Michael Cohen, who was among Donald Trump's most trusted legal advisers before Trump was elected president in 2016, took the stand Monday morning to testify against him in his criminal trial in New York.

Thing is, Reagan and Bush aren't on trial, so this isn't a matter of degrees of guilt.

Right now, Cohen is killing the defense ~ and this is only the first full day of Cohen's testimony. So far, it's all been softball stuff that could be found in the books Cohen has written. In fact, I'm almost falling asleep. I hope the balance of Cohen's testimony today ends with a cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's testimony landing the knockout blow.

What I really want to see is Trump knocking over the Defense table and lunging at Michael Cohen.

dumb as a hammer, but he has spent all of his life practicing a certain set of tricks to exploit others and evade consequences.

Example:

After experiencing a series of financial setbacks in the early 1990s, New York real-estate developer Donald Trump changed his business strategy from borrowing to build and purchase assets, to licensing his name to others. Producer Mark Burnett approached Trump about a new television show. Although Trump was skeptical, stating that reality television "was for the bottom-feeders of society", Burnett proposed that Trump appear as himself, a successful businessman with a luxurious lifestyle.
We can blame Burnett for rescuing him from obscurity.

I didn't say it. Snopes did.

"Did Ashley Biden Accuse Joe Biden of Inappropriate Behavior in a 'Leaked Diary'?

Note: On April 29, 2024, Snopes changed the rating of this fact check from "Unproven" to "True" based on testimony provided by Ashley Biden. In an April 8 letter to a New York judge requesting jail time for one of the two people convicted of stealing her diary, Biden wrote, "I will forever have to deal with the fact that my personal journal can be viewed online."

Previous versions of this fact check noted "strong evidence" that the diary existed, but argued that no source had authenticated the contents of the pages published online, writing that "the authenticity of photographs purported to be from a diary is a separate question from the factual existence of a diary."

Ashley Biden's letter to the court, in Snopes' view, provides that authentication. "

Is Snopes fake news, too?

After being the victim of a crime in my early twenties, I developed PTSD. The journal that was stolen was part of my efforts to heal.

I am a private citizen, targeted only because my father happened to be running to be President. In other words, the extensive work I have done to move past my trauma was undone by Ms. Harris's actions. ...

Although this criminal act happened more than three years ago, because of the publicity it drew--exactly as Ms. Harris intended"--am constantly re-traumatized by it. I will forever have to deal with the fact that my personal journal can be viewed online.

I'm no lawyer, but what defense can Trump's team offer? Ya, they can try to make Cohen look bad. But everyone from ------ to Hicks to Cohen tell the same story: Trump paid Stormy Daniels for no other reason than to keep the story from coming out on the heels of the Access Hollywood tape (a month before the election) purely to benefit the campaign.

That is the crime for which they committed the falsification of business records, elevating it to felonies.

While Melania was upstairs in Trump Tower crying over the Daniels news, Cohen more or less asked Trump how she's holding up and if she'd be leaving him. Trump replied something along the lines that he wouldn't have a problem getting another woman.

It's a guessing game. I can't think of anything either. They'll try to blow holes in Cohen's testimony but, as you said, the Prosecution has made Cohen, the lynchpin of the whole case, practically bullet proof.

Even character witnesses must be few and far between. Trump's reputation precedes him.

I can't see them resting without a defense, so I guess we'll all just have to wait and be surprised.

From what I see, escape is futile!

Cohen said she was crying upstairs in Trump Tower after she learned about Stormy Daniels and a group went up to talk her down.

On the heels of the Susan McDougal story and Acccess Hollywood tape, she was getting the full extent of Trump's adultery and sleazy treatment of other women. Learning about Stormy Daniels was on top of all of that.

Trump was personally concerned that Daniels's story, if it got out, could affect his chances with female voters, which speaks directly to the underlying election conspiracy statute that elevates these charges from misdemeanors to felonies.

Trump wasn't concerned about saving his marriage. His only concern was saving his electoral chances.

According to Forbes, the legal fees for Trump's hush-hush money trial is being bankrolled by Trump's Save America PAC. The FEC claims that so far the PAC has paid out $6 Million dollars and, at the end of March, the FEC reported, there was an outstanding balance due of $50,000.

So, once again Trump is fleecing his flock to pay his bills.

I don't think all those donations to Trump's PAC are coming from Joe Lunchpail. Lately Trump has been begging for money from his more wealthy corporate supporter who are in need of "favors" if Trump gets re-elected.

MSNBC reported this morning that Speaker Mike Johnson is going to show up at the courthouse today to show his support for Trump.

Yesterday, it was J.D. Vance and Tommy Tubberville in front of the courthouse, supposedly subbing for Trump to say the things that Trump wasn't allowed to say. However, the most they could muster was comments about the depressing courtroom which they claimed was purposely set up that way to wear on Trump's psyche. So much for profiles of courage.

So today, it's Speaker Johnson to the rescue. Maybe he'll be brave enough to not worry about a gag order on himself ~~ unlike Vance and Tubberville yesterday.

No. We are not done here. This case is a sick joke and you know it. The documents case is legit but it's now delayed because the prosecution has been trying to rush it to trial and effed up the handling of the classified documents that are what the case is about.

This trial is stupid. Even legal analysts who despise Tump are saying so.

The prosecution hasn't even established which crime this alleged misdemeanor advanced. They've hinted at campaign finance but that's outside Bragg's jurisdiction.

The campaign finance issue came before the FEC, that actually has jurisdiction, and declined to pursue this.

1. "The documents case is legit but it's now delayed because the prosecution has been trying to rush it to trial and effed up the handling of the classified documents that are what the case is about."
It's effed up because the Judge is delaying as much as possible and the Supreme Court is delaying as much as possible. Your bff Trump appointees are the problem.

2. "Even legal analysts who despise Tump are saying so."
Your OAN and Fox News analysts maybe. Not the remainder.

3. "The prosecution hasn't even established which crime this alleged misdemeanor advanced."
That was established early on and repeatedly. It's not supposed to be presented in the original charges. This has been explained to you repeatedly.

4. "The campaign finance issue came before the FEC, that actually has jurisdiction, and declined to pursue this."
Declining to pursue it does not mean it's not illegal. In addition, he violated STATE election and tax laws. Again explained to you repeatedly.

5. "This case is a sick joke and you know it."
The only sick joke is you demanding Trump be given preferential treatment and some two-tiered Justice system.

Even if convicted, this would be Trump's first offense, and the offense being nonviolent will more than likely keep him out of jail.

BellRinger and BillJohnson have that exact same problem.

They post lies.

Several people will correct their lies.

Then BellRinger/BillJohnson will post the same exact lie, sometimes on the same exact thread.

It's either due to their stupidity or their desire to troll.

Regardless.

Both of them are a waste of time.

I gotta say, if I were a juror I would not feel able to rely on anything Cohen says unless it were independently corroborated. His history of lies is almost as extensive as Trump's. It reinforces my perception that throughout his life, Trump has surrounded himself with fleas, rats and scum because that is what he also has always been.

"I gotta say, if I were a juror I would not feel able to rely on anything Cohen says unless it were independently corroborated."

I would normally, but I can't get by one particular fact: If Cohen lies now, he goes back to jail.

If I were the prosecution, I'd be pointing that out first, last, and every other chance I got.

It may be "sick" as in "bro that is so sick!"but it's not a joke. The evidence and witness testimony is damning. Trumpy has a good chance of actually being convicted. Whether you or your maga friends understand the law or not.

Like the Jan 6 trials. The closer they get to the truth and I'm this case a conviction the more desperate you maga maroons get.

I will never understand why you maga maroons think that Trumpy is or should be above the law.

That is why the prosecution spent all the time prior to Cohen pre-corroborating Cohen's testimony with testimony from ---------- (Hope Hicks) independent people (------) with tapes and paper.

In any just world ------- would be toast, this is open and shut. At best his defense would be to poke enough holes in each bit of testimony for reasonable doubt to creep in. the prosecution's case has been so solid that any attempts so far have failed miserably.

#88 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-05-14 05:11 PM | Reply

The prosecution hasn't even established which crime this alleged misdemeanor advanced. They've hinted at campaign finance but that's outside Bragg's jurisdiction.

BELLRINGER

Trump violated New York campaign finance law which is within Bragg's jurisdiction.

#89 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2024-05-14 05:22 PM | Reply

Here is a simple fact.

------- need not even have committed the underlying crime for falsifying documents to become a felony.

If he falsified the documents to hide Cohen's crime, THAT makes it a felony.

Which Cohen was convicted of.

------- is toast.

If the American justice system actually functioned.

#90 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-05-14 05:49 PM | Reply

Worse, Cohen went to jail for lying about Trump's role in the hush money payments, and now he is testifying that Trump was directly involved - the opposite of his previous lies that landed him in jail. Trump's team is using Cohen's past dishonesty to try to discredit his current testimony against the former president by suggesting he was lying before, which landed him in jail, and he's ALSO lying now (under oath).

And it doesn't a actually matter what they think anyway.

They are not in the jury. It matters what the jury thinks.

And it doesn't matter what I think. But today it feels like he might actually be convicted. Tomorrow may be different but I don't know how you get around the fraudulent documents/receipts and the checks with his signature on them. And the timing pretty much proves it was for the campaign.

Regardless, I am really glad the whole "catch and kill" scheme has been fully exposed to the public under oath.

And it was revealed that Melania was behind the whole locker room talk narrative. Now THAT was very telling. She really does not care. Got it? Got it.

If Michael Cohen's testimony in this trial serves no other purpose than to serve as a warning to others how dangerous it is to be caught up in the cult of Trump, he has paid his dept to America.

I wonder how many Trump gang members, already in prison, are having second thoughts about their own allegiance to a man who has, much like Michael Cohen, thrown them to the wolves.

#96 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-05-15 01:35 AM | Reply

Just as we suspected, the Defense does not appear to have any witnesses to counter the allegations for which Trump is being prosecuted.

Their whole case is about punching holes in Cohen's testimony. So far, Blanche has failed miserably (and embarrassingly) to lay a glove on Michael Cohen.

If Blanche had a rabbit to pull out of a hat, he would have opened with it. Instead, he opened with making his case about Cohen's bias against him, personally. For which he got scolded by the judge.

Bottom line, there is no rabbit. The Defense rests.

#98 | Posted by BellRinger

I know I have. There's nothing to argue about. Simply explained:

- It isn't illegal to pay hush money
- It is illegal to falsify business records
- The fact that the falsification of records was done to affect the outcome of the 2016 election (in the immediate aftermath of the Access Hollywood tape) elevated the charges to felonies under New York law because the hush money payments were made in the commission of another crime (election law violations).

BTW, Cohen wasn't doing any legal work for Trump in 2017 but received $420,000 from Trump that year in 12 checks for $35,000 each for 12 phony invoices.

#102 | POSTED BY BELLRINGER AT 2024-05-15 04:10 AM | REPLY | FLAG:UM NO

No it isn't. The man had a long string of bankruptcies. In 4 decades of rebuilding, reorganizing or whatever of his businesses and he still had book-keeping "problems". He had a long record of book-keeping "problems" he refused to fix. His book-keeping "problems" were how he committed crimes. Bad book-keeping is his crime.

Personally, I think you want him to get away with it because you wished you could do the same.

There are people living on the streets because of their bad book-keeping. That greedy pig should do the same.

#103 | Posted by RightisTrite at 2024-05-15 05:44 AM | Reply

I can't speak for causing people to live on the street but Trump's shady bookkeeping certainly caused some important causes in New York City to be underfunded.

Not to mention getting himself included in the Millionaire's Club. Trump is a "let them eat cake" kinda guy. A sociopath without a conscience. A grifter and a narcissist who steals from children's and veteran's charities. A racketeer. A user and an abuser. A liar and a thief. A con artist. A shameless self-promoter. A shyster. A traitor. A man who destroys lives and careers. A man consumed with hate and revenge.

The real crime is that the only thing he's being charged with is illegal bookkeeping.

It's like talking to a 5 year old. No matter how many times you explain it, he doesn't get it.

The Falsifying Records statute doesn't care if its state or federal laws that the falsification intended to violate.

EVEN IF IT DID...

The falsification was ALSO done to violate STATE election and tax laws.

WHY CAN'T YOU EVER EXPLAIN WHY I'M WRONG? (hint: We know why.)
