Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

As soon as the raging waters receded on July 4 in Central Texas, Mike Richards led a group of volunteers to his property along the Guadalupe River to search for survivors. Instead, they found corpses, 10 of them, including a man that appeared to have bled to death as he waited for help. Mr. Richards, 67, has been waiting for help ever since, from federal, state or local officials who could aid in the search, pitch in money for those who need it or help clear land that, he said, "still looks like a bomb went off." "Not a damned penny came through this gate from my taxpaying dollars, he said on Tuesday as he looked at the twisted trees and piles of debris that still litter his property and beyond. "And I don't understand why."

abcnews.go.com

... Texas lawmakers gathered this week for a special legislative session to discuss emergency procedures and early warning systems following the deadly July 4 flash floods.

Gov. Greg Abbott called the special session in the wake of the flooding, which killed more than 130 people in Hill Country.

"We must ensure better preparation in the future," Abbott said in a statement. ...

So, Texas Republicans seemed to have turned the goal of a special Legislative session from dealing with floods to how to negate the votes of Democrats.

Priorities matter.

You don't know why?? It's quite simple actually. You don't matter to them. To put it bluntly.

Because you have a sociopathic president in charge of a sociopathic political movement.

Oh, you understand why perfectly. Time to get honest.

"the twisted trees and piles of debris that still litter his property and beyond"

I'm afraid that you're going to have to rely upon natural processes to take care of that stuff for you as long as Trump/MAGA is in charge.

That means you'll be looking at a majority of that debris for the rest of your natural life.

Your kids, too.

"Not a damned penny came through this gate from my taxpaying dollars"

The days that your taxes were insurance against things like this are over.
Welcome to a new era of government where your taxes subsidize the wealthiest of the wealthiest!
You are thrown scraps, if you are lucky.
Your suffering will build character and resilience! Independence!
The Government is here to direct your resentment directly at the brown, black, gay, lesbian, trans - you know - "them" - the "real" cause of all your problems!

"And I don't understand why."

I'm betting his voting history would provide a significant explanation as to why...

I think we're going to have more and more instances like this where Trumpers show themselves to be in the lower 50th percentile of the IQ curve.

They honestly thought their vote for cutting spending and gutting programs wasn't going to touch their needs, just those of "others."

Now that the rude awakening is hitting them, all they can do is sit there and blink dumbfoundedly, trying to process the fact that they are just as disposable as the rest of us in the eyes of the people they voted for.

You need to send the check directly to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Rookie mistake.

For whatever reason Trump picked up the populist vote. I have no idea how he managed to convince anyone that he was a man of the people but there it is.

My one hope is that perhaps things will be so blatant under him that the populist might join the progressives against the influence of big money. It's a slim hope, but when deporting thousands of their neighbors, cutting off all aid even their own, and persecuting LGBTQIA+ people doesn't improve their lives, maybe they will realize the real issue.

He's not a man of the people.
He's a man of the white men.

#14 I wish I could agree.

MAGA is gone. They'll be convinced the people they should be joining forces with are to blame for the problems they themselves have created.

Thats what we're unfortunately already seeing.

TX Republicans tied passing any flood relief funding to passing their Redistricting Bill... which should tell Texans what inhuman monsters they are.

Are the 10 corpses still there, if not then more than a "damn penny" came through the gate just not the penny you wanted and when.

There's a couple different ways to get around the paywall, including turning off your browser's java script.

There's also the Internet Archive.

Here's a direct link to the article that you can access: archive.is
