As of Wednesday, eight cases had been reported in that region of South Carolina. Five of them became sick within the past month and are part of a newly identified outbreak of measles.... Every case reported does involve a patient who was unvaccinated or did not have immunity from measles infections.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Health alerted residents that it had confirmed 10 new cases since Monday, bringing the state's tally so far this year to 18... None of the children had received the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/measles-minnesota-double-us-outbreaks-vaccine-continue-rcna235144

Measles was all but eliminated from the US a couple decades ago.

What has happened?

@#2 ... #1 Illegal immigration happened. 20 million un-vetted diseased third worlders. ...

If that were even the case, then I would have to ask, why didn't the vaccination protection in the US reduce the occurrence and severity of the current measles cases here in the US?

Asked differently, what else yer got besides a lame deflection attempt?

It wouldn't be back if people vaccinate themselves from it. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Measles has been spreading from the Southern border up.

@#8 ... Measles has been spreading from the Southern border up. ...

If that is the case, why is measles even spreading into the general population?

If the general population were properly vaccinated, would it spread among them?

Which goes back to my #7 comment ...

... In these cases, ignorance seems to be measles. ...

#9 We conquered measles. It came into America from overseas, when the borders where opened. That's not coincidence.

Look, H.P. Lovecraft was right: not only are mid-westerners devolving, but foreigners bring disease. And he was the Prophet of the Aeon.

@#10 ... We conquered measles. It came into America from overseas, when the borders where opened. That's not coincidence. ...

The coincidence in this is the lower vaccination rates of Americans.

If Americans were vaccinated, would this be something we are discussing?

My answer is, no.

But there has been an anti-vax movement in the United States that has caused an unwarranted susceptibility to measles.

Whether the cause of an outbreak is from our southern border, from someone returing from a trip to Europe or wherever.

The results are the same.

Lampy, we didn't need to vaccinate against measles anymore. That's why vax rates dropped.

Then what happened? Unwashed hordes, 20 million of them. All we have to do to keep measles out of our country is to check every immigrant. The "measles epidermic" is going to go away now that the border is under control.

Yet you seem to contradict that in the very next paragraph ...

... Then what happened? Unwashed hordes, 20 million of them. All we have to do to keep measles out of our country is to check every immigrant. ...

What about the US citizens returning from other countries, as I noted in @12.

... The "measles epidermic" is going to go away now that the border is under control. ...

While I hope that may be the case, I also note (and have cited) that there are other sources of measles beside the southern border.

So, maybe take a more medical, and less political, approach to the problem.

Mexico is reporting significant measles cases in the first half of 2025, including 421 cases and one death as of April 2025.

Measles in rural Guatemala1. The incidence and behavior of measles was determined by continuous prospective field study of whole populations in 3 villages during 4 years. Deaths numbered 153 per 100,000 population per year.

We quit vacationing for smallpox when it was considered eradicated from the world, not just the USA. Should be the same principle for measles, polio etc. Polio was very close to being considered eradicated worldwide but there have been recent surges.
