"Today, I have signed into law H.R. 3734, the "Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996." While far from perfect, this legislation provides an historic opportunity to end welfare as we know it and transform our broken welfare system by promoting the fundamental values of work, responsibility, and family.

This Act honors my basic principles of real welfare reform. It requires work of welfare recipients, limits the time they can stay on welfare, and provides child care and health care to help them make the move from welfare to work.

This is a thread about welfare reform. I don't buy Trump bibles, crypto or wear a MAGA hat. I was given two choices to vote for. I chose the one who could make complete sentences and didn't go around in circles of unburdenisms... BTW I believe Bill Clinton did the right thing when he signed the welfare reform piece.

Your post implied that because clinton did something that dems should support it.

Nonsense. I posted it because this isn't a republican only position on welfare reform. Democrats have taken the same position, but when it happened this time, you claim hE's sTaRvInG bAbIeS!!!!

How, exactly, did they come up with the determination? Who was cut from the benefit? Too much income? I assume the line was re-drawn somewhere.

I don't know and don't even care anymore - maybe just give the SNAP to everyone and be done with it. Just getting tired of the people who claim this is some kind of sick trick to starve children. Especially when the people they've voted for did the same/similar. Same with immigration and trade.

Clinton made massive mistakes.

That's putting it lightly. Killing the middleclass wasn't a mistake, they all knew what would happen with NAFTA. Now most of our vibrant rust belt cites and the Midwest cities are slums with no opportunity. You can work your way out of poverty with some opportunity, but you're dead in the water with poverty/no opportunity.
