Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, June 18, 2025

In President Donald J. Trump's first five months in office, real wages for hourly workers have seen their largest increase under any administration in nearly 60 years " and we're just getting started with pro-growth, pro-prosperity policies that finally put America First.

Alternate links: Google News | Twitter

Blue-collar workers have seen real wages grow almost two percent in the first five months of President Trump's second term " a stark contrast from the negative wage growth seen during the first five months of the Biden Administration.

The New York Post notes: "Since Richard Nixon in 1969, Trump has been the only president to record positive growth for blue-collar workers in his first five months. He also achieved 1.3% in his first term ... The recovery from a 1.7% decline recorded in Biden's first five months, as inflation outpaced earnings, suggests a shift in economic conditions for this financially stressed segment of the workforce."

Shutting down most of the economy due to a goal pandemic resulted in bad economic output?

What a shocker!!!

To the extent that POTUS policies affect our current economic output the results are mixed. Cutting bad regulations and expanding access to natural resources certainly drives growth but it's being at least partially (if not more) offset by the imposition of tariffs.

I work for a regional healthcare company and for us I know the reason we are having a downturn is due to increased difficulty in obtaining payment from public health insurers.
On the financial update call, the leader who was presenting financials, who is a slightly outspoken republican, was asked if the current layoffs were in anticipation of public insurance funding cuts being discussed in congress. The response was "No. We will have to reevaluate should that occur. My current hope is that the big beautiful does not pass in its current form."

That statement, along with the reason for our current cutbacks, signaled to me that should the new budget reduce public healthcare funds then we will likely respond by closing facilities with higher ratios of patients on public insurance plans than private, e.g. rural facilities.

Over 1M illegals have self-deported already - those illegals being removed from the labor force will result in wages increasing for Americans and the end to those illegals abusing the social services and school system.

Underemployment is VERY high - but, there are 2 factors for this. First, a lot of this is related to people 'with college degrees' working in jobs where one is not required. That is not a problem with the economy - that is a problem with the school system giving out useless degrees. Second, this is caused in part by the wage suppressing nature of the illegal aliens. For the average American - if you make $100,000/year - do you care if you use your degree or not? The US median per capita income is ~$43,000. The issue is not 'underemployment' - it is WAGES TOO LOW. So, treat the factors leading to low wages: 1.) foreign imports undercutting US products (via tariffs), 2.) discourage US firms from moving outside of the US (via regulation relief, cheap energy, and tariffs), 3.) encourage foreign firms to expand manufacturing in the US (via tariffs), and 4.) get rid of the wage suppressing illegals

Now - you may not agree that tariff work - that is a fair stance. But, you cannot state that Trump's entire economic plan is not centered around this 100% scientifically backed belief system so it doesn't make sense.

those illegals being removed from the labor force will result in wages increasing for Americans

And the subsequent increases in prices (this thing called inflation...) will wipe those gains out. At best, it will be neutral. The more likely scenario is they will end up putting workers behind again because it will be yet another opportunity to raise prices further than necessary.

First, a lot of this is related to people 'with college degrees' working in jobs where one is not required.

Complete and utter nonsense.

Second, this is caused in part by the wage suppressing nature of the illegal aliens.

You're putting the cart before the horse because you have a dishonest axe to grind.

Companies incentivize illegal migration because they'd rather pay exploitable labor less. You make it sound like they're just using a resource that just so happens to be available.

For the average American - if you make $100,000/year

Tell me you're a clueless, pontificating sack of stupid s(*& without telling me you're a clueless, pontificating sack of stupid s(*&...

What a f*&^ing idiot.

But, you cannot state that Trump's entire economic plan is not centered around this 100% scientifically backed belief system so it doesn't make sense.

#45 | Posted by ScottS

The end result of your "scientifically backed belief system" is inflation.

It will have the same effect as raising minimum wages, which, predictably, caused price increases that not only negated the wage increases, but put more people in economic distress because the folks who worked their way to $15-20 an hour were now treading water or underwater again as their income gains were wiped out.

You're wrong on every facet of this. Companies suppress wages by hiring illegals and the forced hiring of higher wage domestic workers (to the extent it will happen as opposed to automation or finding new placed to offshore to) will look good on wage gains but not so good on inflation.

"It will have the same effect as raising minimum wages, which, predictably, caused price increases that not only negated the wage increases
#51 | Posted by jpw"

That is because raising minimum wage distorts market forces - it raises wages but results in increased unemployment because you end up deceasing total jobs. Deporting illegals constrains the amount of workers in the market naturally driving wages up. As the total workforce shrinks, it will naturally cause a higher rate of wage inflation throughout the labor market. So yes, prices will increase, but the positive impact on wages will surpass it. The net impact of a labor shortage is an increasing middle class - this is what drove wages up in the 1950's.

And we already have the proof this is working again under Trump has stated in the link. The even bigger benefit for the US in kicking the illegals off of the social services as well as removing displaced US workers from welfare to working. The opposite is accomplished with a higher mandated minimum wage - we just get more US workers on welfare and the illegal alien problems persist.

Again - stick to washing beakers. This economics stuff is beyond your pay grade.

Hey dipshit, I thought this was what you liberals wanted. I guess it truly is the 'new' Democrat party looking out for the top 1% only.

Hey dips*&^, I'm not a librul (you don't actually know what liberals are, you think about the caricatured librul version you've been programmed to believe) and I'm certainly not the Democratic (Democrat party doesn't exist, dumbf*&^, stop listening to that talking nasal passage Mark Levin) party.

You're full of nothing but bulls*&^ and you don't even know it.

The same set of facts will yield the same result.

You really are a stupid pile of s(*&.

I have no desire to be part of the parasite government class.

No, but you do strike me as a big enough scumbag that you'd happily join to grift and profit no matter the cost to the public.

God damn, Republicans sure are stupid.

No, they are dishonest.

They choose that time frame because it's most favorable to their preconceived conclusion.

It doesn't matter that their own policies aren't responsible for it.

"They are only comparing the first 5 months of the presidency to the 5 months of every other president's first term...

No one else has ever claimed otherwise - that is a strawman you are creating. Second, Joe Biden hd 4 years and he delivered negative wage growth. Trump is the change we need.
