I don't really know what to tell you guys. LEOs wear masks all the time, often so they and their loved ones aren't targeted for retaliation (e.g., DEA agents, or undercover cops who don't want to blow their identity when executing a warrant (which means all the other cops executing the warrant have to wear a mask or the undercover cop just identified himself as being an undercover cop)).

Her blanket statement just made herself sound clueless.

It is extremely rare for police officers to wear masks in democratic nations (during public actions).

Instead she handed Fox News a talking point about her ignorance and DEI hires for the next couple weeks, as they trot out photos of her own cops wearing masks.

Undercover cops aren't the ones who execute warrants. They gather information to build cases. Others do apprehensions.
You think undercover cops are never on site to assist other cops with identifying perpetrators?

She's a sheriff with decades of law enforcement experience. The clueless one is you, apparently.

And, of course, the funny thing in all of this is that for the longest time it was folks on the left who had no problem with cops being fired for refusing to wear masks, after Hair Furor politicized it during COVID.

Many of the same ones on the left who claimed that protestors wearing masks while illegally encamping as recently as last year were doing so as a public health issue to stop the spread of illnesses.

A mask is a mask if it conceals identity (as if there's anything in the Constitution that prohibits LEOs from concealing their identity).

You want us to start asking people why they're wearing them? And then send them to prison when we think they're lying about the reason or they claim the Fifth and refuse to state a reason?

Anyhow, the American people have repeatedly failed miserably in ensuring we have a functioning government (Ralph Nader 2000!), going so far as to let a convicted felon into office after we saw him committing insurrection four short years previously. I'm just here for the show and the apoplectic flailing of limbs as the exact sheet show we've been warned about for decades comes to fruition.

Are those wearing masks doing so under the color of law? If not, I ask again: So what?

The masked LEOs are a symptom of the problem, not the cause. And best of luck getting a single conviction for any law prohibiting them from donning those masks. The most you can reasonably hope for is termination for violating department policy.

Which is the "what." Don't want cops acting like fascists? Don't elect fascist leaders into office.

Otherwise, sit on your butts on election day and then whine about it. Like so many of the posters here who decided that Nader/Jill Stein/watching TV were better choices than voting for the Dem alternative.
