As of Wednesday, eight cases had been reported in that region of South Carolina. Five of them became sick within the past month and are part of a newly identified outbreak of measles.... Every case reported does involve a patient who was unvaccinated or did not have immunity from measles infections.

If that were even the case, then I would have to ask, why didn't the vaccination protection in the US reduce the occurrence and severity of the current measles cases here in the US?

If Americans were vaccinated, would this be something we are discussing?

My answer is, no.

But there has been an anti-vax movement in the United States that has caused an unwarranted susceptibility to measles.

Whether the cause of an outbreak is from our southern border, from someone returing from a trip to Europe or wherever.
