That story should haunt Democrats heading into 2026. The mirror image of the 2022 environment is now setting up around them: Trump's approval underwater, inflation cooking, Democrats overperforming in special elections, the generic ballot tilted blue.

The lesson of 2022 wasn't that wave conditions don't matter anymore. They still do. It was that they don't reliably translate into wave results. And, what's more, the infrastructure for blunting waves has changed since then.

Just after midnight on May 20, the South Carolina House voted 74-37 to redraw the state's only Democratic-held congressional district, a move urged personally by President Donald Trump, replacing it with one designed to elect a Republican in November.

That is only one piece of a much greater national effort underway. Democrats are waiting for the wave. Republicans are building the sea wall. ...

Nonsense. I'm for it. What level? What's your expect dent in the deficit? There's $2 trillion to cover just to stop adding debt, in a government where most programs have extensive underfunding. You need $4 trillion to cover the federal infrastructure backlog. $500 billion for deferred maintenance. $10 trillion in discretionary unfunded priorities. There's also that $40 trillion debt.

100% confiscation, and liquidation, of all US billionaires gets you $6.6 trillion. It's enough to cover the current deficit for 3 years.

It's not a defense of billionaires to say whatever tax scheme you come up with is pissing in the wind of a far larger structural problem.

I absolutely do not lower my expectations because she is a woman, and AOC is too liberal for my taste. However, there have been MANY men in the primary with less experience than she currently has and so I will not discredit her simply for that.

I'm saying she doesn't have what it will take to be POTUS and we'd be incredibly foolish to elect her to that position.

NONE of this will change until Campaign Finance Reform makes it change.

And there is NO chance of getting that with GOP control of Gov, and only plausibly better chance with Dems in control.

But since this is a 2 Party system, the only somewhat better chance is the only possible chance for Change.

The fact that your views rely on a political reality that is DOA is why you're not taken seriously.

Without gaining significant support beyond a single election cycle, you'll never get the political capital to push through meaningful tax increases.

But "progressives" make the same mistake every single time the Dems take a majority - they try to cram everything through while acting as if you're immoral and the devil if you don't agree 1,000%.

Some people live a very sheltered life. In my life I had found myself in some pretty strange situations. Sometimes involving showers and children. Mostly with bathing suits on but sometimes not.

But I never had the urge to rape any of the children involved. Don't think the thought ever crossed my mind. But then again I have a healthy mind. Not everyone does. (See lfthndthrds for example)
