Last year, a then South Carolina State University student suffered a miscarriage. Amari Marsh spent nearly a month in criminal detention center facing 20 years to life in prison. Ultimately, a grand jury declined to pursue the charges. She speaking out about her experience to CNN.

Now this is where I break with the 100% life people. She may not have done anything wrong. This is where a judge is supposed to have justice in mind. The justice would be she not be looked at for murder.

Marsh was initially held without bail and denied house arrest until securing a $75,000 surety bond the following June.

The facts did not support the allegations, her defense team said. Marsh's attorney, Columbia Democratic state Rep. Seth Rose, said there was no evidence the abortion drugs she allegedly received played any part in the death of the fetus " a stance which led the case to be disposed of last month.

"What was being alleged was not what the evidence showed," he said in an interview.

So a college student has to come up with bail, then hire an attorney to prove herself innocent for a miscarriage.

She was charged. But when taken to a grand jury, the grand jury decided not to continue the charge.

In South Carolina, you are initially charged and THEN it goes to the grand jury to either True Bill (confirm) or No Bill (drop) the charge.

She spent 22 days in jail and was released with an ankle monitor.

How would this work? Would a woman have to go to court and receive a judicial blessing before she has a miscarriage in her bathroom? If not, then I guess all such bathrooms need to be roped off with yellow tape until a full investigation rules out homicide. I used to think the Handmaid's Tale comparisons were a bit much, but I don't think that any longer.

My wife and I are thinking the same way. Fortunately, she's a nurse and is employable pretty much anywhere. I will have more difficulty, but hell I'd be happy to drive a cab or flip burgers for a while.
