Trump on Meet the Press today said he doesn't want to break up families.

He wants to eliminate birthright citizenship and in order to avoid breaking up families the children should stay with parents who are deported.

He did talk about the terrible circumstances of this situation but, he said, "something must be done".

Must uphold the law.

Here are the applicable laws

No person shall {SNIP} be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. Emphasis on PERSON

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

Every single PERSON is entitled to due process of law. How is that going to be achieved for the 15-20 Million he wants to deport?

A child born in this country is ENTITLED to every single protection of the law and every time ------- deports a child born in America HE is breaking the law.

There are a plethora of legal reasons to be in this country how is ------- going to assure that the people deported are not here legally. Ex. He considers the Springfield Haitians to be here illegally and presumably he will deport them-again breaking the law

That has been my personal observation.

What do most of the undocumented immigrants do with their pay? They send it home to impoverished countries.

Many of those impoverished countries rely on this money to prop up their economies.

So, what predictable consequence will occur?

Those impoverished countries will be further destabilized further incentivizing their citizens to travel to America for work. Or perhaps you can explain how this deportation plan will disincentivize undocumented immigrants from coming for work.

This is all basic capitalism, you know.

Not sure why it has to be stopped, I hear a lot of head on fire stuff. I hear a lot of demonization of brown people, I hear exaggerations and out right lies about the negative impacts of their presence but I also see the vast majority of "undocumented" come here to work.

Seems like the solution is to give all of them temporary work visas and get on with life.

As has been pointed out ad infinitum our economy is founded on these low wage workers.

Undocumented immigrants commit far fewer crimes (they are incentivized to NOT commit crimes)

Our country is at near full employment

Undocumented immigrants perform very hard labor for very low wages with no worker protections

Undocumented immigrants simply are not smuggling in fentanyl

Our country already prioritizes criminals for deportation

Again, explain it to me like I'm dumb.

What exactly is the urgency of this problem?

I will say as a given, the situation CAN be improved but not through deportation

Basically the Western Hemisphere has it with a couple of exceptions. That said it is in the Constitution and good luck getting that changed. I do believe there should be constraints on it, it is being abused by many. To be clear, I don't think Trump's policies will be anything other than cruel and unusual punishment but the mere fact you set foot in the US and have a child here should not give that child citizenship. There are good and reasonable solutions in other countries that would fix the issues of children being raised here without status as well.

Do you think that illegals should get free health care at hospitals? That is basically what is taking place right now. There's no denial of healthcare to anyone in the ER or Urgent Care clinics. As I have a relative and several close friends around the country working in health care, I am attesting that what I wrote is what is taking place.

Do you think illegals should be allowed into public schools? I understand that "renters pay property taxes vicariously through rent." I also know that many illegals stay with others in apartments and houses, thus breaking both renting lease contracts and single-fami8ly zoning laws. The overcrowding of apartments and rental houses leads to overcrowding, crime, and lowered property values.

Should health care laws/policies and property zoning/lease laws be tightened?

Being in the United States without legal documentation is a civil offense, not a criminal one.

This is America the must powerful country economically and militarily on the planet. And we have declared as one of our founding principles that ALL men (humans) are created equal , that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".

We should ALL be entitled to free heath care in America. Even our criminals get free healthcare in America.

Do I believe that an undocumented person suffering a medical emergency should receive medical care? Yes and any other position is morally repugnant.

Do I believe all children are entitled to an education? Yes and any other position is morally repugnant.

You are mistaken on the definition of Single-Family Home, that, legally speaking, refers to the style of the house (as opposed to a duplex or townhouse, etc.) it does NOT refer to multiple families living in said home. To my knowledge, there isn't a limit on the occupants of a home (though there might be one for health reasons)

Breaking a lease is not a criminal matter it is a civil matter that impacts government actions to a minimal extent, thus irrelevant.

I do not believe there is necessarily a causal relationship between crime and overcrowding, there may be a correlation, but no causation. Facts-undocumented immigrants commit fewer crimes (the incentive to NOT commit crimes is self evident).

No, health care laws/policies and zoning need not be tightened. I would agree that there is room for improvement here, like building more affordable housing.

The most serious concern, among Americans, during the election process this fall was illegal immigration. An overwhelming percentage of Americans trusted Trump to come up with a solution to open borders and unmitigated, illegal immigration. Team Biden/Harris undid every thing that was put into place the previous 4 years before they took office and America saw the consequences.

If mom or mom/dad illegally entered the country to have a baby, there should be consequences. None of our resources should be used to care for, provide for or sustain them. They didn't contribute. There's too many for our system to sustain it's self with the numbers we have here now, and heaven forbid they'd be allowed to keep on coming.

If someone came in illegally, they need to leave. Maybe use the front door and identify yourself next time.

My daughter just put her application in for Carnegie Mellon, Michigan, Northwestern. By the numbers she has an excellent chance to get in all of them. I'd be more interested in the acceptance rate than the admissions rate. There are a number of factors that could contribute to the actual enrollment numbers in this economy.

It's a solid plan. Raid the farms. Arrest any US citizen that refuses to be deported with their families, charge them with conspiring to defraud US immigration or some nonsense. Then when in jail the warden can contract out with the same farms for even cheaper labor than before!
