Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the main provision of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which helped ensure congressional districts represented minority constituents. The move could open the door for Republican led states to redistrict even more to gain more seats.

This is a deeply shameful decision by the Supreme Court.

What's important for New Yorkers to know right now is that the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act still holds in our state. We have strong protections against racial disenfranchisement - regardless of the Court's whitewashing.[image or embed]

How does it "evicerates" voting rights?

The issue is it doesn't allow for primarily racial representation. In a color blind society this is what you'd want, but American "Lumpers" don't want colorblind.

Thread needs more Et_Al who railed against Section V Pre-clearance because it has been sixty years and is no longer needed.

Ah, Chinese trolls who pretend that racism no longer exits in the US.

What will they think of next, Chinese trolls who pretend to be liberals while kissing the Rwing's ass at every opportunity?

It's already been done.

The GOP goal has long been to return voting rights to only white male property owners and this is yet another step toward that goal.

If it's a good law, all states should be subject to it.

Funny how "States Rights" always means the right to racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and transphobia.

All states are (were) subject to it.

States with a history of official discrimination in the jurisdiction that affects the right to vote did have extra provisions to prevent them from disenfranchising black and minority voters.

If your state did not have a history of racial discrimination then you had nothing to worry about.

Seeing how happy you are with this trash ruling I am betting your state does have a history of racial discrimination and disenfranchising voters.

You should read The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Era of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander, to at least get a clue.

"In a color blind society this is what you'd want"

True. But it'd take a fool to pretend we're in a color blind society, and not still living through the historical effects of racism. In most cities, the home values still change radically from one side of the redline to the other.

In addition, the mere equation of capitalism states those with wealth and time will create ever-widening chasms between the wealthiest and the poorest.

In the last decade or so, the market value of my house has doubled. During the same time period, similar houses 15 blocks East of me have risen only 30%-50%. Anyone want to guess the difference?

Now, please wipe that Quaker Oaty remnant of MAGAJesus off your lip.

The Civil Rights legislation of that era, including this law, is something oldtime Southern Dems and Reps since Nixon's time have seen as representing social changes they they are still intellectually and psychologically incapable of fully processing.

Time to eviscerate the so-called "supreme" court.

America has been around for 250 years.

For about 200 of those years white men could do whatever they pleased and everyone else had to get the fuck out of the way.

Unfortunately. Over the past 50 years minorities, women, people who used to be slaves, people without dicks, people who cut off their dicks, gays, yellow people, red people, Black people, brown people, female people, beta males ... have all been gaining representation and equality and conservative white men can't stand it!

Let's get ourselves back to being a country where a white man without a high school diploma could do better than some minority with a PhD.

Yeehaw!

For about 200 of those years a tiny fraction of white men could do whatever they pleased and everyone else had to get the fuck out of the way.

Unfortunately. Over the past 50 years minorities, women, people who used to be slaves, people without dicks, people who cut off their dicks, gays, yellow people, red people, Black people, brown people, female people ... have all been making the current generation of white men pay for the sins of someone else's ancestors.

Let's get ourselves back to being a country where race and sex don't matter.

Yeehaw!

I think you are lying.

What have you, personally, been required to pay?

If race and sex don't matter, you couldn't have listed race and sex as the characteristics of the people who are doing the victimizing.

If race and sex don't matter, you couldn't have identified the victims as "white" "men."

We have a long way to go before the demographics of government workers, politicians, law enforcement, or other government officials represent America's demographics.

Colorblind == ignoring minorities and ensuring they remain underrepresented.

What's your point.
I thought you didn't care about race any more.
Imagine our surprise that you "not seeing race" lasted about as long as Trump's rape of E. Jean Carroll.

"I think you are lying."

It's vistard. Of course he's lying. If it were not
for all his lies he'd have nothing.

Visitard has to lie to get attention. It's the MAGA way.

Orders from the top. He has to "to create stories so that ... " we will pay attention to the suffering of them poor poor white peoples.
