6600 non citizens registered to vote in New Jersey

As early as October 2024, New Jersey lawmakers heard that some noncitizens were registering to vote through state Motor Vehicle Commission offices. The issue, county election officials said at a public hearing, appeared to be tied to the state "motor-voter" system, which can add residents to votor rolls when they do vehicle-related transactions. The commission offices' computer system asked in English whether users were U.S. citizens and eligible to cast ballots, and some people did not appear to speak or read the language well.

At an April 15 budget hearing, the topic of potential voter fraud came up, and Assemblyman Brian Rumpf (R-Ocean) suggested that New Jersey could improve upon matching signatures to verify a voter's identity.

Typical Republican response. Typical because it wouldn't fix the problem, but would introduce new problems, and disenfranchise legitimate voters.

Matching signatures would simply confirm the improperly registered voter is indeed the improperly registered voter. It wouldn't stop them from voting.

Republicans have always been afraid of voters; the People, which is why they under-fund education and healthcare, and overfund the billionaires and corporations that they serve instead.

Right now they are running scared, though, as at least 1 out of 5 of their own voters aren't going to support them this year.

I agree it's weak. Sounds like more of a State of New Jersey process error than a computer error. I think NJ is saying, the screens should have been in other languages, and the people clicked the wrong thing because their English isn't very good. But that doesn't address how they got registered to vote.

Best thing for the State would be if the vendor was supposed to be determining eligibility status. The State Department can outsource that function, as Florida famously did in 2009 to a Georgia company, to avoid discovery under Florida law.

More granular, what is the affect spread across the state (2 senate votes) and each of it's congressional districts (12)? If we go further down this fantasy rabbit hole, "one state," what is the affect across the 538 electoral votes nation wide? The questions are central to the legal, "affects the outcome," standard.

In 2000 we had a presidential election decided by 527 votes. We've seen congressional races closer than that. Every noncitizen vote effectively cancels out the vote of an actual citizen. So when we hear Democrats and lefties say, "We want to count every vote." do they mean it? Or do they actually want noncitizen votes counted too?

Certainly not in a manner efficient to be effective with 10s of millions of people voting

Those people did not register to vote. Only 400 voted because they thought they were eligible. So no fraud.

They were registered to vote by faulty software.

Software that has since been corrected.

But we aren't getting rid of our current congressional system.

Also, FWIW, the 10 least populated states? The senate makeup is 10 R and 10 D.
