The FBI Redacted Trump's Name in the Epstein Files (August 2025)
www.bloomberg.com

... What happened next kicked off a new phase in the Epstein saga. As I reported in the March 28th edition of FOIA Files, Patel directed FBI special agents from the New York and Washington field offices to join the bureau's FOIA employees at its sprawling Central Records Complex in Winchester, Virginia and another building a few miles away.

They were instructed to search for and review every single Epstein-related document and determine what could be released. That included a mountain of material accumulated by the FBI over nearly two decades, including grand jury testimony, prosecutors' case files, as well as tens of thousands of pages of the bureau's own investigative files on Epstein. It was a herculean task that involved as many as 1,000 FBI agents and other personnel pulling all-nighters while poring through more than 100,000 documents, according to a July letter from Senator Dick Durbin to Bondi. ...

Democrats are going to come to regret this': After Epstein vote, Trump ready to attack
www.politico.com

... The White House is frustrated about being backed into a corner on the Epstein vote. They plan to punish Democrats for it.

The Trump administration, on its back foot following brutal election results and its failed effort to quash a House vote to release the Epstein files, is now planning to go on the attack.

"The Democrats are going to come to regret this," said a White House official, granted anonymity to discuss the strategy. "Let's start with Stacey Plaskett. You think we're not going to make a scene of this?"

Documents released from Epstein's estate showed the nonvoting delegate from the U.S. Virgin Islands texting with Epstein during a congressional hearing in 2019. In those texts, Epstein appeared to try to influence the questions she asked from the dais.

Her office did not respond to a request for comment, but a staffer told The Washington Post that Plaskett had received texts from Epstein, along with "staff, constituents and the public at large," during a hearing. The aide also said Plaskett has made her disgust over Epstein's behavior clear.

The administration's offensive comes amid intense frustration from the president and his top staffers who say a few wayward Republicans worked with Democrats to push a "distraction" to the forefront. In addition, White House officials fear no amount of disclosure will be enough to satisfy a significant part of their base. ...

Trump Blows Off Claims of Lucrative Property Deals in Saudi Arabia
www.thedailybeast.com

... The president insisted he has nothing to do with his family business. ...

But as they met in the Oval Office to discuss new pacts on defense and artificial intelligence, Trump was asked if it was appropriate for his family to be doing business in Saudi Arabia while he is president.

"I have nothing to do with the family business," he said, visibly annoyed at the question. ...

The president's family has numerous ties to Saudi Arabia, mostly through real estate licensing and investment.

This week, for instance, the Trump Organization and its Saudi-based development partner, Dar Al Arkan, announced a project allowing cryptocurrency investors to buy into Trump-branded real estate projects.

The Trump Organization is headed by the president's sons, Don Jr. and Eric. The company also has Trump-branded projects in the capital of Riyadh, a Trump Tower planned in the port city of Jeddah, and ties with LIV Golf, the league backed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund.

Meanwhile, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is married to his daughter, Ivanka, runs a private equity firm that has taken $2 billion from a fund led by the crown prince.

However, Trump told reporters on Tuesday: "What my family does is fine. They do business all over. They've done very little with Saudi Arabia ...

More from the article ...

... The Times obtained a recording of a call during which officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed to state health departments that the ongoing measles outbreak at the border of Arizona and Utah is a continuation of the explosive outbreak in West Texas that began in mid- to late-January. That is, the two massive outbreaks are being caused by the same subtype of measles virus.

This is a significant link that hasn't previously been reported despite persistent questions from journalists and concerns from health experts, particularly in light of Canada losing its elimination status last week. The loss of an elimination status means that measles will once again be considered endemic to the US, an embarrassing public health backslide for a vaccine-preventable disease.

The massive outbreak in Texas began in mid- to late-January and was declared over on August 18. In all, there were 762 cases of measles confirmed in the outbreak. Utah and Arizona started seeing some measles cases in June, but those outbreaks appeared to take off in August. To date, Utah and Arizona have reported 212 cases.

The finding that the outbreaks are linked means there's been continuous circulation within the country for about 10 months. If the same measles virus subtype from the outbreaks -- dubbed 9171 -- continues to spread and surpasses the 12-month mark in January 2026, the US will lose its elimination status. The status is earned by going 12 months without continuous circulation and is lost when yearlong circulation resumes. The US obtained its elimination status in 2000 after grueling, decades-long vaccination campaigns. ...
