If Kilmar Abrego Garcia is guilty of the crimes he is accused of, then the Trump administration could simply follow the law and prosecute him within his due-process rights, Adam Serwer writes. Why won't it?[image or embed]

After these first three tyrannical, lawless months of this presidency, surely Americans can understand now that Donald Trump is going to continue to decimate America for the next three-plus years. He will continue his assault on America, its democracy, and rule of law until the American people finally rise up and say, "No more."

From across the ages, Frederick Douglass is crying out that we Americans never forget: "The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."

... The 47th president seems to wish he were king ...

Well, yeah.

It seems to be quite obvious at this point.

Asked differently ...

Why does Pres Trump seem to want to suck up to the autocrats and dictators of the world, all the while castigating our long-term Democracy-promoting allies?

I think it has to do with the fact that he suffers from very low self esteem. He figures if he were a dictator that would compensate for his many ummmmmmm short comings. Just a thought that I had.

@#5 ... I think it has to do with the fact that he suffers from very low self esteem. ...

Possibly.

But his apparent allowance of autocrats and dictators to purchase him helps his self-esteem, how?

My guess is that those actions further reduce his importance, not increase it.

Stated differently, he may be purchased for a transactional reason.

The President of the United States may be purchased for purely a transactional reason.

Trump and his band of pirates have been plotting this for the last 4 years. They've figured out how to circumvent the court. Congress should be pressing their constitutional will, but they make more $$$ being the opposition, especially the Democrats. Trump will get his way until Father Time intervenes. By the looks of Trump, it shouldn't be long.

It's amazing that King Dotard XIV's army of lawyers (that he was allowed under due process) couldn't counter any of this.
But the fact that the super duper Biden secret scammers (that could rig the election while KDXIV was in power, yet couldn't when they had power) was able to get past thousands of jurors, judges, investigators, lawyers, etc. was able to get indictments and convictions but not actually lock him up, is wild.
The logic pretzels you must be able to bend yourself into every day, as a yoga teacher, I find truly impressive.

When it comes to this I wish Trump had taken the high road. At the same time, abusing the system to persecute political adversaries has been SOP for a Dems for at least a decade. None of you who cheered it on then, are in a position to cry like a little girl now.

JPW implies that those who entered illegally with minimal vetting and were then released deserves years of "Due Process" ... not to be

The Constitution explicitly states they are deserving of Due Process.
