Former FBI Director James Comey is under federal investigation following an Instagram post featuring seashells arranged to depict the number "8647."

Trump officials accused former FBI director James B. Comey of threatening President Donald Trump after Comey posted a picture of seashells on a beach arranged to spell out "86 47." Trump is the 47th president; "86" can mean banning or removing someone, but it can also be slang for killing a person.

Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 was an assassin?

When did 86 ever mean murder? 86 is getting thrown out. Happens to me all the time. FFS.

People are losing their frick'n minds.

A couple of problems with your approach, BJ and you should know better:

1. 86 is a sexual position. It's not illegal for Comey to express desire for another man, even the president.

2. Comey has diplomatic immunity

Besides, amazon sells 86/46 shirts about Biden. Get a grip, people.

Alex,

"amazon sells 86/46 shirts about Biden. Get a grip, people."

There's a major difference between a political slogan on a novelty shirt and a cryptic post by a former FBI director involving imagery that can be interpreted as a call to violence. One is satire sold by third parties. The other comes from someone who once held power over national security investigations.

Intent and context matter.

When someone in Comey's position posts "8647," it's not just edgy. It's reckless, especially after real attempts on Trump's life.

Kash Patel, in his book Government Gangsters, said the FBI under Comey was "weaponized against the very people it was meant to protect," describing it as a rogue agency driven by political bias rather than justice.

Americans are right to take it seriously.

Alex,

The fact that you mention shirts with '86/46' proves you already understand what '86' implies.

Whatever message it carried about Biden applies just as clearly to '8647' about Trump.

Your own comment shows you see the connection.

It's an instagram post from a former FBI director. That makes it a whole different matter.

What ever possessed him to post that picture? Funny...haha...but why put it on instagram unless he knew the significance?

Everyone knows what "86 something" means.

Ask GoogleMan if you are still unsure.

It's a "slang term for getting rid of something"

"Comer's post shows he has poor judgment."

That's hilarious coming from a maga maroon.

"He allowed his position to be clouded by partisan rage."

Comey was fired for doing his job and not properly kissing Trumpy's arse and trying (unsuccessfully) to stay nonpartisan in his investigations.

And I bet that getting fired on CNN while giving a speech and getting your credit cards cancelled and your security clearance pulled by a cowardly vindictive hateful boss had nothing to do with his animosity towards Trumpy and his maga maroons.

Turns out Trumpy IS the negligent anti-constitutional criminal everyone was worried about.

#29 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-05-16 11:51 AM | Reply

Donner,

Comey wasn't fired for "doing his job." He was fired for abusing the authority of his office and inserting himself into politically sensitive investigations. Both Democrats and Republicans criticized him at the time.

His animosity toward Trump was clear in how he handled both the Clinton and Russia cases. And if he were truly nonpartisan, he wouldn't be dropping cryptic shell messages on instagram years later.

Government Gangsters by Kash Patel lays out exactly how Comey helped weaponize the FBI to serve political ends especially during the Russiagate fiasco.

Your defense of him doesn't sound like informed judgment. It sounds like blind loyalty.

In any case, posting that instagram picture is going to drag Comey solidly back into the limelight.

And this time the court of public opinion isn't likely to be forgiving.

People will start revisiting the facts, the timelines, and the political manipulation he oversaw, much of which is documented.

Kash Patel's book, Government Gangsters, will likely see renewed attention, especially now that he's FBI Director.

This post has reopened a door Comey may wish had stayed closed. But now that it's open, the spotlight and the scrutiny are coming.

Good, he should be under investigation for that post.

Just like the DoJ should also investigate all the death threats to the Judges (and their families) who have ruled against Pres Trump. Especially since Pres trump seems to be the instigator of those threats via his social media posts.

The question I have, though, is ... I am fairly sure AG Bondi will assure an investigation of fmr Dir Comey. But will she start investigations of those who make the threats against Judges and the families of Judges?

... Catch up quick: Eighty-six is a slang term meaning to "throw out" or "get rid of," according to Merriam-Webster.

- - - It traces back to 1930s soda counter slang to indicate an item was sold out and later was commonly used to mean "to refuse to serve a customer."

- - - "There is varying anecdotal evidence about why the term eighty-six was used, but the most common theory is that it is rhyming slang for nix," according to the dictionary. ...

I guess the FBI took down James Comey's portrait at the J. Edgar Hoover Building PDQ.

D/Kash Patel is loudly clamoring to investigate this "Nothing-burger" which Joe Rogaine or Bill Maher will blather about to distract Americans from Pam Bondi conducting insider trading in the White House, Jeffrey Epstein files remaining unreleased, Trumpf's "Bribe Force One" headache, ongoing ethnic cleansing in Gaza, or zero progress in Ukraine peace talks (but a nice trip for Marco Rubella, Steve Witless, and Gen Kellogg to a first class hotel in Istanbul).

You wonder what Hillary Clinton thinks of James Comey being investigated? cdn.theatlantic.com

When the kitchen says 86 lobster tail it doesn't mean throw all the lobster tails away. It means we're sold out of lobster tail so don't take any more orders for it.

This story, and the comments, does a great job how Republicans always find a way to imagine themselves as being a victim of something.

They can't make it through breakfast before thinking "How have the Democrats harmed me today?"

Then they turn on Fox News and get their daily dose of being a victim.

James Comey must have an ineffective or non-existent "inner monologue."

Q: "Gee, at the press conference, if I exonerate Senator Clinton of any wrongdoing, but admonish her anyway for having the collateral intelligence on her personal laptop, what could possibly happen?"

A: _______________

Q: "Gosh, if I post this '8647' seashell arrangement on social media, a one-in-a-trillion occurrence in the natural universe, what might the possible fallout be?"
