Yeah, marijuana is a drug.

And all drugs have unintended side effects.

"Compared to nonusers, those who used cannabis also had a 29% higher risk for heart attacks and a 20% higher risk for stroke, according to the study published Tuesday in the journal Heart."

&(

"However, edibles may also play a role in heart disease, according to a May 2025 study.

People who consumed edibles laced with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, showed signs of early cardiovascular disease similar to tobacco smokers.

"We found that vascular function was reduced by 42% in marijuana smokers and by 56% in THC-edible users compared to nonusers," Dr. Leila Mohammadi, an assistant researcher in cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco, told CNN in a prior interview."

OK, from what I can remember of my days, now a half-century ago, when I had partaken of the evil weed...

If I have to go, maybe that is they way I would want to go.

[Intro]

[Chorus]
One toke over the line, sweet Jesus
One toke over the line
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line

Waitin' for the train that goes home, sweet Mary
Hopin' that the train is on time
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line

[Verse 1]
Who do you love? I hope it's me
I've been changin' as you can plainly see
I felt the joy and I learned about the pain that my mama said
If I should choose to make a part of me, would surely strike me dead

Yeah, no.

What's the life expectancy of someone hooked on opioids?

"Studies" like these are pretty useless and obviously skewed towards pharma.

FTA: "Those studies did not ask people how they used cannabis " such as via smoking, vaping, dabbing, edibles, tinctures or topicals. (Dabbing involves vaporizing concentrated cannabis and inhaling the vapor.) However, "based on epidemiological data, it is likely that cannabis was smoked in the vast majority of cases," Jouanjus said."
..

Leila Mohammadi, an assistant researcher in cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco, told CNN in a prior interview.

None of the studies included in the new meta-analysis asked users about the potency of THC in the products they consume. Even if they had, that information would be quickly outdated, Silver said.

"The cannabis market is a moving target. It is getting more potent every day," she said.

"What's being sold to people today in California is 5 to 10 times stronger than what it was in the 1970s. Concentrates can be 99% pure THC. Vapes are over 80% THC."

If valid I wonder if there are specific cannabinoids that could be to blame? Does CBD have similar risks?

It really seems stupid to include "compared to the 70's" as if the majority can relate to getting a bag of dry crap that was crammed and transported across several states. My local dispensary currently offers fine starts for $25.

Anti marijuana laws were a great way to incarcerate otherwise completely innocent people, especially black people.

I wouldn't be surprised if studies like these aren't used to push anti marijuana legislation.

Huh.

Data availability statement

No data are available. The data explored in this systematic review and meta-analysis have been extracted from publicly available databases. Although the authors will not share the data directly, any interested researcher may apply the search strategy developed for this analysis, available in the online supplemental appendix.

Yeah, this is looking REALLY fishy.

I also looked up the names on the paper. Some of them are... shady at best. There are some addiction claims some of them have made that are absolute bullcrap.

This is an intentional hit piece.

" There was a moderate to high risk of bias in most of the included studies, largely because of lack of information on missing data and imprecise measures of cannabis exposure."

I wouldn't be surprised if studies like these aren't-
revealing an independent relationship to heart issues ,

African Americans from the United States (95%), had the highest rate of cardiovascular death among the ethnic/racial groups worldwide.

Black Americans use cannabis at the highest rate among major ethnic groups

FTA-The researchers acknowledged several limitations to their systematic review and meta analysis. There was a moderate to high risk of bias in most of the included studies, largely because of lack of information on missing data and imprecise measures of cannabis exposure. Most of them were observational and several used the same data

My own personal experience has a "moderate to high risk of bias".

But if I had consumed as much alcohol as I have consumed cannabis I'd be dead long ago with a trail of destruction left stretched far and wide behind me.

After all I the bs I have been through in my life its a minor miracle that I am still here at all!

But cannabis has definitely helped.

I have never been so wasted on weed that I would risk my life doing something stupid .Alcohol that's another story altogether, growing up in the 60's and 70's drunk driving was an acceptable social practice.

But where are these alcohol death stats comparisons?

Absolutely one-sided.

Don't even bother.

Not a daily user here but have been known to partake. I used to think the same thing you're saying but this strong stuff these days causes people to behave differently. Had a neighbor back in NOLA who was an investment banker at the time, guy was cool as a cucumber but if he wasn't at work he was high as a kite from breakfast to bed, and I had my suspicions that likely used at work. All that said, I was around him a couple of times when he was out and it wasn't pleasant. Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde
