Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, March 26, 2024

A chorus of MSNBC personnel took to the airwaves Monday to voice a stunning public protest of their own company's decision to hire former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor including Rachel Maddow, Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid, Joe Scarborough, Lawrence O'Donnell and Jen Psaki - citing her support of Donald Trump's baseless claims of a stolen 2020 presidential election.

"NBC News is, either wittingly or unwittingly, teaching election deniers that what they can do stretches well beyond appearing on our air and interviews to peddle lies about the sanctity and integrity of our elections," Wallace said on her show Monday afternoon.

"Our democracy is in danger because of the lies that people like Ronna McDaniel have pushed on this country," Psaki said during MSNBC's 8 p.m. hour.

Maddow, MSNBC's top-rated star, devoted the first block of her show to addressing the "inexplicable" hiring. She described McDaniel as "someone who hasn't just attacked us as journalists, but someone who is part of an ongoing project to get rid of our system of government."

In offering her own critique, Scarborough's "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski on Monday morning emphasized that she doesn't object to McDaniel's political ideologies - but to her actions as a party chief who sided with a president and candidate who sought to overturn the election.

"To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage," said Brzezinski, whose co-host husband is a former GOP congressman. "But it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier."

And let it be pointed out that many of McDaniel's MSNBC critics are themselves either current or former Republicans - former RNC Chairman Michael Steele, Bush Comms Director Nicolle Wallace, former GOP Congresman David Jolly, conservative pundit Charlie Sykes to name a few. As most have made crystal clear, the backlash isn't about McDaniel's political party, it's about her direct complicity in assisting Donald Trump's attempt to delegitimize U.S. elections with lies regarding nonexistent voter fraud, especially in Michigan as she joined Trump on phone calls with state officials in his efforts to overturn their certified results naming Joe Biden the state voter's presidential choice in 2020.

"McDaniel is seeking legal representation."

This will be simple. If McDaniel is on a 3-year contract, MSNBC will pay the full amount, now.

Now THAT's a day's work!

If NBC is on the hook for her 3 year contract, they should demand she still come to work and clean toilets. It would be more honorable and more hygienic than her prior job at the RNC.

And they also need to fire whomever thought that hiring her was a good decision. NBC was trying to insulate itself in case Trump wins this fall, but their logic was severely flawed.

Lawrence O'Donnell mentioned that most of those helming NBC News today were either babies or not born when Nixon was forced from office and many of his fellow staff were charged with crimes. None of those who participated in Watergate went on to paid network jobs until John Dean 20+ years later during the Clinton scandal and impeachment.

I'm sure a right wing outlet will offer McDaniel a job if she doesn't have a non-compete. And I don't know if NBC has to pay her in full right now. She simply has a job where her employer pays her through the length of her contract while she's relieved of having actually duties outside of staying at home.

Well, that was quick:

NBC reverses decision to hire Ronna McDaniel after on-air backlash

Amid a chorus of on-air protest from some of the network's biggest stars, NBC announced on Tuesday night that former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel will no longer be joining the network as a paid contributor.

NBC employees argued publicly and privately that their complain was not with McDaniel's party affiliation but with her actions.

The company's on-air personalities - especially those on NBC's liberal-leaning cable affiliate MSNBC - disagreed vehemently, saying that McDaniel's promotion of Donald Trump's media-bashing and false election-fraud claims disqualified her for a role in their news divisions.

Aint censorship beautiful

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow praised NBC News' decision to axe Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor after uproar from staff on both channels.

She said there was an "essentially unanimous feeling among all the journalists in the building, our senior staff, and all the producers" about the decision to hire the former Republican National Committee chair.

"Acknowledging that you might have got something wrong is a real sign of strength," Maddow said on Tuesday's segment with Reid.

"It's not about hiring a Republican, not even hiring somebody who has Trump ties," she added. "This was a really specific case because of Ms. McDaniels and her involvement in the election interference stuff. And I'm grateful that our leadership was willing to do, I think, the bold, strong, resilient thing."

Democrats have gone from preachers of so called diversity, equity (not equality) and inclusion to advancement of official partisan radical haters, censors, cancel culture, and advancing a trend towards elimination of citizen power.

Their next step is more control by certain Dem political elites and less control and less freedom of diverse average citizens. They don't want diverse discussion. They want unfettered control.

2016: Russia illegally helped Trump win via hacking, social media interference, and other help.
2018: Georgia's Governor tossed 107,000 people off the voter rolls just before his re-election campaign. They closed polling places. Democratic leaning areas had to wait hours in line to vote.

That they aren't in the same universe is also true. 2020 had no fraud. 2016 and 2018 election interference both happened and are heavily documented.
