The plan all along was to raise taxes on the middle class to cut taxes for billionaires.

Always.

It is the SOP for the GOP.

If you thought a billionaire was going to lower prices for you, you're a special kind of stupid.

Remember when inflation was WAY higher than it is today (9%) under Biden and Dems ignored it and said it's not really true? Even the DR lib kids on this site said it was not actually true. Oh, but now that it's 2.9% today, all of a sudden "soaring grocery costs" comes out of DR lib kids mouths.

I'm sure you don't care since it doesn't meet your narrative but this is a topic that completely illustrates the point of how hypocritical so many partisan people really are.

No. I don't remember anyone "ignoring" it. I do remember a lot debating going on around the cause and the actual numbers. Which still happens. Except now we can't trust ANY of the data because if Dear Leader is not pleased with the data he just fires everyone.

I also remember getting a big cola to compensate for it. Which means it was obviously NOT being "ignored".

I also remember WHY it happened. Do you?

And it decrease by .5% in Q1 when everyone rushed to import products to fill warehouses to hopefully out last the tariffs.

Imports crashed in Q2 as companies lived on what's in their warehouses so the GDP naturally saw an artificial bounce.

That's like saying "I saved $400 this week because I bought $800 worth of groceries last week and am therefore expecting to save $400 per week forever now!"

But the average is now 1.4% GDP growth for the year. That's NOT something to brag about.

What happens when these companies have to start importing again under the tariffs?

Last Friday in Jackson Hole, Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell finally " and grudgingly " admitted what the Trump team has been saying all along: tariffs don't fuel inflation.

That's just more stupid on your part. Something I expect every time I see one of your posts. Do you even bother to determine what poison you swallow and then throw up on here? An OPINION piece by that ridiculous fraud Navarro? SERIOUSLY?

What Powell said is inflation may be a step function, based on the tariff rates, and that inflation itself, once the bump in prices stabilizes, may then be what we're seeing today. So we may have some huge hits on prices, and the inflation rate because of that may go up quite a bit, but the "new" price will not continue to go up. So we'll all eat a massive devaluation of our dollars and then live with everything costing us more, but hey - look on the bright side: The inflation rate after all that might not be too bad (if we manage monetary policy wisely)...

Trump may have just had his ass saved on this, though, since a federal appeals court struck down most of his tariffs. He may just teflon his way out his own self-imposed destruction. Again.

I overlooked the link to fox so now I know you use fake news sources.
The liar at Fox says Powell claimed that "At most, tariffs create a one-time adjustment in prices, not the kind of runaway spiral that demands punishing rate hikes."

While he did say that a reasonable argument can be made that "the effects will be relatively short lived"a one-time shift in the price level," he went on to say that "It is also possible, however, that the upward pressure on prices from tariffs could spur a more lasting inflation dynamic"

The fox article is only covering the first part of the statement and leaves the next part out because Fox is fake news. You should feel embarrassed for posting such garbage.

Bill, grown ups don't blindly trust media outlets that paid 3/4 of a BILLION dollars and fired their top ratings getter for spreading election lies. The quote you failed to attribute was very clearly a lie to anyone who has ever paid any attention to Jerome Powell, tariffs or knows the first thing about basic economics. You can't raise costs 20% or more on companies and not expect them to pass at least some of that expense on to consumers. I would hope that is not a foreign concept to you since that has been at the foundation of the right's opposition to everything from environmental regulations to mandatory parental leave and raising minimum wage for several decades at this point.

I feel that the adult thing to do would be to stop trusting Fox and give some consideration to what other lies you have blindly accepted from them.

The illegal tariffs are, in effect, sales taxes that the people did not vote for, and would not vote for. And, by the way court who ruled they are illegal but let them continue, the greatest injury is to the consumers since if the federal Supreme Court rules the same way you ruled the money can never be returned to the people. You should have ruled to stop the tariffs.

Down from $22.99 a week or so ago, but still significantly higher than when Pres Trump said he would lower grocery prices on Day One.

Fortunately, when Pres first started announcing his tarriffs (especially on Brazil and Vietnam) I stocked up on coffee, so I have about a 5 or 6 month supply, which I bought on sale for $7.99 a container.

OK, back to the thread topic...

And I will say up front, not an authoritative source in any shape manner or form. So make of it as you will ...

Grocery price comparison from 2019 to January 2025 spreadsheet
www.reddit.com

... In 2019 I made a price spreadsheet for the things we normally buy. I found it on my computer over the weekend so I thought I would do an updated price list and see the comparison.

Some items went up drastically, some stayed basically the same and a few were actually a little less. Obviously, the eggs were a huge increase, 18 eggs in 2019 were $1.57 and 18 yesterday were $10.99.

On the original spreadsheet I listed the item specifics - brand, amount/weight, so the comparison would be for the exact thing.

Overall the total for all the items in 2019 was $273.46. The total for all the items in 2025 was $386.77. That's an increase of $130.30. The federal minimum wage has not increased in that time. So for people making $7.25 an hour, they are making no more pay, but possibly having an increase of $130.30 on a grocery run. This does not include any fresh beef, chicken or pork, which are way more expensive than they were then. I wish I had noted those prices as well, but they fluctuate so much that I didn't bother.

Editing to add my location. US, southeast Missouri. ...

Curious that your current alias' first comment was about Pres Trump being blamed.

Especially when all that was mentioned in #80 were prices, with no mention of Pres Trump.

But that does raise an interesting question.

Apparently your current alias' comment acknowledges that prices have been increasing, but it has a concern that those rising prices may be attributed to Pres Trump.

That leads me to ask, why does your current alias seem to hold the opinion that current increasing grocery prices should not be attributed to Pres Trump?

Especially after he said he would lower grocery prices on Day One?

If it's equality. Then yes, it's the same.

If it's tolerance. The yes, it's the same.

But.

Homosexuals wanted to have the government recognize our unions and provide us the same rights as everyone else.

Doesn't really need anyone else to change their lives or do anything.

Transgenders want people to recognize them by the gender they identify as and give them the rights to live their lives as their identified gender.

Requires others to allow them to. Which seems be too much for most.

, Native Americans do not generally believe that all rocks are ancestors; rather, they hold that living things, including rocks, animals, plants, and other elements of the Earth, are all related, possess a spiritual essence, and are their "older relatives" or "brothers and sisters". Rocks and stones are revered for their connection to the land and ancestry and can be seen as embodying the wisdom of the past and providing a link to the spiritual world.
Spiritual Significance of Rocks
Spiritual Essence:
In many Native American cultures, animism is a common belief, where all elements of the natural world, including rocks, are seen as having a spirit or consciousness.
Connection to Ancestors:
Rocks are often viewed as powerful beings that embody the wisdom of the past, serving as a bridge between the living and the ancestral realm.
Sacred Places:
Certain rock formations are considered sacred sites, linking the physical and spiritual worlds.
Living Entities:
Stones and gemstones are traditionally considered living entities, each holding a special place in the natural world.
Healing and Wisdom:
Indigenous people have used stones for millennia in medicine and ceremonies, believing they can provide healing, balance, and wisdom.
Cultural Context
"Relations":
Concepts like "brothers," "sisters," "uncles," and "grandfathers" are used to describe relationships with animals, trees, and rocks.
Honoring the Earth:
The belief that all these elements are related fosters a deep respect and responsibility to protect the Earth, which is viewed as the ultimate origin and source of all life.
Symbolic vs. Literal:
While specific individual rocks may not be literal ancestors, they hold spiritual significance, representing the ancient wisdom and lineage of the Earth and its inhabitants.

#111 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-08-30 10:01 PM | Reply

Lamp,

It's pretty simple.

Transgenders have all the same rights as gays, or things gays want, that straights don't want, like Gay Marriage.

To begin, I will not consider them the opposite gender for argument sake.

Two people who both have the same anatomy can marry, even if one is wearing a white dress.

The whole issue is transgenders are expecting certain accommodations gays don't need, namely wanting society to pretend he's a she.

That was fine for a long time until it turned into an activist issue primarily when minor aged girls or boys started going in the wrong showers and restrooms.

Perhaps a business might chose to use pronouns and such, but he should stay out of the woman's bathroom.

Transgenders have a dilemma. If they want to live the opposite gender, they better get thick skin.

Society is straight. Gays will never be a larger segment of the population than they currently are. Won't happen.

Being gay is tough. Being transgender must be tougher.

I don't know what to suggest but I'll tell you now. Women will not be pushed aside or infringed upon.

Do you know the part of the Bible that says:
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

It only means we are mortal. From the description above Indians believed in a natural or material world where physical things were related (earth spirit)(motherearth).

The Bible as I understand it, delineates between the spiritual in the exoplanetary Earth sense, and the material world of the earth.

This is where the phrase "Not of this World" comes from, for Native American Indians this is a foreign concept (at least using the description provided by Laura).

Lamp,

I don't lump them, but liberals do.

Because liberals do, they must be addressed as such.

My writing should be clear. I break out transgender from "gay rights".

My take on it is this.

Gays and liberals won Gay Marriage but couldn't just sit back and enjoy their win.

After winning on marriage, liberals needed a new wedge issue.

So this one particular young girl in school wanted to use the boy's showers and was denied. It went to court.

Of course the girl wasn't taking it to court. It was liberals.

But here's the kicker...this isn't even about gays anymore. It's straight liberal activists, likely atheists, weaponizing the issue to jab at Christian values.

That's a little heavy...that's the Cliff Notes version.

www.newsweek.com

... Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has repeatedly expressed an interest in revisiting the court's decision that established the right to same-sex marriage.
Why It Matters

The Supreme Court's 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, decided by a narrow 5-4 vote, said same-sex couples had the right to marry under the equal protection clause and the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

But President Donald Trump's three appointees cemented a 6-3 conservative majority on the court. The court in 2022 overturned Roe v. Wade, the ruling that had established a constitutional right to abortion, raising fears that other rights could be in jeopardy.

Last month, Idaho lawmakers called on the court to undo Obergefell, a move that would once again allow states to ban same-sex marriage. ...

A Lifeline for Trans Youth: Puberty Blockers, Explained
For many trans youth, especially those who have long been consistent in their gender identity, doctors may prescribe puberty-pausing medications. They're often referred to as "puberty blockers," but it's much more accurate to say that they pause puberty " because that's exactly what they do. For the youth who need them, these medications are essential!

After 15 years of living in the US I have never heard of it being "necessary", as in a NEED, life or death.

After this whole thing with Westman, I think we should rethink the "necessary" part. It may be a desire, but is it really necessary, like a heart transplant?

Let go.
Let go, let go, let go.

Let go of the fact you're drove by fear.
[...] many years
A fear of life
And a fear of death
A fear of what's right and what is best

Politicians religion and bombs
Got us running back to our momma's arms

Never gonna get just what [...]
Til we let go of these miseries.

Let go.
Let go.
Let go, let go, let go.

Lamp,

Not sure what you mean.

If you're confusing me with another alias, you can relax on that.

I am me and I've always been me and no one else is me.

I'm me.

A cis teen can get puberty blockers or receive breast reduction surgery.
A trans teen cannot get puberty blockers or receive breast reduction surgery.
You can lie and obfuscate all you want.
But that is a simple fact.

In the Abrahamic religions,
Women are made in a man's image.
Not in their own image.

Most Westerners can't see it because they're born into it and take it for granted.
Muslims have no problem seeing it.
Westerners have no problem seeing it in Muslims.

But these same Westerners can't see it in the Stepford Wives cosmetic surgery that MAGA women have been doing, e.g. Kristi Noem.
They can't see it in the Blonde Bubble Head Barbie look that is a requirement to be a woman talking head on Fox News.

Were you being you when you lied to the Federal Government about who you are?
Or have you wised up, as you've gotten older?

Snoofy,

You're oblivious apparently.

The military has always had gays serving.

Anyone who had to answer questions had to lie about it.

But that's their whole life. Not just military.

You're showing a total lack of empathy and understanding.

Even today there are people who choose to keep it private and that is their business, not yours.

Keep your ugly attitudes to yourself judging gay people for not coming out.

"The military has always had gays serving."

This isn't about the military.

This is about you.

"You're showing a total lack of empathy and understanding."

How much empathy and understanding should I have for people who lie about who they are?

How much empathy and understanding do you have for trans people who want to use the bathroom that matches their gender?

BillJohnson,

One thing Trump is trying to do is kick the transgenders out of the military.

What's your empathy and understanding have to say about that.

Speak,

There's no shortage of people who, saying they dislike gays, is putting it mildly.

I could tell you stories, even in the last 10 years, I have had to deal with discrimination.

While Project 2025 contains many elements I agree with, it will be imperative to not undermine protection for gay people.

In fact I would support a full blown Gay Equality Act.

Transgenders in the military is complicated.

The military is responsible for national defense.

Not everyone is allowed to join.

No it's not complicated. Transgender people have been serving the military without incident.

Laura,

"Transgender people have been serving the military without incident."

Not sure what you think "transgender" actually means.

In 2016 they were allowed to wear uniforms of the opposite gender, I believe, if they transitioned.

Since then it's been reversed, reinstated and reversed again.

Like I said, it's complicated.

I think you're confusing gays serving in the military, which is settled, with your idea that military service is about playing dress-up.

#158 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-08-31 11:22 AM | Reply

You think trans people can be corrected. That they are wrong about who they are.

Why can't gay people be corrected. Why aren't gay people wrong about who they are?

Just answer the question.

"In 2016 they were allowed to wear uniforms of the opposite gender, I believe, if they transitioned."

Yeah.
About that.
You weren't allowed to wear any uniform at all, when you served.
Yet, somehow, you did.

You're oblivious apparently.
The military has always had trans serving.
Anyone who had to answer questions had to lie about it.

Why would it matter if a soldier is gay or not?
Why would it matter if a soldier is trans or not?

If you have different answers for those questions, it probably means you're a hypocrite and a bigot.

#160 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-08-31 11:51 AM | Reply

Snoofy,

"Why would it matter if a soldier is gay or not?"

The opinion, at one time, was the concern they could be open to blackmail.
And unit cohesiveness. In military culture that is imperative.
Until more recently, straight military men couldn't deal with it.

"Why would it matter if a soldier is trans or not?"

All sorts of issues.
Health, medical needs, putting too much emphasis on personal political demands instead of unit cohesiveness.
There's a lot more to it. Like I said, it's complicated.

I answered you.
Now I'm done with you.

Can you say, coincidence?

Gay marriage was already legalized by voters in 31 states before the Supreme Court voted to federally recognize homosexual unions.

You're so desperate.

You're asking a person who claimed he was gay and chose to live as a heterosexual.

If anything, he's the reason why conservatives believe in gay rehabilitation camps for teenagers.

Mental abuse is the cure for homosexuality.
