken on a field trip to a Hindu temple. It was awesome. The architecture was beautiful. Their statues were magnificent. It was a great field trip.

Schools can take their students anywhere they choose to.

It has to get approved by the school board and parents need to sign permission slips.

There's a word for men who are keenly interested in other men's sexual preferences. Men who ask about other men's sexual practices frequently, publicly, out loud.

That word is homosexual.

#28 | Posted by BellRinger"

Huh? Would your imaginary field trip include delivery of the Eucharist? Is that what you're referring to? Priests would have to clean that up.

We're talking about religion, not anonymous man-on-man bathroom sexual encounters. If rightwingers ever want to regain any cred here, they wouldn't load up almost every thread with this crap.

There are queer people on the Retort who don't talk about it much at all, and you folks claim genderqueer people are always trying to get in our face. Why don't you STFU for a change?

My son told me the other day (I don't believe it) that if you keep clicking on the first link of any Wikipedia page after the pronunciation, eventually you end up with "philosophy." That's like the Retort. Hang around long enough, and this will come up.

Hey, BellRinger, why don't you and Lefty and FortFisher go research that for a few weeks and get back to us? Come back with something new.

This isn't Forrest Gump. You often know what you're going to get. Playing the odds.

I had a friend who was way past legally blind. When he was a teenager going for his driver's license, the person said their job was to make sure this guy was never on American roads.

Forty years later (2010s) and his eyesight far worse, he's a movie reviewer for a prominent US city alt-weekly. He rarely sees the whole movies but uses plot summaries and characters and such to riff on the Zeitgeist. Quite popular.

We went in a field trip to a cathedral in Washington DC. Guess that's what ruined organized religion for me.

Actually it was a wonderful trip. We listened to the choir and climbed the tower and I kissed my girlfriend in the crypt and afterwards we had Japanese food (I dont remember why but I do remember it was yummy!)

And I was exposed to a different religion from the one I was raised in. Which made me realize of course at the time that there were different religions in the world and maybe I should look into them before I made up my mind about things.

Religious Indoctrination Ruined!
