As early as October 2024, New Jersey lawmakers heard that some noncitizens were registering to vote through state Motor Vehicle Commission offices. The issue, county election officials said at a public hearing, appeared to be tied to the state "motor-voter" system, which can add residents to votor rolls when they do vehicle-related transactions. The commission offices' computer system asked in English whether users were U.S. citizens and eligible to cast ballots, and some people did not appear to speak or read the language well. |
