Court Rejects Alabama House Map, Unfair to Black Voters

A panel of federal judges on Tuesday rejected Alabama's effort to use a new voting map for the November midterm elections, saying that the districts discriminated against Black people and could not be used so shortly before a vote.

SCOTUS does not seem to be the least bit concerned about the active return by Republicans to the Jim Crow era.

Indeed, SCOTUS seems to be actively encouraging that transition.

The important one of the two cited is SCOTUS.

And SCOTUS has shown itself to be more politically involved, instead of judicially involved, of late.

And why would Alabama want to indulge in racism so late in the election cycle, other than to rig things for the far right, totally white.

I do agree this reversal is likely going to have a negative impact on black representation.

But four years ago Virginia adopted a redistricting system that many people on both sides praised as fair and balanced.

Then this year Democrats suddenly decided the maps were "unfair" and pushed for districts that heavily favored Democrats, reducing Republicans to one district while Democrats controlled the other ten.

You know good and well that does not reflect Virginia's actual political makeup.

So now other states are following VA's lead, with the support of the Supreme Court ruling, and moving back in the opposite direction.

Democrats have only themselves to blame.
