Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) re-introduced the "Safe Students Act." The "Safe Students Act" (H.R. 5066) repeals the "Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990," (GFSZA) eliminating GFSZA's one-size-fits-all federal ban on guns in school zones. Enactment of the "Safe Students Act" would make it easier for state and local governments and school boards to unambiguously set their own firearms policies. "Gun-free zones are ineffective and make our schools less safe. Since 1950, 94% of mass public shootings have occurred in places where citizens are banned from having guns," Rep. Thomas Massie bleated. "Banks, churches, sports stadiums, and many of my colleagues in Congress are protected with firearms. Yet children inside the classroom are too frequently left vulnerable." Another gun advocate sniveled: "Instead of protecting' our kids with a tin sign, let's defend them with something that makes a difference: a good guy with a gun."

Congressman Massie also supports the "National Constitutional [Firearm] Carry Act." The CDC informs: "Firearm injuries and deaths continue to be a significant public health problem in the US. In 2022, there were more than 48,000 firearm-related deaths in the US. That's about 132 people dying from a firearm-related injury each day. More than half of firearm-related deaths were suicides and more than four out of every ten were firearm homicides." The US underwent 57 times as many school shootings as the other major industrialized nations combined. This year Dummkopf Trumpf loosened federal firearm restrictions and the "Big Beautiful Bill" eased regulations on firearm silencers and some rifles and shotguns. ... and similar to the Big Beautiful Bill, will the GOP want to change the name are some future point?

Zones with guns in them are ineffective.

Yet another idiot that thionks every "good guy with a gun" shoots as accurately as Rambo or John McClane from "Die Hard."

Let me posit this: have you ever seen or seen videos of shoot-outs with real cops? Bullets everywhere, accuracy rate LOW. Now imagine that in a school setting. If you have children of your own in school RIGHT NOIW (I do), the thought makes you physically sick.

But please! Let's allow any teacher of administrator with NO TRAINING to carry and encourage them to use weapons in schools. A great idea. Let's allow people to come into schools at any times with weapons. What could possibly happen?

Republicans are out of their minds with hatred for Liberals and that all this insane bill is for is to inflame liberals who don't want children murdered by Gun Nut lunatics. Now if they pass this lunacy they own any school shootings in their state!
After they pass

You're right Clownshack, this was once a great nation. Back when we kept the looney's in mental asylum's where they belonged. Now we tell them they can be transbender and they massacre kids at church. Good times watching the downfall amirite?

Something like 96 percent of the time it's rwing white nationalists that perform such violent acts in this country.... you know, from your trailer park.

Of course, --------- will take the extreme minority and act like it's the norm to avoid the uncomfortable truth of the matter.

Then again, he's not really intellectually adept anyway, so that's not surprising.

I question how much experience he has with firearms that he thinks teachers acting out of desperate need with handguns are going to fair well against a shooter with the initiative and a long gun.

#21 | Posted by jpw at 2025-09-02 09:58 AM | Reply

Here in Missouri our murder rate has nearly doubled since the state legislature passed conceal carry despite the measure having failed when it was put to statewide vote.
More guns appears to only have exacerbated the problem because a good guy with a guy is by and large a myth.

We are going to have those Epstein files, unless Trump destroys them utterly.

When we do, you're going to see the definition of criminal insanity. It will be found under "T" for Trump.

No Zed, both of you have openly called for the assassination of The President. That is not a thought a normal person would have. So either you didn't actually mean those things (in which case you might want to evaluate the things you say online). Or you did actually mean them which defaults back to you wouldn't be a normal person and would need psychological help most likely in an institution for those types of disturbed thoughts.

Zed also most likely owns guns, which if we are talking about getting the crazies prohibited from gun purchases ... Who here will be taking them away from him?

Who defunded and closed the state institutions? Who always cuts social safety net funding? Who JUST cut mental health support? Who made it easier for nutjobs to get guns in his first term? Who is taking more money from poor suffering people so the rich can have tax cuts?

You want to fix the mental health crisis? Stop voting for the party that always makes it worse.
