Markets Plummeting; Trump Recession Right Around the Corner

Stocks dropped on Monday as the selling pressures that dragged Wall Street last week persisted, with investors worried about an economic slowdown after President Donald Trump didn't rule out a recession with U.S. tariffs being implemented.

We have an incompetent, cognitively challenged, mentally ill person in charge of the economy.

Of course it's going to crash.

The crash was predicted as being inevitable if Trump got back in.

Because he was and is an incompetent, cognitively challenged, mentally ill sumbitch.

#2 | Posted by Zed at 2025-03-10 11:14 AM

Oh, yeah....And Trump will start a war, too.

#3 | Posted by Zed at 2025-03-10 11:15 AM

This is Trump flunkies crashing the market so that they can reap the inevitable rebound.

Much like the tariff threats, it's all market manipulation.

Get used to it.

"Sure, there'll be a little short-term pain," said the president as he teed up on the golf course for the 14th time since his inauguration. "Maybe don't buy eggs for a while, all right?"

Trump warns the market will crash if he loses. (February 2024)
www.cnn.com

... Trump is not just foretelling a market meltdown -- something he, wrongly, forecast in 2020. The former president is predicting the mother of all market crashes if he isn't victorious.

"If we lose, you're gonna have a crash like you wouldn't believe," Trump said at a campaign rally on Friday. He went on to say a loss for him would spark "the largest stock market crash we've ever had." ...

@#13 ... My retirement funds can't handle much more winning. ...

Sorry to hear that.

If I may comment ...

This level of uncertainty seems to be what the Republicans want when they propose the elimination of Social Security.

Uncertainty and chaos.

In my instance, can I pay my monthly home equity loan next month, or will I lose my house and become homeless?

All because of the whims of Pres Trump.

#16 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-03-10 08:14 PM

I pulled everything out of the market in January betting for a 30% downturn. Being retired I can't risk trump.

#17 | Posted by bat4255 at 2025-03-10 08:14 PM

The recession will come because of falling consumer confidence, which will dampen spending throughout the US economy, will fall further when more and more government layoffs go through, and those layoffs will ripple into the broader employment base. The results in the US equity markets are just signs of confidence.

Unlike some recessions in the past 50+ years, those losing jobs and reducing spending are people with better, solid jobs with higher pay rates. Those at the low end of the economic scale are already overspending and now have little savings to fall back upon. A broader problem in the job market will make the coming recession harder to correct. The TV anchors and pundits now running the US government have little clue about what to do to fix the problem.

If the economy turns down, and if there is an election in 2026 the MAGA crowd will be thrown out of office far and wide. Sadly the election is no longer a sure thing ...

Stocks tumble on recession fears, Trump tariff uncertainty
www.foxbusiness.com

... U.S. stocks tumbled on Monday, with concerns about the effects of President Donald Trump's tariffs on economic growth spooking investors.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 890.01 points, or 2.08%, while the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 slid 4% and 2.69%, respectively. The Dow and the S&P 500 saw their worst day since Dec. 18; the tech-heavy Nasdaq had its worst day since September 2022.

Trump on Sunday declined to explicitly rule out a full-blown recession for the U.S. economy this year, telling Maria Bartiromo in a "Sunday Morning Futures" exclusive interview that the country will see a "period of transition" as his policies take effect. ...

It's as clear as day that crashing the market was always Trump's intention.

From attacking our allies (Canada, of all nations? WTF?!) to undermining the defense industry, to laying off tens of thousands of federal workers. Anyone who doesn't see that is probably too busy doubling down on their Trump coins.

Trump thinks he has to acquire land to be a historically great president, like Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase.

Plus he's a god damn toddler and a Russian asset.

#42 | Posted by truthhurts at 2025-03-11 10:52 AM

Sure Eberly - my thinking on this is:
2008 recession - caused by:
Housing bubble (markets),
Risky lending (roll back of protections,
Lack of government intervention), and
Inadequate regulation.

Today's downturn and move into a possible recession (or worse) is driven by:
Self-inflicted idiocy of tariffs being executed like a sledge hammer.
Self-inflicted stupidity of DOGE acting out of massive and total ignorance.
An amazingly moronic trade war ((Trump just raised tariffs to 50% for Canadian steel and aluminum)

In other words - this was 100% preventable and self-inflicted by the Moron in Chief. Not by market forces, not by accumulated bad decisions over years. Not by forethought.

Todayy we're facing the results of a conscious choice. Even with all the red light flashing - our President is pushing ahead, foot smashing the pedal to the floor.

#43 | Posted by YAV at 2025-03-11 10:58 AM

How did y'all even survive this:

Apparently the markets were so strong at the time we hardly noticed. Also most of those gains (and losses) went to the wealthy anyway. As usual.

FTA:
From the market lows of 2020 to the peak at the end of 2021, America's stock wealth nearly doubled, from $22 trillion to $42 trillion. The bulk of that wealth went to those at the top, since the wealthiest 10% of Americans own 89% of individually held stocks, according to the Federal Reserve.

#44 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-03-11 11:03 AM

BTW - DOGE's idiocy isn't relevant to them accomplishing their true mission. They simply don't care about what the impact is to us.

This was a choice made by Trump to give fElon full access.

same way I'll survive this.

Optimist.

Because Trump wanted to cause a recession and personally profit from the stock swings. All at the expense of other stock investors as well as anyone relying on a strong economy for their employment.

Hey s^%*heap, it's not about how people got through previous recessions or market dips (for the majority, the market isn't really relevant compared to the broader macro economics behind it).

It's about how you voted for a "bidnessman" to "fix" things because he cared about America and the "evil Dems" were willfully destroying it.

Only to have the "bidnessman" willfully destroy it for his own selfish motives.

So f^*% you you stupid sack of s^*^.

You posted this thread about the markets dropping.

What's so unfair about pointing out a significant market drop just 3 years ago?

You couldn't even remember that when you posted this. You're actually shocked all to hell that it even happened because the market drop doesn't even bother you.

It didn't then and it doesn't now.
