After months of House Republicans ducking a vote to release files tied to the Justice Department's investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, the House almost unanimously approved legislation Tuesday that would force those documents into the open.

Before announcing that he would direct Bondi to investigate Epstein's ties to Bill Clinton, he claimed that Democrats had fabricated a slew of sinister allegations inserted into the files that would frame him and other Republicans. To me, that basically implies his own DOJ and FBI engaged in similar behavior, just with Democratic names swapped in. With Trump, it so often comes back to projection: the very things he accuses others of doing are the things he's actually doing himself.

This is why he's commanding Bondi to open an investigation into Bill Clinton and Democrats' ties to Epstein, which would justify Bondi refusing to release the files pending an ongoing investigation.

The irony being that his own FBI Director, Kash Patel, testified to congress that there's no evidence that anyone other than Epstein abused children, meaning there wouldn't be any more prosecutions and that the case was closed. This also harckens back to his first impeachment, when he held Ukraine's funding hostage in order to convince Zelenski to "simply announce the opening of an investigation into Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and Burisma." No actual investigation was needed, just the announcement, which he seems to be doing here with Epstein and Clinton.

Your entire defense of Trump rests on pretending the only possible standard of guilt is "caught on video abusing a child."

That's not a defense; that's you raising the bar so high that nothing he actually did can ever count.

Trump already confessed to sexual assault in his own words, on tape, in front of the entire country. He bragged about behavior that is literally a crime. Multiple women gave matching accounts. The pattern is clear to everyone except people determined not to see it.

So yes, when someone with that history chooses to socialize with Epstein for years, it's relevant. You don't get to erase Trump's own admissions just because they're politically inconvenient.

If the standard you demand for Trump is "must be filmed assaulting a minor," then of course you'll never find him guilty of anything. But that says more about your threshold than his innocence.

The files are most likely to show that Trump abetted the continuance of felony behavior: actively, passively, or both.

I think it's both. As long as the files are not released, it's both. As long as there's suspicion the files have been tampered with it's both.

It wasn't rape. It was sexual assault

Oh, and while the jury didn't buy it (in your words), the judge in the case clarified it so that even knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers can understand:

U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan has stated that while the jury in E. Jean Carroll's civil case did not find Donald Trump liable for "rape" within the narrow definition of the New York Penal Law, it did find that he "raped" her in the common, everyday understanding of the word.
Is this just a further extension of your (and many, many others) defense that "a 15 year old girl is just an 'underaged woman'"?

#49 Nonsense. Rape, as defined in various state laws around the country are clear what rape is - non-consensual penetration - , but remain fairly quiet that non-consensual penetration can only be with a penis

State laws define rape differently, but generally, it involves non-consensual penetration (oral, anal, vaginal) by force, threat, coercion, or when the victim is incapacitated (drunk, drugged, unconscious, or too young/disabled to consent). Key variations include whether physical force is required, if psychological coercion counts, and if non-penetrative unwanted touching is included, with some states moving to broader definitions focusing on the absence of consent, not just force, covering same-sex encounters and spousal rape.
Oops.

Perhaps you should stop thinking only with your penis.

Way too many eyes and ears for any scrubbing discrepancies to be "overlooked."

Plus, 'tis going to be damn near impossible to scrub such material in a complete and, most importantly, a competent manner.

As for competence, well, from the Trump and his ghouls, all one has to do is read the judge's rebuff to the orange menace's Lindsay Halligan regarding the Comey indictment, to get a real close-up look into the competency of the Trump and his minions.

So, the only Congressman to vote against releasing the Epstein files hails from Louisiana, Islamophobe Clay Higgins (R-LA). See @54 above to read about his Christian, brotherly love.

The execrable Clay Higgins previously introduced legislation restricting Muslim access to the al-Aqsa Mosque in Israel. (WTF should he care about a mosque thousands and thousands of miles away from his dirt-poor, violence-ridden plantation state which ranks at the bottom of the US for literacy, healthcare, and the environment?)

Louisiana native House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) went on an all-expenses paid trip to Israel this year, and it was to an illegal settlement where he was royally feted. This drove Marjorie-Taylor Greene (R-GA) nuts, who accused AIPAC of interfering in US politics.

Is there something in the Louisiana water besides industrial pollution and flesh-eating bacteria?

Rsty,

"It's really simple, Bill. Do you believe Trump when he said that he routinely commits sexual assault against women?"

You must be talking about the Access Hollywood tape from 2005:

"I'm automatically attracted to beautiful [women]. I just start kissing them. ... I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything."

What else would you be referring to?

To me, that doesn't prove anything beyond the fact that he's a blowhard. It was a stupid thing to say. It's so over-the-top and self-damning that I don't take it as a literal confession that he "routinely commits sexual assault."

Do I believe him? No.

If women come forward with credible evidence, I'll listen. I know many are afraid to do that, and that's unfortunate.

But it's going to take more than that tape and what I've read so far to convince me he's out there molesting women. With his wealth and power, he shouldn't have any difficulty finding willing women.
