Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, January 11, 2026

Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal explains basic law enforcement professional conduct: "Law enforcement professionals, real ones, not the fake made up ICE, probably Trump's new army to attack citizens of the United States ... no law enforcement professional wears a mask. None." She goes on to say, "Law enforcement professionals do not shoot at moving vehicles ... Law enforcement professionals do not stand in front of moving vehicles invoking action that is illegal."

The professional LEOs in your town wears masks?

Not in my town. Nothing my county. Not in my state.

You should probably move. Unless maybe you like your community being invaded by lawless masked marauders, murderers and jack booted thugs who think they are above the law.

I don't really know what to tell you guys. LEOs wear masks all the time, often so they and their loved ones aren't targeted for retaliation (e.g., DEA agents, or undercover cops who don't want to blow their identity when executing a warrant (which means all the other cops executing the warrant have to wear a mask or the undercover cop just identified himself as being an undercover cop)).

It is extremely rare for police officers to wear masks in democratic nations (during public actions). U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents began wearing balaclavas and neck gaiters this year, in what might have been the first example of American law enforcement officers wearing masks.

So.. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation on Saturday that would prevent federal immigration agents from wearing masks in the state, a direct response to President Trump's deportation crackdown in the Los Angeles region.

California's measure would bar law enforcement officers from wearing face coverings, such as ski masks, balaclavas and neck gaiters, that shield their identities. It does not apply to medical masks, clear plastic face shields, respirators, eye protection or other safety devices.

Newsom on Saturday signed four other bills aimed at restricting ICE activity in California.

One bill prevents immigration agents from entering schools without a warrant. Another requires schools and higher education institutions to notify parents when immigration enforcement is on campus.

He also signed legislation that bars immigration agents from entering hospitals without a warrant. Undocumented immigrants are allowed to receive emergency care at hospitals under federal law, and California leaders fear that the threat of enforcement may deter people from seeking medical attention.

"You are welcome America."
-Gavin Newsom

Agreed! Maybe she should have been more careful with her words in her prepared statement, like you were with your comment here. Instead of saying "no law enforcement professional wears a mask."

Instead she handed Fox News a talking point about her ignorance and DEI hires for the next couple weeks, as they trot out photos of her own cops wearing masks.

Can legitimate protesters wear masks? Again, we can't have it both ways. You can't make absolutist statements about one without applying it to the other, no matter which way you're trying to apply the double standard.

#12 I don't quite understand your false equivalence, sentinel.

Legitimate protestors are not responsible for enforcing the law.

Law enforcement officers are.

Therefore, if they are operating under the color of law then, yes, they should be transparent in their actions.

And this includes their showing their face, their identification, and their official credentials.

It is called transparency.

Yes, she is so knowledgeable that the real Philly police department immediately responded with:

Philadelphia Police Department Creates Distance After County Sheriff's Bizarre Press Conference
The Philadelphia Police Department reaffirmed its authority after Sheriff Rochelle Bilal's comments on masked officers sparked confusion and public debate.

"The City of Philadelphia is policed by the Philadelphia Police Department, not the Philadelphia Sheriff's Office," Bethel said in the written statement. He emphasized that the Sheriff's Office, a separate elected entity, does not conduct criminal investigations or provide municipal policing services.

[Philadelphia Police] Department policy allows officers to use protective face coverings during riot control, chemical exposure, or safety-sensitive situations.

And, of course, the funny thing in all of this is that for the longest time it was folks on the left who had no problem with cops being fired for refusing to wear masks, after Hair Furor politicized it during COVID.

Many of the same ones on the left who claimed that protestors wearing masks while illegally encamping as recently as last year were doing so as a public health issue to stop the spread of illnesses.

A mask is a mask if it conceals identity (as if there's anything in the Constitution that prohibits LEOs from concealing their identity).

You want us to start asking people why they're wearing them? And then send them to prison when we think they're lying about the reason or they claim the Fifth and refuse to state a reason?

Anyhow, the American people have repeatedly failed miserably in ensuring we have a functioning government (Ralph Nader 2000!), going so far as to let a convicted felon into office after we saw him committing insurrection four short years previously. The masked LEOs are a symptom of the problem, not the cause. And best of luck getting a single conviction for any law prohibiting them from donning those masks. The most you can reasonably hope for is termination for violating department policy.

Which is the "what." Don't want cops acting like fascists? Don't elect fascist leaders into office.

Otherwise, sit on your butts on election day and then whine about it. Like so many of the posters here who decided that Nader/Jill Stein/watching TV were better choices than voting for the Dem alternative.
