A towering gold statue of Donald Trump was unveiled at the president's golf course in Doral, Florida, during an emotionally charged ceremony presided over by an Evangelical pastor.

Placed on a pedestal in a clearing of palm trees, the 22foot colossus depicts the president thrusting his fist into the air, echoing his defiant gesture after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"At Wednesday's dedication ceremony, the sculpture was draped in white and blue fabric, resembling a Greek toga. It was encircled by a few dozen guests seated in chairs, as Pastor Mark Burns " a member of Pastors for Trump " spoke at a podium.

"Today at Trump National Doral Miami, we witnessed an unforgettable moment," Burns wrote on social media before emphasizing that the gilded effigy was not a false idol."

It seems eerie how Jesus from 2,000 years ago was able to predict low-bandwidth mean-spirited people would worship someone like Trump, and revel in his golden idols.

Then again, I guess people have always been like that. Jesus was simply noticing it, and saying how bad it is to get conned by them.

And Jesus is just one of the many throughout history who warned us about this kind of leader.

Self-flagellation is a Medieval Catholic tradition due to a misreading of Paul, who was speaking symbolically about the relationship of spirit to flesh... as is pretty obvious in the original language.

Pedophile priests in Catholic history since the 11th century are more real; they were under Canon Law, and suffered lighter punishment than local law would have given them.

DJT, of course, would never participate in the former, but we have countless women testifying to the latter.

The topic of all of those ads? Then-CA Attorney General Kamala Harris' 2019 response to a question about a Trump administration dictate on gender-affirming (read: trans) care for federal inmates.

And the amount of money the Harris campaign spent countering those ads in the swing states during NFL and NCAA football games? You know, to point out the truth that she was simply responding to a question about a Trump administration dictate on gender-affirming for federal inmates? To counter the deceptive, the lying-by-omission ads run by Trump & company?

Zero dollars

The efficacy of this strategy was born out election night, 2024, when Steve Kornacki was calling individual counties (starting with Pennsylvania) and highlighting that the Harris/Walz ticket was falling short of votes as opposed to the votes in the 2020 election for the Biden/Harris ticket. His reporting was, in effect, a death by 1,000 cuts for Harris/Walz.

Trump & company knew that all it would take would be the suppression of Biden votes in 2024 by just a point or two for Trump to carry those counties, all 7 swing states and, ultimately, the election. They judged, correctly, that men - men of color and white - would be turned off enough by the "pro-trans" Harris that they voted for Trump, or didn't vote at all.

Either way, mission accomplished.

Nothing there about wondering why millions of Americans either sat out 2024 or voted for Trump.
