Multiple people have been shot at a Mormon church in Michigan and the shooter is down, police said Sunday.

I know right were this is. It's about 45 minutes from my place. Grand Blanc is a Flint suburb, almost directly east on the South Side. Been to the "nearby hospital" more than once. Basically it is just inside the civilized edge of Thumb Militia country.

Looking at the truck with the American flags hanging from poles in the bed (everywhere in the rural areas around here) - right wing nutter with a revenge for Kirk motivation is my solid bet.

Thomas Jacob Sanford, the suspect in Sunday morning's mass shooting at a Michigan church, was an Iraq War veteran and outdoorsman, according to military records and social media posts.

A Marine Corps spokesperson told CNN that Sanford served as a sergeant and received several medals for his service, which lasted from 2004 to 2008. He was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom for several months starting in the summer of 2007.

Sanford graduated from Goodrich High School in 2004 and was recognized among other veteran alumni, according to an archived page from the school's website. A local news profile of Sanford from 2007 said he was deployed with the US Marine Corps to Japan before preparing to head for service in Iraq.

Social media accounts linked to Sanford's family show he was married with at least one child, a young son. According to a GoFundMe page from 2015, the family was in need of donations to help pay for the medical care of Sanford's son, who was born with a rare genetic disorder.

I was driving in rural central Michigan by the same old dumps I have been driving by for like a decade thinking, "I really should take a picture of these dumps decorated like it's Christmas with Trump signs and paraphernalia." I mean DUMPS. 8+ old rotted worthless cars in the year, 50 year old ag equipment just rotting in the "yard" - not decoration stuff, dilapidated homes...

I've been through quite a lot of rural America the past couple of months. It's the same story in every state I traversed:

Many huge Trump flags in front of dilapidated houses with junk in the front yard.

All one can do is shake their head and silently say, "way to be against your own best interests.' Suckers!

BTW, I called a friend in Grand Blanc yesterday after reading the news. This is the 12th mass shooting in Michigan this year!

So I talked to a coworker. His dad's neighborhood is across the road from the shooters neighborhood and his kid's have a bunch of Mormon friends from that congregation. The guy definitely had the Trump/Vance sign up still and his dad knew the truck. According to him, the guy called in a bomb threat to the Meijer in the area the day before. If you don't know Meijer, think walmart mega center but good and a 1000% better experience.
