Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, April 08, 2024

The 2024 solar eclipse will be visible across North America today. As the moon's position between the Earth and sun casts a shadow on North America, that shadow, or umbra, will travel along the surface from west to east at more than 1,500 miles per hour along the path of totality.

One of my spawn is in the link of 100 percent coverage and is excited. We'll get about 85 percent here, and I've just read about using a kitchen colander to see it.

For the hardline Trump acolytes, place your back to the sun and have the sun shine through the colander. Do not try to use the colander as binoculars.

Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth

... Here is what the Earth looks like during a solar eclipse. The shadow of the Moon can be seen darkening part of Earth. This shadow moved across the Earth at nearly 2000 kilometers per hour. ...

Medieval Astronomy from Melk Abbey
apod.nasa.gov

... Discovered by accident, this manuscript page provides graphical insight to astronomy in medieval times, before the Renaissance and the influence of Nicolaus Copernicus, Tycho de Brahe, Johannes Kepler, and Galileo. The intriguing page is from lecture notes on astronomy compiled by the monk Magister Wolfgang de Styria before the year 1490. The top panels clearly illustrate the necessary geometry for a lunar (left) and solar eclipse in the Earth-centered Ptolemaic system. ...

Same here but Texas is currently cloud-locked. I doubt we see anything besides a darkening of the sky.

Just south of Dallas. Clear view despite the weather forecast.

Was light. Got dark. Getting lighter again.

Lasted 3 minutes.

Back to work sadly.

We watched a total eclipse here in 2017. The word "awesome" is overused, but the sight of a total eclipse is truly awe inspiring.

When it casts shadows thru tree leaves ... hundreds of eclipses on the ground. Awesome.

Next on the list: going somewhere to see an annular eclipse where the "ring of fire" is seen because the moon is slightly further away from Earth.

Right after the anti Christ entered the White House in 2017, God sent an eclipse to warn us. We ignored him so he sent a plague and killed a million Americans.
The anti Christ is trying to get back in the White House and God sent an eclipse and an earthquake centered on the anti Christ s golf course.
Imagine what he's gonna do if the anti Christ wins in November.
Right, Marjorie?

LOL went to my parent's in NY because, when we planned the trip, the midwest was supposed to be cloudy and the north east partly cloudy to sunny.

Well, we ended up being cloudy while the midwest was clear. Caught about 2-3 second glimpse of totality. Otherwise, it was just really dark woods with what looked like dawn growing in the western trees. Still cool, just not what it could have been.

We had a total eclipse here in 2017. In addition to being one of the most awesome sights I've ever seen, another aspect that touched me was how everyone was on the same page and experiencing the awe and joy regardless of race, religion, economic status, political views, etc etc. I wish mankind could have more moments like that.
