OpEd - There are some big important reasons for people not having kids. Some of these reasons are biological, like massive rises in infertility. Some are personal preferences.
Because birds and bees do it and if it wasn't for economics a lot more people would be inclined to do it.

Disagree, people in the aggregate aren't have sex any longer.
People Have Been Having Less Sex"whether They're Teenagers or 40-Somethings
Among the young, social media, gaming and "rough sex" may contribute to this trend
A recent study evaluating what is happening in the U.S. has added to the pile of evidence, showing declines from 2009 to 2018 in all forms of partnered sexual activity, including ------------- intercourse, ---- sex and partnered ------------. The findings show that adolescents report less solo ------------ as well.
Btw, this thread wasn't ostensibly supposed to be responding to a political question, or was it? The people who don't understand why a large # of recent generations don't aspire to have kids, are from all over the demographic and political spectrum.
Population Geography was one of my favorite graduate degree courses at UCLA. Most Baby Boomers around the world, except in the theocracies of the MidEast and in the poorest least developed countries elsewhere in the world saw the TFR of their child bearing age cohorts fall to below replacement level.
Is that predictive of impending catastrophe? Possibly. But the common elements are: 1) ready availability of birth control; 2) fear of the prospect of global overpopulation's potential dangers to the environment; and 3) the cost and stress raising a family comfortably in today's fast-paced and competitive world.
There could be other environmental factors affecting human hormones & fertility:
"Pollutants such as endocrine disruptors found in pesticides, plastics, and air pollution can interfere with hormonal balance, disrupt ovulation, and impair sperm quality."

Suggestion for JD Vance, if truly concerned about U.S. fertility issues: Be more concerned about these environmental factors than about "cat ladies".
