Presidents and presidential candidates are famous for promises made during campaigns, inaugural addresses, state of the union speeches, etc that die because they are politically unrealistic.

For various reasons but the top of the list is that it dies in congress.

But politicians promise to distribute government money in exchange for winning elections all the time. It's the entire premise of campaign financing.

taxes
tax rebates
infrastructure
pay for teachers (didn't someone campaign to pay teachers bonuses if elected?)

What has frustrated so many here on the retort is that republicans vote against their own interest.

Which is a fair criticism and I've never challenged that assertion.

But we give passes to politicians who make unrealistic promises because they.......tried.

I've pointed out past promises were outright lies because the promiser knew it wasn't realistic.
