More than a million children across the US have lost access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap) food benefits since Congress approved the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July 2025, according to a new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP).

NEW: In the 9 months after last year's reconciliation law enacted unprecedented SNAP cuts, the number of people receiving SNAP fell by more than 4.5 million. Based on available data, we estimate that at least 1.5 million fewer kids are receiving SNAP. www.cbpp.org/research/foo ...

Kids? Unless they have some allowance money in their pocket, there's seldom anything worth stealing. Ever seen Trump with kids? Yeah, wrapped in a cloud of natural affinity. And his own? Whew.

FTA
"The legislation tightened eligibility rules for food assistance and increased state screening requirements"

It's called reform.

"Today, I have signed into law H.R. 3734, the "Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996." While far from perfect, this legislation provides an historic opportunity to end welfare as we know it and transform our broken welfare system by promoting the fundamental values of work, responsibility, and family.

This Act honors my basic principles of real welfare reform. It requires work of welfare recipients, limits the time they can stay on welfare, and provides child care and health care to help them make the move from welfare to work.

Clinton made massive mistakes. Dems can admit that and we don't worship the man. You can't admit trump makes massive mistakes because you're in a cult.

3 times you chose trump over a rational reasonable leader. In none of those occassions was he the better choice by any measure. But you'll forever claim that biden's faults were worse than trump, with zero evidence when it comes to results. And you'll claim that harris WOULD HAVE been worse than trump, a pure fantasy from the cult that lives in delusion. Everything in the country was on a better course when biden left than it is now.

That appears deliberate. They were trying to remove adults but 1.5 million kids were included in the cuts.

How, exactly, did they come up with the determination? Who was cut from the benefit? Too much income? I assume the line was re-drawn somewhere.

Of course repubs blame clinton for NAFTA.

In reality Here's the timeline:

Ronald Reagan is often credited with promoting the idea of a North American free trade area. During his 1980 presidential campaign, he advocated closer economic integration with Canada and Mexico.

Brian Mulroney and Reagan negotiated the Canada"United States Free Trade Agreement, which took effect in 1989 and became the foundation for a broader North American agreement.

Carlos Salinas de Gortari was a major driving force behind expanding free trade to include Mexico. In 1990, he formally proposed a free trade agreement with the United States.

George H. W. Bush agreed to negotiate. His administration, led by U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills, conducted the negotiations with Canadian and Mexican counterparts.

The three countries completed the negotiations in 1992, and Bush, Mulroney, and Salinas signed the agreement in December 1992.

When Clinton entered office in January 1993:

He supported NAFTA but sought additional agreements on labor and environmental standards to address criticism.

After negotiating those side agreements, his administration worked to secure congressional approval.
Congress passed the implementing legislation, and Clinton signed it into law on December 8, 1993. NAFTA took effect on January 1, 1994.

the vote on NAFTA did not follow party lines.

House vote (November 17, 1993)
Passed 234"200
Republicans:
132 Yes
43 No
Democrats:
102 Yes
156 No

A majority of Democrats voted against the agreement, while a majority of Republicans voted for it.

Senate vote (November 20, 1993)
Passed 61"38
Republicans:
34 Yes
10 No
Democrats:
27 Yes
28 No

Again, Republican support was stronger than Democratic support.

NAFTA's Impact on U.S. Workers
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NATFA) was the door through which American workers were shoved into the neoliberal global labor market.
By establishing the principle that U.S. corporations could relocate production elsewhere and sell back into the United States, NAFTA undercut the bargaining power of American workers, which had driven the expansion of the middle class since the end of World War II. The result has been 20 years of stagnant wages and the upward redistribution of income, wealth and political power.

You're an anti-union guy.
You should be happy about this.

Not really.
But even if I did support that, there isn't a party selling it.

Unlike what you support, which is taking food away from hungry people because you think it will lower your taxes.
There absolutely is a party selling that.

As for the funding mechanism, if I were funding UBI, it would be something like Social Security, where everybody pays in, and everybody gets paid out, all at the same time. It wouldn't be a thing where people take and don't give back, like, I dunno, SNAP.

But even more important than that:
Your imaginary system where "people simply take and don't give back" doesn't even exist!
I posted a link last week that shows SNAP generates $1.50 in economic activity for every $1 spent.

So, cutting SNAP is actually bad for the economy. It's worse for the economy than not cutting SNAP.
But you support cutting SNAP anyway.
Why?
Because you like hurting people.

Here's a link for the claim that SNAP generates more revenue than it costs:
There's a million links like this.
Not that you'll read this one.
You're too stubborn to want to remedy your own pitiful ignorance.

Texas may need to pay $826 million annually for SNAP due to One Big Beautiful Bill

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, helps one in 10 Texans, Feeding Texas CEO Celia Cole said during a Wednesday media briefing.

Its recipients are U.S. citizens or lawfully present residents who meet work requirements and have total assets under a certain threshold. The average Texas household gets $11 per day from SNAP and typically only on the program for a year, Cole said.

She noted that it also provides a revenue stream of nearly $7 billion to the Texas economy.

"Every federal dollar that is distributed through SNAP benefits goes directly back into the economy in the form of purchases at grocery stores ... that generates between $1.50 and $1.80 (per dollar) in total economic activity," Cole said. "So it's really about more than just purchasing power in the hands of millions and millions of Texans who are experiencing food insecurity."

NAFTA had bipartisan support.
So did Clinton's Welfare Reform.

The only meaningful example in this economy of
"people simply take and don't give back"
Is the oligarch class.

"The Wall Street Journal, an authoritative voice of the capitalist class, published on its front page Wednesday a report that the 19 richest households in America increased their wealth by $1 trillion in the year 2024. Their combined wealth rose from $1.6 trillion to $2.6 trillion, a staggering 62.5 percent increase in a single year."
www.wsws.org

That is money that has been taken, and is not being given back.
And it's more than enough to pay for SNAP.

The only Republican debate around this topic is whether you or Eberly care less.

What it's like is like living off Social Security checks.

"The Federal money has to come from somewhere -it sure as hell doesn't grow on trees."

Correct. It comes from taxpayers.
And then, it gets given to taxpayers in exchange for goods.
That Federal money is an economic stimulus. It creates jobs and grows the economy.

"Borrow, take money out of one pocket and put it in the other pocket. wash rinse and repeat"

Money doesn't buy money. It doesn't just go from one pocket to the other. Money buys food, and a whole lot of middlemen have to get paid along the way for that to happen.

I mean, just read any economic website you prefer. Or maybe you'd rather remain ignorant, because they'll all tell you that you're wrong. SNAP generates more money than it costs.
