Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 20, 2025

Jamelle Bouie writes that despite Trump's reasoning of DC's high crime, National Guard soldiers are mostly near the White House. "You won't find the National Guard in any of the city's high-crime areas," Bouie writes.

From the artile: "If Trump is genuinely concerned about the safety of D.C. residents," one resident said, "I would see National Guard in my neighborhood. I'm not seeing it, and I don't expect to see it. I don't think Trump is bringing in the National Guard to protect Black babies in Southeast."

You won't find the National Guard in any of the city's high-crime areas. A vast majority of soldiers and agents deployed to Washington are stationed in the vicinity of the White House and other high-profile sections of the city. There are soldiers patrolling the National Mall; armored vehicles parked at Union Station; and ICE agents manning checkpoints on U Street, an area known for its bars, restaurants and nightlife. They're not there for safety, but for show.

It is a truth of this administration, in fact, that much of it is for show. Hardly a day goes by without a new transgression against democratic norms or a fresh assault on the constitutional order. Each represents a serious threat to the American experiment in self-government, and yet each is also highly performative.

What training does that army have that the national guard lacks when it comes to standing on a street corner in america?
#31 | POSTED BY SPEAKSOFTLY

You're an idiot, what army?

Separation of military and police roles

Whereas the military's purpose is to fight wars, law enforcement is meant to enforce domestic law. Neither is trained specifically to do the other's job. Military and law enforcement differ, sometimes fundamentally, in areas such as source of authority, training in use of force, training in investigation and prosecution, and training in enforcing laws and ensuring civil liberties.[1]:3
en.m.wikipedia.org

The point of the "military" (NG) in the streets in low crime areas is so the PD doesn't have to play whack-a-mole. It allows them to focus on the crime areas.

For instance, not one homicide this weekend in DC.

Here's an example how out CHP which does have the training to deal with arresting citizens and detering crime, and civil law.

Yet even here the point of the CHP support is to allow OPD to focus.

"CHP's sustained presence in Oakland allows OPD to focus resources on responding to calls for service and addressing violent crime through our intelligence-based Ceasefire strategy. We greatly appreciate the CHP's targeted enforcement of traffic violations, auto-theft, sideshows, and seizure of illegal guns and look forward to continuing this important partnership in 2025," Bas said.

Riding on the range

I wanna be a cowboy
And you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
And you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy

[Verse 2: Heidi Lea & Nick Richards]
Riding on the chuck wagon
Following my man
His name is Ted
Can you believe that?
(Ted, oh, Ted! Fighting off danger)

Camping on the prairie
Plays havoc with my hair
Makes me feel quite dirty
Though we all do sometimes
(Ted gets so dirty)
I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby!

And you can be my cowgirl

This is EXACTLY what happens in countries where politicians become soft on crime and allow criminals to prosper like liberals are doing in America. Mexico is our closest example...places like Cancun are heavily patrolled to ensure not much crime happens there so it doesn't impact tourism dollars, but the crime only exists because the Mexican government became cushy with the criminals like liberals in America are doing today. So the US has to start doing this to ensure tourism dollars aren't threatened because half the country wants anarchy. This is very much common sense based on reality. Trying to say otherwise only makes you prove how terrible at logic you are.

Only tiny little Poland. Maybe Estonia, they're in a panic state. Can't buy enough American gear. More HIMARS than the US Army.

The majority have plans to spend above 2%. Eventually. "By 2035", mhmm. Only if Russia is still in the trenches in Ukraine.

3 is the number you're really looking for. That's the number of NATO members that kept up their NATO commitments when Russian launched its soft invasion with the Little Green Men. That was the standard for 25 years.

That's how you ---- up an alliance and piss off the Republicans.

Every crime needs to have the likely demographics and politics of the perp and victims promptly made available to the public.

We need to know the obvious demographic origin and threat as a critical need to path for having a crime free society. No DEI or politics or false politics ever needed to counter the influence of a criminal society.

Give every law abiding legal citizen without a law breaking background the right to carry a defensive firearm. Those with a felony background and history of criminality who wrongly carry a firearm need to be locked up.

I dont disagree that white collar crime is costly. It is still not as dangerous as street crime. Suggestion get rid of those that perpetrate all crime. Why do any politicians protect criminals? Disarm and incarcerate all criminals for years.

Army National Guardsman Ticketed Over Crash in Washington DC

The Army National Guardsman driving an armored vehicle that crashed into a civilian car on the streets of Washington has been ticketed for running a red light. JTF District of Columbia did not identify the Guard member involved. The crash is still being investigated. The crash occurred Wednesday around 0600 in the Capitol Hill neighborhood and the driver of the other car was taken to the hospital. The guardsman was driving a heavily armored military vehicle that is designed to provide protection from roadside explosives. The vehicles are being used in the nation's capital to transport Guardsmen to their point of duty. After Dummkopf Trumpf's narcissistic US Army birthday parade, a truck carrying an M1A1 Abrams tank accidentally killed an innocent woman in Washington DC.

National Guard troops in DC will soon' be armed, Pentagon says
thehill.com

... The Pentagon said Friday that National Guard members deployed in Washington, D.C., will soon be carrying service-issued weapons while supporting law enforcement efforts in the city.

An official told The Hill that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had signed an order authorizing the move, which the White House previewed over the weekend.

"At the direction of the Secretary of Defense, JTF-DC members supporting the mission to lower the crime rate in our Nation's capital will soon be on mission with their service-issued weapons, consistent with their mission and training," the Pentagon official said in a statement Friday.

The Pentagon and the Army last week said military members -- nearly 2,000 are now deployed in the city from units in D.C. and six states -- would not be armed in the city. ...
