Like Donner said, glass half full or empty kind of thing.
My hometown. Growing up late 70s and 80s.
Facts of life during that time....
I could utter word "ni$$er, ----, ------, -----, ----", etc. without even looking over my shoulder.
Minorities, ----sexuals, other challenged individuals.....completely and openly shunned and ridiculed.
Today? thousand and thousands of miles of progress. mixed race couples, ----sexuals living in the open, much better attention, empathy, help, resources, being provided to folks who need it. They were written off back when I was a kid. Not saying racism went away entirely but it's so much better today.
The grade school I attended was a falling down completely piece of ----. Run on a miniscule budget. Today? 100% better situation for kids. When I was a kid, I saw teachers, priests, nuns openly ridicule kids who couldn't read. today? We can diagnose dyslexia and help those kids and remove the horrible stigma they carried when I was a kid.
Drugs and alcohol addiction? misunderstood, undiagnosed......and went unaddressed. Today? Managed much much better.
Zero appreciation for environmental hazards and concerns when I was a kid. Farms and industry polluted like hell with zero concerns. today? 100% improved.
I could go on and on but I guess all that's nonsense to you. I grew up in a rough place I guess (even though I didn't know it) and my kids had it much much better. And their success shows it.
" ... in this term Trump had approved just 23 percent of disaster requests from states whose governor and two senators are Democrats, compared to approving 89 percent of requests from states with Republicans in those positions."
See? Everything's equal!
