The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the main provision of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which helped ensure congressional districts represented minority constituents. The move could open the door for Republican led states to redistrict even more to gain more seats.

This is a deeply shameful decision by the Supreme Court.

What's important for New Yorkers to know right now is that the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act still holds in our state. We have strong protections against racial disenfranchisement - regardless of the Court's whitewashing.[image or embed]

How does it "evicerates" voting rights?

The issue is it doesn't allow for primarily racial representation. In a color blind society this is what you'd want, but American "Lumpers" don't want colorblind.

The GOP goal has long been to return voting rights to only white male property owners and this is yet another step toward that goal.
