"Mission Accomplished!" -Trump
"The Trump administration disband a specialized White House pandemic preparedness team two years before the COVID-19 outbreak. In May 2018, then - National Security Advisor John Bolton restructured the National Security Council (NSC) and dissolved the Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense."
Remember how proud Trump was to have his signature on the check?
"In April 2020, President Donald Trump's name was printed on millions of government - issued COVID-19 stimulus checks. Instead of a legal signature, which was barred by law and protocol, his name - "President Donald J. Trump" - appeared on the left side in the memo section of the physical paper checks."

Operation Warp Speed was perhaps the one good thing Trump did.
He should have adamant his supporters get it.
Instead he suggested hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, bleach and bright lights.
Also, that it would simply go away in warm weather.

As for Harris:
During the 2020 Vice Presidential Debate, Harris stated, "If the public health professionals, if the doctors, if Dr. Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, I'll be the first in line to take it, absolutely. But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I'm not taking it".

Also, here is what the SDS was: AI Overview SDS stands for Students for a Democratic Society. It was a major American student activist organization during the 1960s and a primary representation of the political "New Left.
AI Overview The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) began as a nonviolent, reform-minded campus group in 1960. However, as the Vietnam War escalated, the national organization grew increasingly militant. By 1969, internal fracturing led a radical faction called the Weathermen to split off and commit acts of domestic terrorism.

It is not "smart budgeting."
Not paying the rent so your family can eat?
Is that what you call "smart budgeting?"
What "smart budgeting" actually is --- is having an income that is equal or greater than your expenses.
So, what then happens if inflation is outpacing your wage increases, to the point of you not having enough money to put food on the table for your family...
What is your solution?
How will "smart budgeting" solve that gap between income and expenses?

The stock market does not represent the economy.
And the economy does not represent the stack market.
While there may be some ties between the two, those ties are not as solid as many (most) think.
For example, ...
The economy is here and now.
The stock market tries to bet upon what the future might be, usually 6-12 months from the present.

The Port Huron Statement was a broad critique of the political and social system of the United States for failing to achieve international peace and economic justice. In foreign policy, the statement took issue with the American government's handling of the Cold War, both the existential threat of nuclear war, and the actual arms race. In domestic matters, it criticized racial discrimination, economic inequality, big businesses, trade unions, and political parties. In addition to its critique and analysis of the American system, the statement also suggested a series of reforms: it proclaimed a need to reshape into two genuine political parties to attain greater democracy, for stronger power for individuals through citizen's lobbies, for more substantial involvement by workers in business management, and for an enlarged public sector with increased government welfare, including a "program against poverty." The document provided ideas of what and how to work for and to improve, and also advocated nonviolent civil disobedience as the means by which student youth could bring forth the concept of "participatory democracy."

1962 turmoil??
We had a young hip president
we had a minimum wage that was mucho better than today when adjusted for inflation
we had 91% marginal tax rate on the highest income
Vietnam hadn't taken off yet.
decades before Citizens United
Civil rights were heating up....
We had the Cold War of course.....not sure what the SDS crowd wanted as a solution to that challenge.

I didn't know what SDS meant either.
Not to worry... it's not relevant. MST said it was a typo and he meant DSA.

How long do you think we can protect our auto manufacturers from China and the world? They have already collapsed once. And we had to bail them out /subsidize them already. Are we to always subsidize them?
If all tariffs were removed (slowly if need be) to allow for a more fair market competition would not those (Toyota etc) prices come down too? Are auto industries always to be given some kind of guarantee by our government that they will always be supported and must always succeed? No matter how badly they perform in the market? That seems a bit socialistic to me.

Nope.
While it is not true socialism, it is "socialism for the rich".
I.E. "a bit socialist".
The state uses taxpayer money or central bank power to interfere in the market.
Private companies keep their profits during good times, but force the public to absorb their losses during a crisis.
Aid goes to well-connected corporate elites rather than ordinary citizens.
Crony Capitalism
Or
"A bit socialist."

I don't remember much from those classes but we've assisted industries burdened by unfair trade practices (unfair meaning they were losing)...which means we will consider the larger picture.
How many jobs are attached the failure of the domestic auto industry?
Same with any industry (banking in 2008) and the ripple effects of a failure.

The rich don't work the lines assembling cars.
I didn't see you address an important topic. Given the material inputs are the same, and there's not that much labor difference, why are the Chinese cars so cheap compared to every other automaker on the planet? You know the answer, and you know it's why the tariffs are bipartisan.

Because the Chinese subsidizes their industries.
And because we cannot negotiate with them for a reasonable compromise.
But a %100 tariff? Yeah. Thats just fear.
Americans have always been concerned about competing on an equal playing field. But a %100 tariff? Thats not even pretending to compete.

Here a novel idea (that I don't expect you to agree with):
How about we "subsidize" the people who buy those cars and those houses.
Instead of the already wealthy CEOs who failed their companies?

Damn, you didn't know the answer. Not a single geo political concern, just faux economic concerns.

"Chinese electric cars cost 25-35% less than Western EVs because they control battery production"the largest cost component"while Western brands buy batteries from suppliers."
Slightly more nuanced take, "Chinese vehicle pricing is the result of a complex interplay of market dynamics, production efficiencies, and strategic government support"
