Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, October 12, 2025

"Every night for weeks we are forced to listen to the threatening rhythm of helicopter blades as the federal regime spies on us. The only limit power knows is our refusal to submit. This Saturday, October 11th, you are invited to fight back. All you need is a laser. Leave home " they can see where the laser is coming from. Go to a park, a field, or some other public place, and once the clock strikes 9 unleash your beam at the cop copter. Mask up. Coordinate with friends to throw a laser party! Let's take back the night together! It won't take many of us to ground the helicopters!" Volunteers were instructed to mask up, coordinate with others, and take steps to avoid identification: Clean laser pointers with alcohol, wear gloves, and remove potential DNA traces before disposal. Over the weekend, Portland police wrongfully arrested an independent journalist during an anti-ICE demonstration: 'X'.

U.S. federal agents have used Black Hawk helicopters and other military-style tactics during immigration enforcement operations in civilian areas, leading to accusations of treating cities like "war zones". Critics describe these actions as using intimidation and fear against the public.

If you want to create an atmosphere of war and fear in American cities then that's what you will get.

But of you use a military aircraft aggressively as weapons against civilians you are an idiot if you don't think those civilians will at some point respond accordingly and aggressively.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Science!

Also there is this:

Pilots can and do wear eye protection against laser attacks, using specialized eyewear that blocks dangerous laser light while maintaining visibility for flying. These glasses are a standard procedure for many military and some civilian pilots, especially during critical phases of flight like takeoff and landing, and are designed to protect against the bright, distracting effects of high-powered lasers.

It's not like they are defenseless against laser attacks.

Science!

If people in Portland are concerned Trump wants justification to bring in more National Guard or whatever, and created a fake photo, then shooting lasers at actual aircraft endangering everyone would be playing into his hands.

There is a reason they want to use lasers. Lasers can burn out your retinas. Sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently. They can shine flashlights at helicopters all day long.

Would you have an issue with someone standing at the end of a runway and lasing the cockpits of commercial airlines? If not, why?

Which cities did he invade again?

Maybe you didn't realize it, but after 9/11 there were National Guard troops everywhere. I took a cruise in December of 2001, and the Miami port was guarded by troops. Rather than being afraid, most people seemed to be glad and appreciative.

I'm not a fan of the troop deployments thing, because troops are not Law Enforcement Officers. They can't arrest anyone. I don't think they can even legally detain people. Even Military Police cannot do that. It would be better to mobilize units that do have the authority to make arrests. DHS, FBI, even the Forest Service has officers empowered to make arrests.

No clue. Maybe it's to reassure residents, like after 9/11. Maybe some criminals are dumb enough to think that the military could arrest them, and troops serve as a deterrent.

Jpw,

The point of view you need to understand right now is people here illegally are not being killed. They're being relocated.

Compassion without boundaries becomes chaos. Law without mercy becomes tyranny.

The US keeps swinging between the two instead of balancing them. Why?

It's not confusion. It's a moral tug-of-war baked into how people and governments operate.

But...the problem is they can't operate at the same time.

Sort of like the police play "good cop, bad cop". Or in families kids hear, "go ask your mom" or "go ask your dad".

Whats going on is really nothing new.

Unfortunately, up to recently, regarding people here illegally, for the most part, the "good cop" has been running the show, and now the "bad cop" is being put in charge.

Again, compassion without boundaries becomes chaos. Law without mercy becomes tyranny.

But they can't be in charge at the same time.

Sounds like a pretty ignorant "point of view".

A total of 51 immigrants died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody during Donald Trump's four-year presidency, from Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 to FY 2020.

A June 2024 report from the ACLU, Physicians for Human Rights, and American Oversight found that 95% of 52 deaths examined between FY 2017 and FY 2021 were likely preventable with adequate medical care.

As of October 9, 2025, at least 22 immigrants died in ICE custody during the 2025 fiscal year (which began in October 2024), representing the highest death toll in 20 years.
