Time already told.

Farmers here in Texas have seen their entire workforces leave and can't do anything.

Farmers in California report not being able to find workers and any that do get hired quit immediately when they figure out how hard the job is.

Time tells only one story. It does not tell what would have been. For instance, time doesn't tell us where our economy would be today had Reagan been blocked from blowing up the national debt in order to give tax cuts to the richest Americans.

You know of any companies that hire lazy people?

Oh, I know. You are looking to confirm the existence of lazy people, before you say a little prayer for them.

Your response is lazy. If they were lazy I doubt they'd be applying for farm jobs to begin with. More likely is that they have other options. Average farm wages in the US are about the same as average retail wages. At the same time, Farms usually offer fewer benefits, less job security and more dangerous working conditions.

Undocumented migrants take the jobs because their options for employment are limited.

I expect US Farms would need to raise average wages to about $30/hour if they expect to hire and retain documented labor. They'd likely still have a high degree of turnover at that level but they'd find people who are willing to do the dirty, outdoor jobs for the small premium they'd be paying over other "unskilled" jobs.

There is no correlation between what is right and America's economy. By spending money on the homeless, we are doing what's right but it hurts our economy...as just one glaring example. There are a huge number of things we spend on that hurt our economy but is the right thing to do. Trying to make that causal link is just bias garbage that hurts America way more than removing illegals by any objective metric.

Also, so many liberals have already gone nuts over the fact that Biden deported way more migrants in the same amount of time than Trump has. So, if jobs were really hurting, this would have all already happened and have been a problem for several years. So, stop lying about all those farmers you "know" or have "heard" are suffering...it's not true. It wasn't true under Biden and it's not true under Trump. And our export numbers prove there isn't a huge mass of migrants leaving either so you can't use that as an excuse.

The reality is that Trump's actions have caused very trivial drops in migrant numbers and even liberal outlets have reported that. Just because it doesn't meet your narrative isn't a reason to make up things or try to use it as context to spread hate. As usual, all it does is make you look worse and causes America to suffer.

I did quite a bit of farm work when I was in my teens and early twenties (a long time ago). It might be kinda fun to watch an insurance agent attempt to do that work, even for an hour.

Profound. economic. consequences.

Sure.

Because there aren't any MIT grads that can figure out how to replace immigrant labor with a machine.

Or, there is no government mechanism to allow non-citizens to come in and do work that no one else is willing to do.

It seems to me there is a technical answer, and a policy answer. Either is probably OK.

Because there aren't any MIT grads that can figure out how to replace immigrant labor with a machine.

Farmers have millions sitting around to spend on MIT boy's "machine", or are you expecting them to borrow from the government to buy this "machine" to replace the humans who had been doing the job perfectly well without incident until Trump vilified them.

Fast way to socialize the farming in this nation.

How long before this machine is available to consumers?

there is no government mechanism to allow non-citizens to come in and do work that no one else is willing to do.

Is that on the table. Because I haven't heard anyone from the Trump administration mention such things.

Stephen Miller doesn't know how to run a country. But he sure does hate brown people.

So you are talking about the Affordable and Secure Food Act or Farm Workforce Modernization Act as it was known in the House. That bill passed the House with considerable bipartisan support to fail to overcome GOP filibuster in the Senate because GOP Senator Mike Crapo withdrew his support at the last minute.
Or maybe you are talking about the 2013 immigration security bill that passed the Senate with large bipartisan support only to have the GOP kill it in the house.
Actually you might be talking about the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 that had the support of George W. Bush and GOP leadership but still managed to be killed in the Senate by the GOP.

So yes, there are policy solutions to the farm labor crisis but one party has continued to perpetuate the problem.

Republicans think 42% of farm workers can get deported and everything will be fine.

The share of hired crop farmworkers who were not legally authorized to work in the United States grew from roughly 14 percent in 1989"91 to almost 55 percent in 1999"2001; in recent years it has declined to about 40 percent. In 2020"22, 32 percent of crop farmworkers were U.S. born, 7 percent were immigrants who had obtained U.S. citizenship, 19 percent were other authorized immigrants (primarily permanent residents or green-card holders), and the remaining 42 percent held no work authorization.

Your cult is using terror tactics to keep people from immigrating, legally, not just overstaying visas or crossing the border.
Your cult has cut funding for the very courts that decides and grants their approval to be in the United States.
Your cult is rounding up people, imprisoning them, terrorizing them, splitting families up, ripping communities apart without a plan to harvest crops and all the other things we relay on these folks to do.

If someone claims the U.S. is averaging 333,000 jobs per month for native-born workers, that is not supported by recent BLS data. The native-born employment numbers have fluctuated and, in some periods, declined, even as total employment has grown.

The total jobs added (from the payroll survey) have sometimes averaged over 300,000 per month, but this includes all workers, not just native-born.

This would match the growth of government under Biden.

I believe lowering immigration does lower growth. But is that all a country is? Growth? I would think Lumpers would argue there's more to a country than economic serfdom to capitalist pigs?

High net immigration raises home prices, lowers wages, and community participation. Immigration has its pluses, but too much immigration has a downside.

I am glad I was able to come to the US, but the reality every policy has a downside. Striving for only raising the GDP via high net migration, will only lower the quality of life in the US.

Sorry, but I find you to be boring Closet-Queen.

BTW, go fetch your boi Danforth so I can continue to expose him as a know-nothing ------. I notice he played his usual disappearing act after I posted above proving him to be a ------- - AGAIN. I want to see him argue how the BLS stats don't prove what they clearly prove.

Pokeman cards were the original Bitcoin! Prices for first-edition cards have appreciated by over 10,000%. The best cards are worth more than you'd think, true collectibles and are guaranteed to increase in value.

Dude, you were exposed. Just deal with it. Maybe you should have not shot your mouth off about the Trump tax cuts and someone here would still believe you - but, low intelligence and hubris is a bad combination as you proved by outing yourself.

Just stick to your old story about blowing 2000 theater kids while getting your interpretive dance degree - that is something that we all can believe.

Also, I see you completely blew past the fact that I kicked your ass yet again on the topic of 2M job creations for native born Americans (something you claimed was impossible in the past).

But, feel free to keep swinging and missing!

Read your 'zinger' comment again REAL SLOWLY this time - then report back why it makes no sense.

This is just basic logic 101 and you seem to still blow it (just like the 2000 theater kids from your past). Tell me, given the construct of your 'zinger' what would I believe if indeed I had less than 2 brain cells?

Post #59 exposed your claims as manure.

"Republicans think 42% of farm workers can get deported and everything will be fine."

Let them come in legally and everything will be fine.
Why cant you do that, Snoofy?
#44 | Posted by boaz

Huh?
You're saying the fix is for Trump to let them come in legally.
When is he going to start doing that?

How about, the 42 % who are already here without authorization, allow them to work legally.
Does that also work for you? Because that's called Amnesty and Republicans are against it.

Instead, you are detaining and deporting them at tremendous expense to the American taxpayer.
When they could be picking American crops.

Again - here is the January BLS report: www.bls.gov
Table 7, Native Born Employed = 130,573,000

Here is the June BLS report: www.bls.gov
Table 7, Native Born Employed = 132,652,000

What is 132,652,000 - 130,573,000?

Obviously I need to ask to see if your problem is:

1.) You can't do math
2.) You can't read a chart (AGAIN)
3.) You just want to lie regardless of the FACTS

So, tell me ------- - what is 132,652,000 - 130,573,000? Is is greater or less than 2M?

Oh, and what is the funniest part about all of this? Let's check the links from #59:

www.washingtonexaminer.com - this article is from Nov 2024 so totally non-responsive to my claim
www.washingtonexaminer.com - this article is from Oct 2024 so totally non-responsive to my claim
fred.stlouisfed.org - this link SHOWS THE SAME NUMBERS THAT I POSTED, check the number for Jan 2025 and June 2025. This link 100% PROVE I AM CORRECT

What are we to take from all of this?

1.) You didn't even bother to read the links
2.) You are too stupid to read the chart in the 3rd link even if you did manage to click it

So now - tell the class - did you open the links? If you did, how did you not understand that the St Louis Fed link 100% proves my point?

Case in point - on this thread and my current discussion with ------- Danforth - he is clearly wrong and I am clearly right - even the comment he claimed debunked me actually proves me to be 100% correct. Is that what you consider me losing?

The June 2025 numbers are preliminary.

BLS reports, particularly the Current Employment Statistics (CES) data, are revised multiple times. The initial, preliminary estimates are revised twice before being finalized..

Again, I'll wait for the final numbers, especially since this administration is known to lie.

"The old "I don't trust the BLS" routine? Really?"

Last week there was a report 33,000 jobs had been lost.

The next day, a report was issued which said over 100,000 jobs were gained.

So no, I don't trust the BLS, especially since these are preliminary numbers, and Team Trump values lies over truth.

10 juveniles were found at a marijuana facility - all illegal aliens, 8 of them unaccompanied. It's now under investigation for child labor violations.

#105 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-07-11 01:26 AM | Reply

Oh, look, BLS reports can get revised. Fourteen Months ago...

Recent U.S. jobs gains weren't as strong as they initially appeared. Between April 2023 and March 2024, the nation's employers created 818,000 fewer jobs than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) originally reported

So it looks like preliminary BLS numbers aren't always the final numbers.
