President also wants to ban most voting by mail in push stemming from baseless claims related to 2020 election loss
Donald Trump says he is not a dictator. Isn't he?

I am not getting Real ID or a "Voter ID".

Why not, its part of the DL in California, just send in a few more docs.
How do you fly commercial?
I have RealID, use it for flying my plane, among other things.
Most Republican voters who demand Voter ID are too stupid to ask why Republicans don't support a National Voter ID.
It is odd to me why there isn't a National Citizen ID card.
en.m.wikipedia.org
And a standardized Alien card.
#41. Dude, photo ID is required to purchase alcohol, tobacco, air travel, etc.

Which one of those is a constitutional right fundamental to the functioning of our democracy? One that can be easily subverted by putting up hurdles after the GOP/Trump SCOTUS rubberstamps the requirement?
Alabama Closes DMV Offices a Year After Voter ID Law Kicks inWho could have ever imagined it?
What Effect Will Shuttering Alabama DMV Offices Have on Black Voters?
The state has a strict voter ID law, yet more than 30 offices, many of them across the "Black Belt," are set to close.

And which part of your statement addresses my initial point, that the Feds protecting our Constitutional right to vote is very different from the Feds making it more difficult for people to exercise that Constitutional right?
Also, proper verification PROTECTS voter rights by maintaining integrity in the process.

Yes, making it more difficult for hundreds of millions of people to vote for a hypothetical risk (numbering in the thousands over the course of decades) is protecting voter rights.
I bet we could protect voter rights even more by requiring a literacy test. One that I doubt most of us could pass on our best day: allthatsinteresting.com .
Doesn't the fact that people who aren't on the voter rolls can't vote already achieve that goal?
Fact?? Sure ...
More than 23,000 Californians were registered to vote incorrectly by state DMV
www.latimes.com
Republicans are suing more election officials over voter rolls in several battleground states
www.cnn.com
The question, I have would be why does the US need voter rolls? Why do you need to register?
If you had a VOTERID of some sort (national card or citizen card or whatever) why would you need to have this whole system, which can be undermined?
You show up to vote, your card is your pass, its registered that you voted so you can't vote again... bing bang boom.
For those saying "nothings happened YET", if you have a better idea to keep something safe, the you should always do it. Do you lock your doors at night? Why have you ever been robbed/burglarized? All it would take one election to be seriously contested for the Union to fall apart, are you willing to take that risk?
Ar you actually suggesting that in person voting is LESS secure than mail in voting?

It is important to remember, however, that not everything Republicans propose is voter
suppression and not everything Democrats propose makes fraud easier.
The final report, titled "Building Confidence in U.S. Elections," stressed the
important role of elections in the nation's democracy and made a series of
recommendations, including:
1. A national system to connect state and local voter registration lists
2. Voter identification based on a universally available REAL ID card
3. Policies to improve voter access for all communities, as well as innovations like vote
centers and voter information lookup sites
Stronger efforts to combat fraud, especially in absentee voting
4. Auditable paper backups for all voting technology

No wonder democrats are such [kitties] about this.

There is zero doubt how this will turn out in every state controlled by the GOP. As noted in #56
Alabama Closes DMV Offices a Year After Voter ID Law Kicks inIf you don't realize that, then you might be a fool or a MAGAt (Venn diagram in play).
