Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, October 05, 2025

As of Wednesday, eight cases had been reported in that region of South Carolina. Five of them became sick within the past month and are part of a newly identified outbreak of measles ... Every case reported does involve a patient who was unvaccinated or did not have immunity from measles infections.

The coincidence in this is the lower vaccination rates of Americans.

If Americans were vaccinated, would this be something we are discussing?

My answer is, no.

But there has been an anti-vax movement in the United States that has caused an unwarranted susceptibility to measles.

Whether the cause of an outbreak is from our southern border, from someone returing from a trip to Europe or wherever.

The results are the same.

Lampy, we didn't need to vaccinate against measles anymore. That's why vax rates dropped.

Then what happened? Unwashed hordes, 20 million of them. All we have to do to keep measles out of our country is to check every immigrant. The "measles epidermic" is going to go away now that the border is under control.

What about the US citizens returning from other countries, as I noted in @12.

... The "measles epidermic" is going to go away now that the border is under control. ...

While I hope that may be the case, I also note (and have cited) that there are other sources of measles beside the southern border.

So, maybe take a more medical, and less political, approach to the problem.

Grok, does Ivermectin work on COVID-19? Be concise.

Evidence on Ivermectin's effectiveness for COVID-19 is mixed. Some studies suggest potential benefits in reducing viral load or symptom severity, particularly in early treatment, but many are small, low-quality, or inconclusive. Major health organizations like the WHO and CDC do not recommend it for COVID-19 treatment outside clinical trials due to insufficient robust data. Large, well-designed trials are still needed.

Alberta reported its first measles death since outbreaks of the highly contagious illness began in the province in March.

The baby was born prematurely after the mother contracted measles during pregnancy and died shortly after birth.

"Since measles cases were first reported in Alberta this spring, I had hoped this moment would not come," Adriana LaGrange, the Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services said. "I am saddened to share that we have had our first death from measles in the province."

Children under five, pregnant individuals and people with weakened immune systems are at the highest risk from measles infections.

Parasitic infections also skew immunity towards humoral immunity (TH2 response) that weakens a cellular (TH1 response) needed for anti-viral immunity.

You treat the parasitic infection with ivermectin, you boost anti-viral immunity in those who are treated.

In "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande (and of course elsewhere) it's hypothesized that our modern way of life where people in advanced countries generally don't have parasitic infections explains the rise in autoimmune diseases.

Because our immune systems are evolved for a host that will eventually acquire a parasitic disease and deploy various immune responses to combat it.

Without that external stimulus, the immune system eventually turns on its own host.
