NPR is calling the Mamdani-backed candidates "far left" which I guess is shorthand for "would like to give healthcare to their constituents somewhat"

@#1 ... "put working people first -- not billionaires." ...

Did Pres Trump, with the staffing of his administration with billionaires and significant tax cuts for billionaires, forget about the working people who put him in office?

"forget about the working people who put him in office?"

Of course he did. They were his usfull idiots. Donald Trump is a classic con artist. He'll convince all the MAGAS that he's fighting for your rights; but It's all about him.

I always wonder who MSG thinks he's impressing by posting memes.

He truly exemplifies Trump's poorly educated voter.

"would like to give healthcare to their constituents somewhat"
~ NPR

I always like it when American politicians say "give" to constituents.

California is raising taxes like gangbusters to keep its illegal immigrants in the healthcare they deserve. Its never "taxpayers give illegal immigrants benefits" .. no no I have never seen that, its always Gavin or Mamdani .... its hilarious how Lumpers eat it up.

Regarding wealth inequality, it will just make it worse. Makers will leave NYC, leave NY and go places where they aren't as restricted. It won't happen immediately but just like making stealing < $1000 caused SFO to go downhill, it will take time for the damage to appear, but it will appear.

Same issue with Trump. Its funny how you can see it with Trump but not Mamdani. Different sides of the same coin.

Yeah, you cannot make up that level of such apparent proud ignorance.

Makers will leave NYC

OSTED BY ONEIRONAUT

Who are you, John Galt?

All you need to created another "Maker" is to take that guy's money away and give it to someone else.

Better, much better, people are likely to be found.

I promise you.

It's not much of a plan.

They support legislation from the US Senate that adds additional taxes onto wealthy individuals in different ways but the candidates they defeated supported it as well. So it's not like taking that position mattered anyway.

32 hour work week? That's probably the most interesting part of anything in the article. Not sure how that can be implemented but like with anything...you have to start somewhere.

But this is where a liberal has to be honest with themselves. Are they truly going to fight to implement such a thing or is it just an easy lie to tell to get votes but then won't really have to lift a finger to implement?

Wealth inequality in NYC is certainly not a new thing. It goes back more than a century.

Negotiation, compromise, etc........that's how this will go.

It's a plan. And beats the hell out of the Republicans plan for the Fleecing of America.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has ALREADY implemented several of his major campaign promises, most notably approving a rent freeze for over one million stabilized apartments. His administration has also expanded free childcare, fixed 100,000 potholes, signed executive orders to protect immigrants, and created city-run grocery stores.

What was the Republican Plan again? Oh yeah. Project 2025 and the destruction of Americas democratic institutions and lining the pockets of the Trumpy crime family and their sycophantic supporters with a $1.7 billion dollar slush fund.

In the New York State Assembly? Not sure that matters much as the Democrats have a supermajority.

That's my only point. It's not a criticism of any of these folks. It's just that democrats have a lot of power in NY and have had it for some time.

It's not like Mamdani and other progressives just recently seized power away from the republican party.

I'm guessing this is shift-workers only. I can't imagine that high-demand workers like doctors, nurses, airline pilots, etc, would be limited to 32 hours per week.

"would be limited to 32 hours per week"

I don't believe 32 hours is a hard "limit".

If they have the work available and choose to work longer then that's called "overtime".

That's true. Since around 2002. That's tends to make a party complacent. But Mamdami is obviously a different kind of Democrat. Shaking up the party. Trying to and actually helping people. It was obviously needed. Showing the way for other democrats.

"If they have the work available and choose to work longer then that's called "overtime"."

OK, but even that has an effect on the unit cost structure. I'm a salary guy, so I don't know how it works, but it used to be that overtime was 150% of hourly rate. What does that do for labor costs, particularly with in-demand professionals?

For doctors and nurses, it would seem like it would only drive up the cost of healthcare. And it's not like you can easily recruit more of either. Same with airline pilots.

Do you think Mamdani's proposed and/or implemented policies are hurting some while helping others, or is it helping all with a neutral effect?

To do what? Win in the primaries and lose in the general?
