"Let's be clear, Republican leadership released this bill under cover of night because they don't want people to know their true intentions," the committee's ranking member Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) said in a statement.

"A 2023 CBO report found work requirements for people aged 19-55 would save about $109 billion over a decade at a cost of 600,000 people becoming uninsured, at a minimum. It would also shift $65 billion in costs to states."

Coulda sworn I heard the Lyin' King say there wouldn't be any Medicaid cuts...

"Hawley (R) warns GOP Medicaid cuts are morally wrong and politically suicidal'"

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is warning against his own party's push to slash Medicaid spending, just hours after House Republicans released legislation that could save billions of dollars and make millions of people lose health insurance coverage.

Hawley wrote in an op-ed published Monday in The New York Times that paying for President Trump's domestic agenda by slashing health care for the working poor "is both morally wrong and politically suicidal."

This all must be confusing for Drumpf; people talking about all this, 'morality' nonsense.

Episcopalian Church just opted out of taking White Afrikaners into their relo program, by canceling much of the program, for this same kind of moral silliness.

Authoritarian Oligarchs don't do moral.

OK, so the Republicans seem to be abandon the new tax tier for the wealthy but choosing, instead, to target those who can least able to pay.

I can't wait to read how MAGAs will argue that these cuts "actually" will end up improving medical service for poor and elderly people, and also argue how these cuts really have nothing to do with giving billionaires any tax cuts. And MAGAs, being what they are, will believe it too. Hook, line and sinker.

The fact that Democrats fight tooth and nail against anything that requires able bodied people to work to get benefits is why the Democrats are in the 20's for approval and will continue falling.

People CHOOSING not to work should not get free government handouts.

Section 8 housing is meant to be TEMPORARY - not a 20 year lifestyle choice.

Normal Americans support these changes and these programs never should have been allowing this fraud and abuse.

If Democrats think fighting for people to get free section 8 housing for 20+ years is going to get them votes from Gen Z and the Millennials that can't afford housing despite actually working - they are going to get a big wake up call.

@#9 ... A lot of people rely on Medicaid to live. ...

I agree.

The Republicans seem to be falling back on the lame excuse that people make a choice about needing, but unable to pay for, medical coverage.

I also note that those Republicans in Congress do not seem to be offering data to back up their assertions.

The Republicans just seem to want to take a chain-saw to Medicaid so they can justify adding another 2 or 3 trillion dollars to the deficit.

Oh no, it will be a god damn paradise.

I will LOVE driving through throngs of homeless, uninsured, starving, and suffering Trump supporters who got exactly what they voted for. Low pay. No healthcare. No food stamps. No section 8.

I will benefit heavily from Trump's tax cuts.

While these Republican Congresspeople tell people "College is evil!" I did the same thing they do with their sons and daughters. I went and got an advanced degree and high paying job in a recession proof industry.

I don't mind their suffering. After all, it's Patriotic! It's what they wanted! And it's precisely what they deserve!

Now should I buy some poor dumb bastard's foreclosed home in the big city or some poor dumb bastard's foreclosed home on a lake? Decisions decisions...

We can only hope that when these idiots like ScottS lay down and die to own the libs, they do so on the sidewalk. I don't want to deal with suspension issues on my SUV from driving over their "Patriotic, Liberal Owning, MAGA voting, Red Hat wearing, Trump loving" corpses.

No one is advocating for Medicaid benefits cuts for those that qualify. If you cut the waste and fraud their will be more $ to spend on those that qualify.
And btw, no talk of the prescription drug eo that Trump signed? This one will get interesting for the Dem spin doctors since Bernie and both parties have been advocating it for years knowing they won't actually get it done. The Dems will spin it saying it will hurt the poor black children of Africa but the American people will fight back after finding out they are paying $1000 for a med that people in other countries are paying $50 for.

Yes there's talk that the pharma corps are pushing back against the micro-managing President who poses a threat to their business.

Of course, the Republicans have always said that Americans pay high drug prices to fund future drug development.

So I guess America won't be developing drugs in the future. Interesting 180 by the Republicans, but not at all unexpected. Certainly it is in keeping with the cuts to things like cancer research and not even working on a flu shot for this fall.

The GOP is a Death Cult.

Sorry stupid, that lame argument has already be debunked. Plan calls for if America pays $100 for a pill and Britain pays $20 each would pay $60. Big pharma still gets the $120 to support research and more importantly to them their profits.
After Trump made the announcement pharma stocks dropped, then this was explained they went right back up. You're not going to win this one which even though it is good for the country is really bad for extreme TDS sufferers.

I understand that when government invests say 1 million into private sector research only about a 10th of it actually goes to the research.
And as I mentioned Trump's plan for drug prices spreads the costs equally over all nations, it does not lower the overall income to pharma.

But telling this to someone who has such severe TDS that anything that Trump does that benefits everyday Americans is crapped on is a waste of time.

The 20 hour work requirement is not a cut. If you can't find a job they will put you to community service for 20 hours a week.
The principle is, if you're able-bodied and working age you shouldn't be paid by everyone else to stay home and be useless.

Right. Here they were awarded 19 million to build 77 stations. That's 250k per station. After spending 15 million they installed 17 at a cost of 882k per station. So yes, before the Feds dole out more of our tax dollars they need to make sure it actually gets spent efficiently. That's way to much to ask of Dems apparently.
