Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, August 10, 2025

The question asked of around 1,000 American voters was: "If Donald Trump was officially implicated in Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking activities, would this make you more likely to vote for another party, or would it not affect your vote for Donald Trump?" Forty-seven percent of Republican respondents said such a revelation would not affect their vote ...

"According to a KFF analysis in January 2025, 10 states with abortion bans or early gestational limits do not have a rape or ------ exception: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas. This means that in these states, abortion is banned even in cases where the pregnancy resulted from rape, regardless of the age of the victim."

Republicans have no problem with raping children.

They've legislated it.

Nope. In the story, she gives consent. And it is a spiritual, not a physical occurrence, much like what happened to her relatives (Elizabeth and Zechariah)... and what happened to other people throughout the OT when the Spirit came upon them and extraordinary things happened.

I don't get why it 100% all the time has to be the other guy that gets women pregnant from rape.

When women don't get pregnant from rape, is it because Satan does the abortion?

That god is TOTALLY into rape. The book has instructions for raping your slaves, raping prisoners of war, how to genocide, then pillage and rape the virgin girls, drunken ------ rape, how to get a wife by rape and then paying the father, all kinds of rape in there.

Of course the jesus story is a rape, it's just one of many, many rapes for that god.

Good thing it's all fictional.

"Frank is an expert on the final stages of the evolution of stars like the sun. His computational research group has developed advanced supercomputer tools in order to study how stars form and die.

So he would incline to a materialist view, surely?

But no, he says, quantum physics blew all that away. And some neuroscientists just haven't caught up:

"A century of agnosticism about the true nature of matter hasn't found its way deeply enough into other fields, where materialism still appears to be the most sensible way of dealing with the world and, most of all, with the mind.

Some neuroscientists think that they're being precise and grounded by holding tightly to materialist credentials. Molecular biologists, geneticists, and many other types of researchers " as well as the nonscientist public " have been similarly drawn to materialism's seeming finality.

But this conviction is out of step with what we physicists know about the material world " or rather, what we don't know.

"While it might sound strange to hear a physicist talking this way, we might wish to keep in mind that

As Eric Holloway points out, no materialist theory of consciousness is plausible and many have been labeled bizarre by people with no ax to grind in the matter.

Simple "explanations" like a consciousness signature or point in the brain have not turned up.

Research that does not assume a materialist approach to the mind has been fruitful. In any event, one of the most widely noted effects in medicine, the placebo effect (you get better in part because you think you will), does not have a materialist explanation.

As neurosurgeon Michael Egnor has noted, the findings of modern medicine have, if anything, confirmed the idea that the mind is immaterial.

Materialism may be taking a beating but science is not."

Why Evangelicals Couldn't Care Less About Trump's Epstein Scandal

They have a long history of falling for narcissists posing as Saviors.

"They have a long history of falling for narcissists posing as Saviors" is not the answer. The real answer is that, as flawed as he is, he is a means to an end. The end being the establishment of America as a "religious" state; sort of like Israel is a "Jewish" state. What they don't realize is that Trump will do "what ever" it takes to achieve his personal ambitions. And, when those ambitions have been slated, he will move on to something else. If that something else requires that he kick religious zealots to the curb, he will do that too.

I wonder if these fools think that Trump cares about them?

Umm sure it does.

The body is very capable of healing itself. The body WANTS to heal itself. Often times we are our own worse enemy when it comes to helping our bodies heal or just allowing our bodies to do what they do best and have done for hundreds of thousands of years. Sometimes we are also terrible at giving our own bodies what it needs to thrive.

Sometimes if we can just get out of our own way the body can do miracles.

"No Materialist Theory of Consciousness Is Plausible"

Perhaps the more accurate statement is consciousness is not really a definable concept.

You can start by defining consciousness and especially telling us if only humans can do consciousness or can other animals do it too.

For some reason, TRUMP really doesn't want is to see how the EPSTEIN FILES relate to TRUMP. Why is that?

So the inflamed boil festers and grows poisonous, the tattered coverup drags on and becomes insupportable, and TRUMP's panicked deflections from his association with EPSTEIN & MAXWELL intensify.

What you will find is opinions on several sides....

Perhaps but according to anything I have ever read consciousness itself has never been even defined much less understood. .

How is it possible that a bunch of particles that are devoid of consciousness get together and cause consciousness?

The best explanation of how consciousness arises from "a bunch of particles" so far is that it is an "emergent property" of matter. Though it still doesn't explain what it really is mostly I think because we just don't (or refuse to) understand ourselves or our place in the universe.

Emergent properties are characteristics that arise in complex systems but are not present in its individual components. For example, the collective behavior of ants in a colony, the ability of water to flow as a liquid, or the consciousness of a human brain or even Life itself are all emergent properties. These properties arise from the interactions and organization of simpler elements within the system.

While individual molecules are not alive, the complex interactions of molecules within a cell can give rise to "life".

Individual neurons do not possess consciousness, but the complex interactions of neurons in a brain can give rise to the individual conscious experience.

Which by the way is mostly just an illusion. The brain is more of a committee than an individual. We just are very good at fooling ourselves. Because we didn't need to know this just to survive and pass on our (good) genes. Which is really our only genetic requirement in life. Everything else is just the gravy.

But to answer the question, you or I might have run away, too, when the Roman soldiers came to arrest Jesus, rather than pulling our swords and taking off the ear of Malchus, a servant of the high priest, to protect Jesus as Simon Peter did. He was pissed.

Know one really knows; Matthew in other places used clothes symbolically, and there are various theories of who he was. I like the young disciple theory, John Mark running away, and tossing the bright white linen cloak that would make him easy to find.
