Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, May 23, 2024

Here are the words that Rep. Jim McGovern spoke which House of Representatives Republicans got stricken from the record after an hour of debate: "Donald Trump might want to be a king. But he is not a king. He is not a presumptive king. He's not even a president. He's a presumptive nominee. And I know you're trying to do your job and follow precedent but, frankly, at some point it's time for this body to recognize that there is no precedent for this situation. We have a presumptive nominee for president facing 88 felony counts and we are being prevented from even acknowledging it. These are not alternative facts. There are real facts. A candidate for president of the United States is on trial for sending a hush money payment to a porn star to avoid a sex scandal during his 2016 campaign, and then fraudulently disguising those payments in violation of the law. He is also charged with conspiring to overturn the election. He is also charged with stealing classified information. And a jury has already found him liable for rape in a civil court. And yet, in this Republican-controlled House, it's okay to talk about the trial but you have to call it a sham."

"McGovern listed off a series of facts about the four criminal cases against Trump, which total 88 counts."

Fact-free Republican House.

Never would have heard about McGovern's submission if it wasn't for the complaints about it. Thanks for ensuring it gets wide publicity.

What wide publicity? If the liberal media doesn't run with it, as it should, this will fade faster than Trump's 2016 oath of office.

And if McGovern's continues to show up the GOP led House of Representatives for the fraud that they are, they'll do worse than ban him from speaking for the day. He'll be ostersized until he learns that autocracy is already alive and well in the House of Representatives and if he wants to survive, he must assimilate.

What does an autocracy need a House of Representatives for anyway?

When only one opinion counts, there is no "representation." And the law is what the Autocrat says it is, no matter how spitefully adolescent and irresponsible he turns out to be.

Mentally, Trump is still at an age where he shouldn't be allowed to play with matches.

That's really saying something with as big of an ass as Trump has.

Bet it has pimples and rashes on it too!

... New Rule: No Factual Criticism of Trump in GOP House ...

New?

Since when?

#11 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-05-24 02:33 AM | Reply

This is basically the GOP in a nutshell.
Simply refuse to face the facts that disagree
with their ideology/mythologies. It's no wonder so many
evangelicals, fundamentalists, and other various
flavors of nutter Christians adhere so strongly
to the party. It's exactly the same thing they
do with their religious beliefs, in the face of
all available evidence to the contrary.

The GOP is a party of idiot contrarians,
who are ignorant, because they simply CHOOSE to be.

They prefer it that way!

Great posts above; you'd think some of our MAGA posters would at least try to defend themselves but I suspect they know, deep in their hearts, that the unthinking, uncritical cult behavior around Trump is more of a mental illness than a political decision!

As fascism creeps is way, quickly, into our government, into our judicial system, goodness knows into controlling the Republican Party, one must never name the beast that has those idiot Republicans by the throat.
Donald Trump is a terrible human being, was an incompetent President, and is a great danger to the world order. He is most likely going to be found guilty of at least one felony, if the trials are allowed to go forward...and that is the guy Nikki Haley will be voting for.
No such thing as a good Republican in the time of Trump, he has perverted them all.
And one day they will take down words such as I just wrote, as they take such words down in Congress, for our free speech is very at risk.
That is why this old guy speaks his mind now...

Republicans have always been the party of jingoistic fallacies. The modern variety has devolved much further into weaving bull$#!+ out of bull$#!+.

That GQP stiff in the Chairman's seat ... can not read, period, full stop.

If you haven't watched the clip, Laurence O'donnel presents a clear picture.

Seriously, that GOP-Goober in the Chairman's seat reads like a slow 3rd grader.

He is 'best and brightest of GQP-Goobers' right?

"Trump does care about the The People."

Uh huh. Sure he does.

And if you believe that I have a real nice bridge for you. Cheap!

It's made of gold and people will pay you to cross it. The People say it's a great deal. And the people know these things. All Americans agree that it's a very fine bridge. You should buy it! For the people!

The rule is, and ALWAYS HAS BEEN, that someone is innocent until proven guilty. So your tag line is 100% incorrect. It is not a new rule. Now, you could have said that it was too soon to make those statements and then you would have been right. All one has to do is wait until the ruling to make comments on record in a political forum. I guess even that is too hard for liberals to understand.

"The rule is, and ALWAYS HAS BEEN, that someone is innocent until proven guilty."

Well except for Hillary Clinton. You all just "knew" she was guilty of something. Right?

As I recall the maga chant was "lock her up!"

Not "charge her with a crime!"

Not "indict her"!

Definitely not "she's innocent until proven guilty!"

You maga maroons are so full of it.

I'll bet a dollar that if they drew up a bill and got it through the Senate Joey Cuckold would sign it into law.

He's all about bipartisanship.
