... Eighteen days after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the first hours of the war, and eliminating other political and military leaders, it would have been safe to assume the power center of the Islamic Republic had been fatally destabilized.

"But as the third week of the war begins, it is becoming clear that this assessment does not match reality. Iran's power structure has overcome the initial shock," Middle East analyst Habib HosseiniFard told DW.

Bruised but not eliminated, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are continuing to carry out attacks on several fronts against the US, Israel and neighboring Arab states. They are relying on a decentralized and wellconnected command structure. ...

Against this backdrop, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has ruled out negotiations, saying there will be no cease-fire as long as the US and Israel continue to strike Iranian targets.

He appears able to rely on a stillrobust military apparatus, with the IRGC as the key actor capable of responding flexibly to constantly changing situations. ...

Why Iran can still fight as a 'failed state'

Reza Talebi, a political analyst, points to Iran's internal structure and warns against simplistic assumptions about a possible collapse of power in Iran. ...

From what I've read, Pres Trump seems to have thought that Iran would be a short ~in and out~ operation, like Venezuela.

It's more like the air phase of Desert Storm. IRGC launch numbers are dwindling. The USAF & IDF are now over Tehran focusing on the Basij militia.

If you look at DrudgeReport, ships are burning out of control in the Strait, America is on the brink, it's armagedon.

If you watch the OSINT and live maps, it's much less dramatic, and very one sided. There's 500 air strikes hitting Iran vs Iran activating regional surrogates for local skirmishes (which then get bombed), and getting 1 missile or drone through out of a wave going the other way. No new map color in an area showing a Kurd uprising. Looking at a country Israel has already been waging an air war against for 8 months and blew up all the best Russian supplied air defenses last year.

Sitz, are you aware that Iran is inflicting economic harm on the world by restricting traffic in the strait of hormuz? You understand that that is their primary strategic objective-to inflict enough economic hardship that the US and Israel offer a ceasefire.

You understand that correct?

You do understand that the hardship imposed by Iran can ONLY be relieved by not only opening the SoH but also having the Gulf states pumping and loading the oil at levels similar to what they were pumping before the war.

You get that, right? That victory for Israel and America is not measured by blowing up equipment but by imposing their will sufficient to clear that "pipeline" of oil and LNG and fertilizer and helium etc.

You understand that, right?

That if you blow up 98% of Iran's rockets and missiles and drone and artillery and mines and boats and submarines, Iran can STILL close that pipeline, because private companies need to be convinced to move their ships through and the Gulf states need to be able to pump oil into said ships.

You understand that, right?

Are America and Israel days away from destroying 100% and VERIFYING said 100% of Iranian weapons such that private companies will risk their ships?

If the answer is no, then we are looking at a massive world wide recession that will make 2008 and 2020 look like child's play.

US VP Vance says we know we got a problem' with petrol prices
US Vice President JD Vance has acknowledged that "we got a problem" when it comes to rising petrol prices amid the US-Israel war on Iran.

"Gas [petrol] prices are up. We know they're up, and we know people are hurting because of it," he said during a speech at a manufacturing facility in Michigan.

"We got a problem " we know that we got a problem," he continued, adding that "we're working on couple things that will be announced in the next 24, 48 hours".

The vice president did not elaborate, saying he did not want to get ahead of President Donald Trump.

"We warn you once again that you made a big mistake in attacking the energy infrastructure of the Islamic Republic, the response to which is being implemented," a statement carried by Iranian media said.

Months more of airstrikes. More single digit "waves" from the IRGC. Once in awhile a Shaheed or missile will get through and damage something. More dead civilians, 99.99% of those in Iran. The Gulf States counter Iranian drones by infrastructure relocation and hardening. Qatar will make strategic investments in relocating their LNG infrastructure to the opposite side of their peninsula so it becomes defensible.

We don't have the resource to change the regime. This is guaranteed to be a repeat of Iraq, except in bigger area with bigger bombs. Fallujah had around 300k people before we invaded. Tehran has 9 million just in the city proper.

Further, our military does not understand the enemy. Like they didn't understand Iraq. Suffering is their opportunity to show their worthiness to their God. They feed off it.

The Iranian regime has been saying since it's inception that America was coming to destroy them. And here we are, doing exactly that.

Obama had the right idea. Open up trade, encourage Iranian participation with the West. Give the Iranians a reason to cooperate.

We also need to cut Israel loose, and let them deal with their neighbors on their own. If they want to stay belligerent and continue their genocide, they can deal with the consequences. Including answering for war crimes.

If you were sincere, you would not understand what is going on. But you're not sincere cause you're a troll.

How much destruction to the world's economy can Iran inflict?

How many people will pay the price for that destruction?

What will be the impact in the loss of 35% of the world's fertilizer at the start of the growing season for 70% of arable land?

What will be the impact on developing nations when the lights go off because they run out of fuel?

What will happen to inflation when the supply chain shortages start building up?

Since you're a selfish prick, what will be the impact to America from the massive refugee flow that will inevitably occur?

If you were to honestly answer ANY of those questions, the next question I would ask you is "Will this massacre you describe have any effect on preventing the damage Iran is causing?"

I know you won't respond with any level of sincerity or honest

This is what our Israeli & Gulf regional allies wanted. They knew what would happen. Do you rip off the bandaid before or after that same regime is nuclear capable?

#71 | Posted by sitzkrieg

Iran wasn't pursing a nuke

is the world safer for Iran NOT having a nuke?

Would this or any war be happening if Iran HAD a nuke?

Israel is learning that MAD can be achieved even without a nuke.

Here's hoping that if Israel uses a nuke that Iran successfully destroys Israel's nuclear and desalination plants.

Here is a simple question.

Is Iran's closing of the Strait of Hormuz causing significant damage to world economies?

Even broader terms, is the War on Iran causing significant damage to world economies?

Can you honestly answer those questions?

They already suffered a major setback months ago. A number of their key scientists were killed. Good luck finding replacements willing to put their lives at risk. They need a lot of money and are almost having to start over from scratch. And prior to that strike several months ago they were actively pursuing nukes.

No troll, war is NOT genocide. Israel's genocide is genocide

you know the collective punishment, forced famine, forced relocation, destruction of homes, destruction of infrastructure, restriction on food and medicine, land theft, mass incarceration.

You know, genocide stuff

Stuff the Israeli government acknowledges doing

You've been told that. You lie.

Yeah, Iran seems to be well versed in technology, more well-versed than they oft are given cedit for.

But, not only technology.

Given that Pres Trump and Israel have wiped out the top levels of Iranian government, Pres Trump's war is continuing, with no apparent end.

So the Iranians seem to have put into place a governmental infrastructure that is war resistant?

And Pres Trump seems to have thought his war with Iran would be like Venezuela, one day in and out.

Wow, was he mistaken.

Of course, that asks the question ... why might he have been so mistaken?

I'd say that is another thread, but I'm at my limit of new threads for the day.... :(

Iran is NOT what propaganda says they are

While certainly repressive, they are no worse than many other ME countries and much of that repression comes from reaction to sanctions and ostracizing from the world

Iran and it's governance, while certainly religious, is also highly rational.

Iran is primarily Shia and does not have the suicidal end of times beliefs that the radical sunni/wahabbi muslims do.

America would be far better off if we had spent the last 47 years trying to forge relations with Iran instead of well what we have been doing. Shit we have good relations with Viet Nam
