Iran on Saturday launched attacks against Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces, escalating long-standing tensions between the two nations that have the potential to trigger a regional war. Strains between Iran and Israel have been heating up since the start of the war in Gaza in October, and especially over the past several weeks after Iran accused Israel of perpetrating an attack on its consulate in Damascus on April 1. Iranian leaders, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, pledged to retaliate against Israel for the Damascus strike and Israel, in turn, threatened a counterattack of its own. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the Damascus attack.

Americans split on continuing military aid to Israel (March 2024)

... Meanwhile, Reuters/Ipsos polling finds a plurality say they trust neither Biden nor Trump to broker peace in the Middle East ...
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll finds that Americans are split on whether the U.S. should continue providing military aid to Israel. Nearly half (47%) of Americans say they would be more likely to support a 2024 presidential candidate who continues to support Israel, while 48% say they would be less likely to support a candidate who does so. These sentiments, however, vary by political affiliation. While at least half of Democrats (56%) and independents (51%) say that continuing to give military aid to Israel would make them less likely to support a presidential candidate, most Republicans (62%) say doing so would make them more likely to support a presidential candidate. ...

Iran attacks Israel: IDF warns that threat is ongoing, interceptions continue
www.jpost.com
... Ten-year-old girl from Bedouin village seriously wounded in Iranian attack. US, Israel, UK, Jordan intercept Iranian projectiles.
Sirens blared across Israel on Saturday night as hundreds of drones and missiles launched from Iran reached Israel. Drones and missiles were also reportedly launched from Yemen and other countries around the region.
A ten-year-old girl from a Bedouin village near Arad was seriously wounded by the Iranian attack, according to Magen David Adom. Minor damage was caused to infrastructure at an IDF base in southern Israel during the attack as well, according to IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari.
At 3:00 a.m., IDF Chief Spokesman Daniel Hagari said that Iran had launched a large-scale massive swarm of over 200 killer drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles toward Israel. "Together [with our partners], we are operating at this very moment. So far, we have intercepted a vast majority of missiles, attack drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles outside of Israel's border," he said.
Hagari stressed that the Iranian attack was not over yet. Almost all interceptions have been by aircraft, David's Sling, or the Arrow missile systems. The Iron Dome, which defends well against Hamas and Hezbollah's simple rockets, is less relevant for drones and fancier long range missiles. ...

Permanent Mission of I.R.Iran to UN, NY
@Iran_UN
Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defense, Iran's military action was in response to the Zionist regime's aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus. The matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran's response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the U.S. MUST STAY AWAY!

Iran launches retaliatory attack on Israel that risks sparking regional war
www.nbcnews.com
... Top U.S. officials are concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could quickly respond to Iran's attack without thinking through the potential fallout.
ran launched a retaliatory attack against Israel on Saturday that risks sparking a regional conflict involving U.S. military forces. The operation, which Israeli officials said included more than 200 missile and drones, marked the first time that Iran has launched a direct military attack on the Jewish state.
Several hours after the Iranian operation began, U.S. officials said that American forces in the region had shot down several Iranian drones and were attempting to shoot down Iranian missiles as well.
"U.S. forces in the region continue to shoot down Iranian-launched drones targeting Israel," a U.S. official told NBC News. "Our forces remain postured to provide additional defensive support and to protect U.S. forces operating in the region." ...
Something nobody wants unless they're already kinda simple and easily led to be the tools of others.
[...] Nobody wants WWIII so why push it to the brink? I don't understand. What are they fighting for? Or about? Why all the fear? The mistrust?
I apologize for the length of my response, but you asked so I'm going to try to answer.
Jews have experienced varying levels of community acceptance, ranging from tolerance to outright genocide, during their 3,000 years of existence. Only today has their population in absolute numbers risen to what it was before the Holocaust, when 60% of all European Jews were exterminated. As a percent of world population, their numbers aren't even close and they now constitute only about 0.2%.
Jews have learned, repeatedly, that they are hated. Even if not hated at a particular moment in time (like right after the horrors of the concentration camps were revealed at the end WWII), they know that hatred will return, like we see today in the United States amongst some of the Democratic base and on this site. In the UK, where they are outnumbered by Muslims at about 15 to 1, 46% of Muslims sympathize with Hamas, so the writing is on the wall for the Jews, as usual.
Israel is the Jews' last stand, because they have learned that they cannot trust in anyone except themselves. I can't say that they're wrong and I can't really begrudge them for claiming 0.13% of the world's land for that purpose. Sucks for those others who claim that land as their own, but that's the way the cookie crumbles, both in the Middle East and in our own nation built on land we have taken from others.
Where is all the hate coming from? This is the 21st Century, not the Dark Ages. #117 | Posted by Twinpac
Israel is being attacked by Iran which, like pretty much the rest of the Muslim nations in that part of the world, has banished almost all Jews. Iran stones people to death for witchcraft, forbids women from basic autonomy like leaving the country without permission, and whip women in the streets. Sounds like the Dark Ages to me.
How do you justify one nation killing 10s of thousands of children and using famine as a weapon of war? Please be specific. #134 | Posted by truthhurts
Ignoring your specific numbers, you can read up on the concepts if you want:
Civilian casualty ratio
Human shield
If you don't like Hamas hiding behind civilians, you should write them a strongly-worded letter. And maybe tell the Palestinians to stop supporting them.
Israel? Israel will do what it needs to do to protect itself.
I can believe that. What's never been explained is what did Netanyahu do to make Hamas turn on the hand that was feeding them? #196 | Posted by Twinpac
"Why Hamas Tried to Sabotage Arab-Israeli Peace Prospects With a Massive Unprovoked Attack [...] by all accounts, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United States were inching closer towards a transformative three-way deal, which would have seen Israel and Saudi formally recognize each other within a security, defense, and economic partnership with the U.S. [...] Iran's biggest rival in the region is Saudi Arabia with military, diplomatic, cultural, and religious hostilities dividing them. The prospect of Saudi recognition of Israeli sovereignty after 75 years of statehood would have undercut Iran's voice in the Islamic world while uniting two of Iran's foes. Iran has always been Hamas' single largest sponsor, providing 70% of the financing for Hamas including upwards of $100 million in military aid every year in addition to military training and humanitarian assistance. It is highly unlikely that Hamas' invasion of Israel could have happened without at least tacit support from Iran, whose regime was celebrating the attacks on Israel openly on Saturday with impromptu fireworks and festivals. As Iranian-American author-journalist Roya Hakakian noted to us, "Iran needed this conflict very badly."

So Iran attacked Israel for attempting to make peace with its neighbors. And the bleeding heart westerners are falling for Iran and Hamas's efforts to sabotage that peace process.
Just for future reference, here is an article that explains what Iran was up against when the launched their air attack on Israel.
What in the world were they thinking?
theintercept.com ~ Israeli conflict spread to 16 nations.
In case you don't want to read the article, here's an excerpt:
While the world has been focused on " and the Pentagon has been stressing " the comings and goings of aircraft carriers and fighter jets to serve as a "deterrent" against Iran, the U.S. has quietly built a network of air defenses to fight its regional war. "At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week," President Joe Biden said in a statement Saturday. "Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles."
As part of that network, Army long-range Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense surface-to-air missile batteries have been deployed in Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and at the secretive Site 512 base in Israel. These assets " plus American aircraft based in Kuwait, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia " are knitted together in order to communicate and cooperate with each other to provide a dome over Israel (and its own regional bases). The United Kingdom is also intimately tied into the regional war network, while additional countries such as Bahrain have purchased Patriot missiles to be part of the network.
