Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, November 12, 2025

The Biden-era sanctuary state policies in California foisted on the state and Americans by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom have once again collided with federal law " this time on America's highways. The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has admitted to illegally issuing 17,000 commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) to foreign nationals who were not legally eligible to hold them, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Tuesday. "After weeks of claiming they did nothing wrong, Gavin Newsom and California have been caught red-handed," Duffy wrote in a statement. "Now that we've exposed their lies, 17,000 illegally issued trucking licenses are being revoked.

According to Duffy, the exposure came after an audit by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) found systemic violations in California's licensing process " violations that allowed non-domiciled, and in many cases undocumented, individuals to obtain credentials to operate heavy commercial vehicles, including semitrucks and school buses.

"illegal trucking licenses" ain't much of a scandal in Trump terms.

And today we learn that Donald knew about the girls and did nothing.

Newsom handed out 17,000 licenses?

Way to crack the case, Duffy.

Here's some news to scare you xenophobes:

"Undocumented immigrants can get a driver's license in 19 states and the District of Columbia by providing proof of identity and residency and passing all the required driving tests."

We'll wait.

You're talking about regular licenses.

I'll wait for Danforth to come along and blame this on the republican chamber of commerce in cahoots with local business owners. LOL

It IS about commerce, BTW. This is a governor who is representing the interests of business.

California NEEDS immigrants, legal or otherwise....and they KNOW it. This is proof. They are willing to knowingly violate Federal Law when they issue those CDL licenses.

Oh lookie. A maga turd desperately trying to shame Newsom.

It's my understanding that the federal government allowed the individuals to receive a work permit which in turn allowed them to obtain a CDL in accordance with California law at the time of initial issuance.

But the biggest difference here is that California admitted to its error and corrected it.

When will Trumpy ever admit his errors and then correct them?

That will happen on the 35th of Nevermind.

The audit found "systemic non-compliance" in California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington." From the Washington Examiner

"The Biden-era sanctuary state policies in California foisted on the state and Americans by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom have once again collided with federal law " this time on America's highways."

The statement exaggerates the novelty and political attribution of the crisis; the CDL compliance failures are long-standing and multifaceted federal-state regulatory issues, with enforcement actions occurring during Newsom's governorship but rooted in deeper systemic causes.

Systemic issues related to the improper issuance of commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) in California predate Governor Newsom's tenure and have been an ongoing challenge for years. Federal investigations and prosecutions have previously uncovered cases of DMV employees accepting bribes, identity fraud, and widespread failures to verify lawful presence or work authorization for CDL holders in the state. There have been several incidents and audits revealing California's troubles with licensing, including improper verification protocols, record-keeping failures, and compliance gaps that resulted in thousands of ineligible individuals receiving CDLs.[1][4][6]

Similar problems with license issuance have resulted in criminal prosecutions, regulatory crackdowns, and calls for reform and oversight well before the current scandal or Newsom's administration. These ongoing challenges highlight that California's CDL licensing controversies are part of a broader and persistent problem, not simply a recent development.[4][6][1]

Yes.

As I said earlier, this is evidence that Newsom is actually pro business. He's trying to keep the economy moving.

But the other reason why I jumped into this thread was because we always have these debates about how guilty the employers are of making this mess.

And how nobody understands seemingly why the government doesn't do something about it.

This is why. Quite frankly both the federal and the state governments are 100% complicit in illegal immigration issues and it's why they don't jump on the employers like so many here would hope.

Because lfthndthrds and Newsmax are liars and idiots:

The licenses were issued when the driver was LEGALLY allowed to be here and get a CDL.

The issue: The license would expire AFTER the legal immigration status expired because the license had a set expiration time and no law pegged it to the expiration of legal immigration status.

The solution: California is REVOKING the licenses early because the drivers no longer have legal immigration status.

CONCLUSION: LFTHNDTHRDS and Newsmax lied.

Here's the AP story, are they tinfoil hatters too?

apnews.com

"After weeks of claiming they did nothing wrong, Gavin Newsom and California have been caught red-handed. Now that we've exposed their lies, 17,000 illegally issued trucking licenses are being revoked," Duffy said, referring to the state's governor. "This is just the tip of iceberg. My team will continue to force California to prove they have removed every illegal immigrant from behind the wheel of semitrucks and school buses."

Newsom's office said that every one of the drivers whose license is being revoked had valid work authorizations from the federal government. At first, his office declined to disclose the exact reason for revoking the licenses, saying only they violated state law. Later, his office revealed the state law it was referring to was one that requires the licenses expire on or before a person's legal status to be in the United State ends, as reported to the DMV.

#39 | Posted by lfthndthrds at 2025-11-13 01:37 PM | Reply

Right now there's 17,000 illegal immigrants with CDLs to drive semis and school busses. Gavin Newsom wants you to believe that every one of those licenses were issued to someone who had authorization to be in this country, but that his state broke their own laws by letting them drive after they were no longer permitted to be here. And I have a bridge for sale...

California revokes 17,000 commercial driver's licenses for immigrants
apnews.com

... California plans to revoke 17,000 commercial driver's licenses given to immigrants after discovering the expiration dates went past when the drivers were legally allowed to be in the U.S., state officials said Wednesday.

The announcement follows harsh criticism from the Trump administration about California and other states granting licenses to people in the country illegally. The issue was thrust into the public's consciousness in August, when a tractor-trailer driver not authorized to be in the U.S. made an illegal U-turn and caused a crash in Florida that killed three people. ...

Eberly, what makes no sense about employers getting away with hiring illegals, is the form i9.

The government would hit the employer with penalties of they don't have a name and social matching up. The government has to know that the employee has either a false number or is using a number given to them that can't be used for employment.
