Don't worry. Trump has a Plan B. If he can't ruin the midterms this way, he'll try another.

There's nothing more dangerous than a frightened dictator.

Good!

Will a patriotic Republican Senate member please raise their hand if they think the SAVE Act is unAmerican and only intended to suppress voting for people they don't think will vote for THEM?

.....(waiting ....waiting ....waiting)

Didn't think so

Trump's hold on the party is slipping.

I suspect that there are a few out there; they just don't want to be identified.

Thune is no hero, he's just not a masochist, either.

He would do this if he could, but he can't because Trump has alienated enough of his Base to cost enough Repubs their jobs if they vote for this.

"You have to have unified support, not only in support of the ultimate goal, which is the SAVE America Act, but on the process to be able to defeat amendments that would undo the legislation in the first place," Thune said. "We can't find a piece of legislation in history that's been passed that way."

But but but Jeffy said 187% of America wants it.

Not to mention he won TWICE with our system. Never hear him utter the words "2016 voter fraud" or "2024 voter fraud." Which has been proven to not even be a rounding error. And most people arrested for committing it are ... Republicans.

Or that a LOT of Republicans vote by mail despite his constant whining about losing in 2020 and WINNING in 2016 and 2024.

No way on God's green earth that the GOP is going to give up the filibuster. If no one else, ask Chuck Grassley about playing the long game in the Senate. Der Dotard is just a visitor in DC; there are many others who live their lives there. They know that sooner or later the GOP will need what the filibuster delivers, and they want that power. Trump or no Trump...

You love showing up to show how you fall for anything. Even your attempt to change the topic of the thread blows up in your face.

"In the 2025 mayoral election in Hamtramck, officials discovered 37 absentee ballots that had not been tabulated on election night. The ballots were reportedly mistakenly separated from the others due to a counting error and later found in the clerk's office.

The chain of custody was broken after non-election officials entered the office. Because of that, the county refused to count the ballots, and a judge later upheld that decision.

Months later, the city terminated her employment. Officials said the firing was tied to "partisan punching bags" with candidates' faces found in the clerk's office, which they said violated neutrality rules for election offices."

Thune has shown he's got a lot more spine than Mitch (looks the other way) McConnell.

Election fraud is just another boogieman MAGA pols feed to their constituents to keep them anxious and angry. Just look at shrimptacosmell.

The whole idea that swaths of legally registered voters should be disenfranchised because a few illegals *might* vote is, of course, ridiculous.

Many of those disenfranchised vote Republican. Married women with their husband's last name, for example.

... and it shouldn't pass. The bill is an illegal attempt to blatantly rig the elections in November.
...
This iis all Trumpers have now, cheating. They can't win on policy, popularity, or competence.

As I see it, the SAVE Act is more than just a "show me your papers" to vote act. If it were just voter ID, I'd have a lower level of objection to it. I show my photo ID each time I vote.

That aside ...

The Act requires the States to turn over to Pres Trump troves of personal information on voters, e.g., party affiliation, driver license ID number, name, address, mother's maiden name, birth date, etc, etc, etc.

Do you, for a minute, think Pres Trump wants that data because he wants to protect it and make it more secure?

And then there is the apparent poll tax it requires, a.k.a., buy a passport.

imo, the name should really be...

Pres Trump trying to SAVE Republicans' derrieres in November via voter suppression Act .

Hey...at least I'm not alone in my views on mail-in ballots.

Trump wants them banned, too.

I was ahead of the curve.

A month before the 2020 election I warned that mass mail-in voting was going to create chaos and controversy.

And it did.

The Capitol break-in didn't happen in a vacuum. It happened after millions of Americans had lost confidence in the election results.

Absentee ballots for people who genuinely can't get to the polls are reasonable.

Otherwise, if you can vote in person, early voting gives everyone plenty of opportunity and removes any claim of voter suppression.

Everyone who votes by mail-in ballot loves it.

The paranoid idiots who lose sleep over it are a small minority.

STFU, Bill. You party-poop every room you walk into.

I remain to be convinced that using Pres Trump as a rational reason why your opinion may be correct may not be the best tactic.

Jus' a suggestion ...

Trump also wants no transgender athletes in women's sports and no gender-affirming surgeries on minors.

This makes so much sense but it won't pass.

I pray that God intercedes and saves America from itself, protects women and defends children.

My county is over 5k square miles. The biggest city isn't over 100k. It's rural af and most people live in remote areas. The roads aren't great.

It's because of fucks like Bill that are why we can't have nice things. He doesn't even fuck for fun, so fuck him.

Lamp,

Trump and I agree on this.

That seems perfectly rational to me.

You may not agree, and that's fine.

But I'm not ashamed of it, if that's what you're suggesting I should be.

I'm not some rabid supporter of Trump. I just happen to agree with him on this.

Hey you agree with the world's most infamous liar! Go you!

You correctly predicted that if trump lost he would point to anything to say it was fraudulent because he would rather attack democracy than admit he lost. And after 6 years he couldnt scrape up any proof at all.

Lamp,

"Look at Utah"

#20.

I'm not going down that rabbit hole again like I have over and over.

Most of the states who use mail-in ballots heavily are dem controlled and have never had to do a recount due to sufficiently large enough margins.

The idea that "mail-in ballots work fine" if the margin between the candidates results are large, you can't actually say it worked fine.

You don't actually know without a forced recount where issues come to light. Otherwise, problems will not be found.

That's as far as I going.

Utah was the only rep controlled state.

Like I said, it's great so long as you don't have a close election where the quirks come to light.
