Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

After months of House Republicans ducking a vote to release files tied to the Justice Department's investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, the House almost unanimously approved legislation Tuesday that would force those documents into the open.

Before announcing that he would direct Bondi to investigate Epstein's ties to Bill Clinton, he claimed that Democrats had fabricated a slew of sinister allegations inserted into the files that would frame him and other Republicans. To me, that basically implies his own DOJ and FBI engaged in similar behavior, just with Democratic names swapped in. With Trump, it so often comes back to projection: the very things he accuses others of doing are the things he's actually doing himself.

This is why he's commanding Bondi to open an investigation into Bill Clinton and Democrats' ties to Epstein, which would justify Bondi refusing to release the files pending an ongoing investigation.

The irony being that his own FBI Director, Kash Patel, testified to congress that there's no evidence that anyone other than Epstein abused children, meaning there wouldn't be any more prosecutions and that the case was closed. This also harckens back to his first impeachment, when he held Ukraine's funding hostage in order to convince Zelenski to "simply announce the opening of an investigation into Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and Burisma." No actual investigation was needed, just the announcement, which he seems to be doing here with Epstein and Clinton.

Your entire defense of Trump rests on pretending the only possible standard of guilt is "caught on video abusing a child."

That's not a defense; that's you raising the bar so high that nothing he actually did can ever count.

Trump already confessed to sexual assault in his own words, on tape, in front of the entire country. He bragged about behavior that is literally a crime. Multiple women gave matching accounts. The pattern is clear to everyone except people determined not to see it.

So yes, when someone with that history chooses to socialize with Epstein for years, it's relevant. You don't get to erase Trump's own admissions just because they're politically inconvenient.

If the standard you demand for Trump is "must be filmed assaulting a minor," then of course you'll never find him guilty of anything. But that says more about your threshold than his innocence.

The files are most likely to show that Trump abetted the continuance of felony behavior: actively, passively, or both.

I think it's both. As long as the files are not released, it's both. As long as there's suspicion the files have been tampered with it's both.

It wasn't rape. It was sexual assault

Oh, and while the jury didn't buy it (in your words), the judge in the case clarified it so that even knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers can understand:

U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan has stated that while the jury in E. Jean Carroll's civil case did not find Donald Trump liable for "rape" within the narrow definition of the New York Penal Law, it did find that he "raped" her in the common, everyday understanding of the word.
Is this just a further extension of your (and many, many others) defense that "a 15 year old girl is just an 'underaged woman'"?

#49 Nonsense. Rape, as defined in various state laws around the country are clear what rape is - non-consensual penetration - , but remain fairly quiet that non-consensual penetration can only be with a penis

State laws define rape differently, but generally, it involves non-consensual penetration (oral, ----, -------) by force, threat, coercion, or when the victim is incapacitated (drunk, drugged, unconscious, or too young/disabled to consent). Key variations include whether physical force is required, if psychological coercion counts, and if non-penetrative unwanted touching is included, with some states moving to broader definitions focusing on the absence of consent, not just force, covering same-sex encounters and spousal rape.
Oops.

Perhaps you should stop thinking only with your penis.

Way too many eyes and ears for any scrubbing discrepancies to be "overlooked."

Plus, 'tis going to be damn near impossible to scrub such material in a complete and, most importantly, a competent manner.

As for competence, well, from the Trump and his ghouls, all one has to do is read the judge's rebuff to the orange menace's Lindsay Halligan regarding the Comey indictment, to get a real close-up look into the competency of the Trump and his minions.

So, the only Congressman to vote against releasing the Epstein files hails from Louisiana, Islamophobe Clay Higgins (R-LA). See @54 above to read about his Christian, brotherly love.

The execrable Clay Higgins previously introduced legislation restricting Muslim access to the al-Aqsa Mosque in Israel. (WTF should he care about a mosque thousands and thousands of miles away from his dirt-poor, violence-ridden plantation state which ranks at the bottom of the US for literacy, healthcare, and the environment?)

Louisiana native House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) went on an all-expenses paid trip to Israel this year, and it was to an illegal settlement where he was royally feted. This drove Marjorie-Taylor Greene (R-GA) nuts, who accused AIPAC of interfering in US politics.

Is there something in the Louisiana water besides industrial pollution and flesh-eating bacteria?

Rsty,

"It's really simple, Bill. Do you believe Trump when he said that he routinely commits sexual assault against women?"

You must be talking about the Access Hollywood tape from 2005:

"I'm automatically attracted to beautiful [women]. I just start kissing them. ... I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab 'em by the -----. You can do anything."

What else would you be referring to?

To me, that doesn't prove anything beyond the fact that he's a blowhard. It was a stupid thing to say. It's so over-the-top and self-damning that I don't take it as a literal confession that he "routinely commits sexual assault."

Do I believe him? No.

If women come forward with credible evidence, I'll listen. I know many are afraid to do that, and that's unfortunate.

But it's going to take more than that tape and what I've read so far to convince me he's out there molesting women. With his wealth and power, he shouldn't have any difficulty finding willing women.

"AI Overview
Studies and reports from humanitarian organizations indicate that the Trump administration's significant cuts and eventual dissolution of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have already resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and risk millions more in the coming years due to a halt in food and medicine aid programs.

The "America First" foreign policy led to the abrupt halting and cancellation of most foreign assistance awards. This has resulted in a severe funding crisis for global humanitarian efforts, the worst the UN has ever observed."

President Donald Trump may have acquiesced to demands that give his approval for the Jeffrey Epstein files to be released, but he is not forgiving Republicans for not saving him from the embarrassment of backing down.

According to a report from Politico's Dasha Burns, the president believes the GOP leadership was outmaneuvered by Democrats, with some White House insiders also fuming."

Weren't you one of the ones spouting off about how Biden undoubtedly would have released the files had there been anything incriminating against Trump? And the fact that he didn't absolves Trump?

Let's see how consistent you are, considering if there was anything in the files that would exonerate Trump, he would have released the files earlier this year. No Maxwell appeal, no ongoing investigation, just Kash Patel declaring there's no evidence to warrant further prosecutions, which according to Trump is false.

Alex,

"We're done. You're an absolute monster."

I have a question for the straight guys who read this.

How many of you have been with a woman, started touching or initiating foreplay, and did not stop everything to formally ask, "Before we go any further, may I put my finger in there?"

I'm not talking about forceful or "up to the knuckle."

I mean the normal early stages of intimacy feeling around, trying to see if she's receptive, maybe getting a little of her essence on your finger.

Is that rape?

If she pushes you away, were you "raping" her in that moment? Or was it a signal to stop, which you then respected?

There's a difference between initiating and forcing.

One is how human intimacy usually works. The other is a crime.

If we pretend those are the same thing, then every man on this site is suddenly a felon.

You don't ask. You make the move. But if she doesn't want it then she will make that obvious. She will push hand away or say something.

You don't have to verbally ask. And that doesn't put her at risk.

There has never been any confusion about that.

As I suspected, the answer is "No, you would not care."

On the White House lawn, Trump could rape her, Epstein her underage daughter and son, and then chop off their heads with a butter knife and then repeat the process with their corpses, and he could still count on your vote. Lack of "penile penetration" is just what you use to minimize the suffering of others and make you feel better about your utter lack of moral standards for supporting an adjudicated rapist who admitted as much when he refused to testify.

What I mean is, something like this could create international fallout.

For centuries, keeping powerful people's sexual proclivities quiet has been part of the unspoken code.

Some call it discretion, some call it snitching when it gets broken.

My personal opinion doesn't matter here about right and wrong.

The simple reality is if you start airing out the private lives of high level figures, you can make it a lot harder to get access, cooperation, or information from them in the future.

There's a reason to not go around exposing everyone's secrets. It closes doors.

This was never a dead story because people like Bongino, Patel and even Vance and Trump to a lesser extent actively kept it alive during the Biden years. Once they obtained power over the investigation they could have allowed SDNY to continue their investigation into Epstein's coconspirators but they decided to prematurely close the investigation which meant they could no longer hide behind it being an active investigation.
It should be no surprise that the public now expects them to do what they said they would do and provide answers to questions such as this one taken from 2021 tweet from JD Vance, "What possible interest would the US government have in keeping Epstein's clients secret?" Most of the people in the country expect the government to do what Patel said in 2023 and "roll out the black book" to "let us know who the pedophiles are."

Of course, that's not a position I've taken at all.

You're one of those who gets pissed at a judge for "misgendering" a convicted------------. You don't give a rat's ass about any of these victims. All you care about is scoring political points.

"You don't give a rat's ass about any of these victims."

What does it look like in your small world, when someone cares about victims?
You can't tell us because you don't know.
The only victim you've ever cared about is yourself.

People need to stop pretending there is a moral high road here.

Everyone in politics knew Epstein was a POS with an island with these parties for many many years prior to him getting busted.

Nobody in the power structure found out what a POS Epstein was when he was arrested and it all became public. They all knew for a long long time.

They didn't care.

Once he was busted, references to "files" and the fact Epstein was talking to law enforcement....THEN it became a public spectacle. At that point, it becomes a political weapon.

A weapon Trump has used along with everyone else.

The victims are practically forgotten. They should be the center of this. But they aren't even in the circle, much less the center.

Trump is in the center. He wanted to be there but plenty of people on both sides PLACED HIM IN THE CENTER which, of course is where wanted to be anyway.

Republicans have certainly made it clear they can't find the moral high road on the map of America.
The rest of us have no problem releasing every unredacted word of the Epstein Files.

You pretending to be an arbiter of morals is cute though. As a reminder, here's your morals:
nobody cared Epstein and his friend were pedos and rapists

Without paying any attention to the speedballing energizer bunny.......I'm not trying to minimize the lack of morals on the part of the republican party.

I'm saying there is no moral high road. I realize the intrigue is always an attempt to do that......pave a moral high road by attacking the other side.

But with Epstein.........it's silly to pretend there is one.

The moral high ground is occupied by all the rich people and politicians who didn't ---- underage girls.

I know you can't fathom that ------- underaged girls is not morally acceptable. I know that's why you're a Republican.

This conversation is over, but your blubbering will continue unabated, for reasons you probably ought to talk to your priest about, except he's probably one too.

I'm sure some reasonable people would love to weigh in on this but when a single poster, who everyone here reviles, is sucking up all the oxygen....it's hard to get a word in edge-wise.

But if someone who isn't a drug addled POS psycho wants to weigh in....that would be great.

If there is a moral high road.....show me that road, and tell me who's on it.

Exactly.

When did anybody even pretend to care about Epstein's victims until that POS's mugshot was on CNN?

They knew about them......for a couple decades in some cases. When did they start giving a ---- (sorry...PRETEND to give a ----)?

Answer? when it became a public spectacle.

Simply not engaging in the raping and pedophilia isn't a pass to travel on the moral high ground because you KNEW about it and did nothing.

and if you're wondering why folks you admire in politics haven't screamed about this much nor screamed sooner.........this is why

The assumption is that folks are worried they will get placed on that island or near Epstein in some way.

That might accurately describe some for sure but I believe most of the hesitation and apparent hypocrisy isn't based on that.

It's based on the reality that it's going to be obvious to the public these folks KNEW what was going on and didn't care enough about the victims enough to do something.

Not until now............LOL

"Simply not engaging in the raping and pedophilia isn't a pass to travel on the moral high ground"

Setting aside the fact that there's a moral difference between raping people and not raping people, just in its own right:

"because you KNEW about it and did nothing."

Did nothing? Back to lying I see. Lying is a drug Republicans can't quit.

Republicans did not do nothing. Republicans did important, meaningful things. Republicans sent Congress into recess to keep the Epstein Files secret. Republicans shut down the government to keep the Epstein Files secret.

And you expect us to accept those Republicans are cut from the same moral cloth as the Democrats. Democrats who didn't send Congress into recess to keep the Epstein Files secret. Democrats who didn't shut down the government to keep Epstein Files secret.

I suspect Republicans may not be able to understand what "morals" are. In fact, Republicans keep insisting "morals" don't play any role in the decision to release, or keep secret, the Epstein Files.

Republicans have embraced the "moral relativism" they used to accuse others of. Which of course has always been Republican's biggest "tell."

" Biden refused to order his attorney general to prosecute trump because it would have been against tradition"

Um, Jack Smith would like a word ...

#145 | Posted by BellRinger

Jack smith was brought on after CONGRESS investigated and found too much evidence to ignore. Garland dragged his feet the whole way and starting the prosecution 2 years too late is why trump is president instead of in jail.

#173 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2025-11-19 01:07 PM | Reply

This is one of the dumbest posts of all time. And let me guess, none of the Epstein file dirt was released when Biden had them for four years because it would have been against tradition as well? Moron! Your party tried to kill him.

#154 | Posted by fishpaw

Biden let trump go on esptein just like he let trump go on the insurrection, just like he let trump go on the 11 counts of felony obstruction left over from the mueller investigation. Garland could have taken trump down for MANY things, but biden and garland's strategy was to be nice and hope trump would just go away. They thought there was no way the party would remain loyal to trump after jan 6th. Those naive old men didn't realize how fascist and treasonous your party has become.

" Jack smith was brought on"

He was assigned special prosecutor status even though such status is created by Congress on an individual basis and Congress didn't give Smith that status. It was given by the Biden DOJ so it could pretend that it wasn't going after Trump. Garland didn't need to go after Trump directly. Dedicated foot soldiers like Bragg, Willis, Smith, James, Merchan and others were happy to do his dirty work for him.

Why would anyone want to pretend? Trump wasn't victim of a single piece of lawfare; he was simply subject to the law.

Which reminds me: what ever happened to the Top Secret papers Trump didn't return to the government?

-The worse side always says both sides are equally bad.

wrong on so many levels

there is no "worse side" saying anything.

I am not saying both sides are equally bad.

I'm saying there is no moral high road considering the widespread knowledge of this degenerate's actions for the past 2 decades.

You're not smart enough to grasp that very very very very very very simple point.

-when you use absolute language like "nobody."

That's for effect. Of course there are no absolutes but I'm still daring everyone to paint me a picture of the road and who's on it.

If all one has is "yeah yeah yea......but you're just covering for the GOP" --------.....then you've got nothing. I'm not covering for anyone. I'm not minimizing anyone's bad acts.

I'm simply adding some bad acts to the overall situation by pointing out that Epstein was a known(by everyone) bad guy for a long long time.

People who always voted to release the Epstein Files are on the moral high ground.
People who only just recently voted to release the Epstein Files are the low life Republicans with no morals.
And then there's Clay Higgins, who still voted against release; the only of the cowed-by-public-opinion Republicans to adhere to his "morals."

The elite pedophiles served by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell (who were also most likely videotaped, photographed, and then blackmailed) seemed to prefer young white girls. None of the victims that have come forward have been women of color.

Ergo, these sexual predators were also racists (who have never been prosecuted for statutory rape or any offense).

This saga is not only about these two sinister sex traffickers peddling influence and committing extortion by abusing young girls, but virulent racism as well: www.thesun.co.uk

"No schwartzer shiksas for Bubba, OK, Ghisliane?"

"When does anybody ever ask for a schwartzer, Jeffie-poo?"
